    Nice video! I have by now several times encountered the idea that limiting yourself is actually good for creative work.
    Oh and technically floppies probably can be used with some sort of reader, adapters converting to digital storage for export purposes. At least for backing up, just in case.
    P.S. As I default to 2x speed, this was an interesting piece to listen to - though it obviously sounds seriously different to the normal speed (I started 2x and switched to 1x around mid-track)

    How do you get your samples onto the sampler? I am looking to avoid chopping and creating key groups using the sampler’s interface as it’s a bit too much of a hassle for me and the novelty wore off haha. I recently discovered a way of extracting samples from the sampler, loading them into Renoise, defining the key groups in Renoise, then flashing the key groups + samples back to the sampler with Akaiutil and Awave. Very excited to try this method. Perhaps you’re also interested in trying it out, though your productions are nice and simple so you may not need complicate it this much. Also of course one would need either ZuluSCSI or GotekUSB etc. Here I see you are rocking the OG floppy disks :)

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  22 дня назад +1

      I am simply sampling them via line in and then chopping and creating keygroups in the sampler menu. I am used to this, and it's pretty fast and intuitive for me :)

    btw, would love to return to cubase vst 32/24 to keep it minimal as well...would be amazing if there would be a way to have it on a new computer as I need my midi usb 3.0 interface and soundcard connected. While I am oldschool too, I am not ready to drop all that and get an old PC from the 90s with an old mouse and old soundcard/midi interface for all my gear. Kudos to you!

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  Год назад +1

      I am actually using an i7 intel with 64bit Windows 10, and I am surprised my old 32bit cubase works on it. The only downside is, if you are willing to use it as a proper DAW, it won't run newest 64bit plugins. But since I mainly use it as a MIDI sequencer, this is not an issue for me.

    • @AnalogFlava
      @AnalogFlava Год назад

      @@IJOSoundVideo wow for real?? How did you even install it 😅 I might be willing to get a windows laptop just for that since I would only be using it to sequence like in the old days. I don't suppose it would run on a newer mac though?

      That's just a tambourine from the Roland JV 1080. I mostly write in 16th, but sometimes to get some drilly vibes I do 32, 64s or even 128ths.

    Cool! Keli klausimai, jei galima :) kadangi sie sampleriai dazniausiai turi gana padoru kieki ram'o (na, arba galima isideti daugiau), ar gerai suprantu, kad norint perkelti daugiau nei 1.44MB samplu, tu tiesiog krauni juos is flopiku i ram'a, ane? Kas ivyksta su sampleriu jei tarkime ikrovei kokius 5 MB samplu, ir isjungei sampleri, ar vel reiketu disketes kaisalioti, ar jis prisimena, kad kazkas ram'e guli?

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  Год назад +1

      Labas. Taip, jeigu sampleryje instaliuoti, sakykime, 8 Mb RAM, kaip pavyzdys, ir jį visą užpildai, tada tam reikia kokių 6 diskečių. Išjungus ir vėl įjungus, reikia iš visų diskečių perksikelti į samplerį. Alternatyva yra SCSI iomega zip drive, kurie talpina iki 100Mb informacijos, ir jie veikia labai greitai. Arba koks Gotek USB vietoj diskečių, bet jie irgi turi particijas po 1.44 Mb. Bet aš, iš esmės, naudoju vienam kartui disketės, nes dažniausiai padarau gabalą vienu prisėdimu, o viską išsisaugau tik tam kartui, jeigu netyčia kažkas nutiktų. Pakui formatuoju naujam gabalui.

    Nice! How do you manage to find the correct key of the 808 bass? I've often tried using the 808 but usually go back to the Juno as I find it really difficult to mix the 808 bass, it always sounds 'off' in the mix. Wondered if there was a process you follow? Great video as always!

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  Год назад +1

      Hey. In most cases there's very little harmonies in jungle, so I usually play random notes, really, it's more about the groove. But if there are harmonies and melodies, then I try and find the right notes in upper octaves, and then play my 808 notes in lower notes. I have a good ear for that :D If it sounds off, it might need some tuning, because it is in fact a kick, with some random tuning, but I never tune my 808s, especially in lower registry, it doesn't really sound too much off to me.

    • @sinewaves1631
      @sinewaves1631 Год назад

      Could always just use a tuner if you need to? But I agree I usually find you can just find the notes by ear. Also find an 808 where you can do that and then use it every time..

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  Год назад

      @@sinewaves1631 Very true. I, in fact, only use 3 different 808 basses on all my tracks, I just know they always work. Not like all 3 in one track, but a bank of only 3 basses.

    • @sinewaves1631
      @sinewaves1631 Год назад +1

      @@IJOSoundVideo yeah I heard an interview where someone was like ‘a band always uses the same guitar/drums/bass so why do you have to change all of them for every tune. Then you start to realise a lot of successful producers don’t….

    • @IJOSoundVideo
      @IJOSoundVideo  Год назад

      @@sinewaves1631 oh yeah.. i used to use new sounds in every new track... but with the years, i sort of built my own "sample" collection that i keep using over and over again, as I find the combination of these sounds sound good, and all i do, is i write different melodies and arrangements, same like a real band would do. You add variety using effects and different EQs :D

      Hey ! I don't know, really anything, depends on what you're going for. I knew exactly what i wanted so I got exactly what i needed :D Akai S1000 and not the s3000xl even though it's cheaper and easier to get, it doesn't have the kind of sound i love, but akai s1000 does, as s950 does. Also a mixing desk, a mackie or a soundcrafdt at least 8 channels. And at least 1 fx unit, most popular from alesis. And any DAW that can send and receive MIDI. And lots of practice and patience :D
