Yea every hitter when they are on the on deck circle they are making sure that their mechanics are right where they need to be. Our coach use to always tell us to watch that pitcher that's warming up because what hitters are doing when they are on the on deck circle is most hitters are trying to get their timing down. See I'm 45 now and out of shape now but I started playing baseball at the age of 5 and during my youth years I played for coaches that played pro or college and so my knowledge of the game is rich. So alot of these mechanics and hitting they teach you at a young age you know how to stay balanced throughout the swing and keeping your head down and all types of hitting techniques. But to this very day even though I don't play anymore I can do some of these drills without a bat in my hand or a ball in my hand
How do you rotate the lower body correctly? Can you please make another video on how you want to think about rotating the hips. Such as; take the backhip to the front hip and don't move the front hip forward, How far the hips should do the rotating move before the torso rotates etc. I just need a definite answer on how i should think about it.
I don’t think there is a definite answer. It depends on your body, your mobility and your quickness. If you look at some of Matt’s other videos, he pretty much moves his hips and torso in tandem, slightly lifting his front hip and shoulder, while slightly dipping his back hip and shoulder, rotating them together to get the bat in the zone quickly, efficiently and on plane. If you watch a slow mo of Mookie Betts on the other hand, he has significant hip to shoulder separation like pitchers do, so he can really whip the bat through at the end. I know that if it was me, I wouldn’t have the mobility or quickness to do it Mookies way, but I think it really depends on how your body moves best. Just make sure you get the bat in the zone and move it through the zone in a physically strong body position (don’t leak energy) but there are different ways to do that.
@@jesswillans3222 Its not gonna matter for a little bit cause i pulled something in my shoulder anyway :( Any tips on what to do with a pulled muscle in the shoulder Area.
I've started using the CamWood one-handed training bat. It's suppose to help with swing path and in the end also increase exit velo and power. After a couple weeks using it as part of my tee work I do notice much better swing path. I am now going to do what JD does in the on deck circle to freshen that muscle memory! I hope the exit velo increase comes soon though.. I started the season at 180lbs and had 79mph wood exit velo, now I am down to 160lbs but still at 79mph..
Another great breakdown! His muscle memory is on point...he instinctively "swung" the same way repeatedly without even thinking.
Thank you
Palm up follow up
Excellent video Matt, you really break it down as to how the pro do it . Thanks as always
Great Break Down!!
