So, those goggles and that little shield were supposed to protect them from a laser that went through a wall?

I used to hate this movie but over the decades I love it more. Since I got an Associate Degree in software program now I really love it.

I asked ChatGPT is this was possible or just mumbo jumbo. The result is the most impressive thing I've ever seen come out of an AI. It's answer below.
Yes, synthesizing excited bromine in an argon matrix to create a solid-state chemical laser is theoretically possible. The concept involves trapping excited bromine atoms or molecules in an argon matrix at low temperatures, which could preserve their excited states. When an external field is applied, it could couple to a higher energy state that subsequently decays radiatively to the ground state, emitting light in the process.
Here’s a general outline of how this could work:
    1. **Matrix Isolation:** Bromine is excited and then trapped in a solid argon matrix. The low temperature of the matrix helps stabilize the excited states and prevents rapid decay.
    2. **Field Application:** Applying an external field could perturb the energy states of the bromine atoms/molecules, inducing transitions that are radiatively coupled to the ground state.
    3. **Emission:** As the excited bromine decays to the ground state, it emits radiation, potentially in the visible range (around 600 nm as you suggested).
    4. **Energy Output:** Extracting 1 mJ per liter would depend on the efficiency of the process and the concentration of the excited species. This figure is feasible but would require precise control over the experimental conditions.
This approach leverages principles similar to those in gas-phase chemical lasers but adapts them to a solid-state environment. The main challenges would include ensuring effective excitation, maintaining stability of the excited states in the matrix, and optimizing the coupling and emission processes.

Anyone else notice the look of Knight when Hathaway tells him he graduates and gets the job - it is almost childlike to me in his receiving approval from a boss. The same boss he spends most of the movie not seeming to care about.
