This film of yours is incredible!! I was a visitor twice (October 27th, 2022 and January 11th, 2023) I started volunteering here on January 25th, 2023 I have never stopped volunteering here. This railroad museum's transformation is impressive. I played the major Gandy Dancer role about tearing down the old 2-foot gauge amusement railroad, then rebuilt the track with 700+ feet of expanded track. The amusement locomotive and three cars each are now fully restored. The 1905 NYC wooden caboose has been moved from the East entrance to be partners with the last-surviving 1978 Conrail bay window caboose. Countless changes to be told, I recommend you seeing for yourself!! Such a wonderful railroad museum, that is for sure!! Next time you come to visit, I am happy to give you a tour!! Find me wearing neon colors; most-likely wearing my neon pink safety vest. Oh, and I model N scale too!!
I noticed the Rail Crane says Harmon like croton Harmon which is where my grandpa worked for the NYC and then conrail and multiple other railroads till his death
It’s pathetic that a GG1 was given to this museum! Look at the state it is in. It ought to be given to a museum more deserving. They were beautiful engines in maroon or in Brunswick green with pinstripping.
as much as i ran arcoss u.s. 20 in a truck to interstate 94 to chicago,i didnt know this was there.do you know where it is in elkhart indaiana ,i spelled that wrong, thanks
I don’t mean to start up a Pennsy vs NYC debate on here, but with both railroads being dominant players in North American railroading, why does the Pennsy have such a good preservation program, and the NYC doesn’t? I want to see better preserved locomotives and a larger variety. Heck, I think the Reading Railroad has a better variety in its museum than the NYC does!
??? the railroad museum in PA is operated by the State with State funding, neither RR exists as a corporate entity and both are operated by other railroads. The CSX (B&O) has a really nice museum in Baltimore. Parts of the Reading system were taken over by a short line operator that does excursions with steam engines, I think this is intended to be a for profit operation. The Steamtown Museum in Scranton is operated as a National Park, it has a very interesting display.
Thank you for posting this. I have an HO scale model railroad. I was born in Upper Manhattan (Hudson Hgts) on May 3rd, 1954 In 1957 my parents took a train from New York City to Cleveland, Ohio. The New York Central was my favorite railroad. I currently have several New York Central HO scale locomotives. I'm in Canton, Ohio and if I ever get the chance I will go to visit National New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart, IN

I love New York Central i wish 5406 is steamed again Built by Lima in 1929 and Streamline By Alco in 1938.

This some amazing train history especially NYC
Nice video of Lionel train layout. I'm going to visit sometime.
why a GG1 electric? that is strictly a PRR loco. NYC electrification was third rail DC, PRR was overhead AC, the two don't mix.

It's interesting that your lead photo was of a Pennsylvania GG1 instead of a New York Central loco.

Because Pearlman scrapped anything that moved via a wheel.
Boy, they really need to so some cosmetic work on the rolling stock in their yard. Nice collection !
I agree. Unfortunately, like most places they probably lack the help needed to keep the rolling stock looking decent.
