Rodarte Jr. was sentenced to 40 years in prison after reaching a plea agreement in March 2021, pleading guilty to second-degree murder in exchange for dropping two other related charges.

      There's a much better video about this case and interrogation on the channel JCS Criminal Psychology (although his actual confession isn't recorded so it's not shown on that channel either...his little breakdown after the confession is captured though. It's something.) Amazing channel...good quality, accurate, educational, entertaining, etc.

      As a psychiatrist we all are trained to pretend we are not
      Shocked by anything we hear because if we acted like that most suspects wouldn’t open up to us. We give compliments to the person, like we know had a reason or we know your not a monster.
      But honestly after your around people like this so long you kind of do get DeSensitized to it. Don’t get me wrong you still feel bad you still have empathy but after a while but nothing much shocks you.

      But should that be the first reaction to a suspect interrogation like this? How the perpetrator should have protected himself? Shouldn't it more be horror at the crime committed and gratitude that the person responsible was discovered?

      I mean here he would get 16 years and able to be released after 8 if he behaves properly. He seems like the type that will die within the 40 years prison. So he'll die before he comes out anyway, 40 years or 400. Same outcome

      @@carrieanncancino5118 It's important to give all prisoners the possibility of parole. It's vital to controlling behavior in prison. Even guys like Paul Bernardo will believe they can get parole and apply despite exactly zero chance of ever getting out. It keeps them in line.

    I really need to stop watching these.. I’m slowly self inflicting fear of going out, meeting people and dating. These people seem so normal it freaks me out. The worse part is seeing how our justice system fails us terribly. A person capable of murdering someone should never see light of day no excuses or a pedofile either. I’ve seen some case where their background history is soooooo long it’s crazy the system decided to let them lose and of course they commit an even worse crime. Just my thoughts.

      @@junedeike6144 It’s really scary out there. Humans are the only species that have this obsession with attachment. (Aside from a few animals that mate for life) I don’t understand how they can’t just walk away from a toxic or a relationship where you’re not happy just for the purpose of saying you’re with someone. I rather be by myself. And I’m much happier than more than half the couples out there. Lol stay blessed and safe.

    One thing that stands out to me watching quite a few of these police interrogations is that the suspects treat it like they are in a psychologists therapy session. Spilling all kinds of details of his petty little situational problem. The police just want to get him admit what happened to savanna it’s not a mental health council sessions

      They put a warning on cigarette packs, did not stop anyone. People know heroin is a life altering drug that will kill you either very slowly or right away,, it will have you hanging around other scumbags, some of whom are dangerous. But still there are More addicts every day. This guy came with a warning, he was a drug using loser. He had two girlfriends. He lost them both due to drugs, which led to him cheating on the first gal. There were plenty of warning signs. They didn't help at all...

    The female detective is not very good at her job. What drives me nuts is how emotional and how hysterical she starts getting. I mean, it is almost embarrassing. I wish she was not involved in the interrogation. I hope she does not interview people often because she is horrible at it. You cannot get that hysterical when interviewing people. The male detective was probably dying inside.

    That woman detective needs to develop another interview technique other than crying and screeching, my god, it was like watching just a random woman they pulled off the street. I hope she knows that you can use you're brain and interview techniques to get someone to confess. What an embarrassment to that police force she is. Nobody cares that you have a daughter the same age or you're crying. It's so cringey to watch. Funny how the male detective doesn't reduce himself to a blubbering mess!!!

      It was a deliberate use of the "reframing" and "ego-up" technique.
      "I know you're not a bad person."
      "I'm sure it was just an accident."
      "You're not a monster, but what do you think people will say when they find out you didnt help us when you had the chance?"
      The whole point is to get the guy to open the door and partially confess to something, and then use that to get the real confession. And the tactic worked because he does confess. You can find the full confession on RUclips.
      They were hoping this guy felt guilty for killing Savanah, so they were presenting an "opportunity" for some kind of redemption. In truth, they don't care about him at all, they just want the confession.

    These interrogators skills aren't great. They don't know the secret of staying quiet, like a prolonged pregnant pause once he clams up. He needed time to let it sink in that they had evidence. Instead they keep saying, "Where is she? Where is she? Tell us! Tell us!" I'm amazed he didn't say, "OK. I need a lawyer."

      That is my main complaint against some interrogators. The cops never stop suggesting scenarios which works in some cases, but long pauses also work.
