In this thrilling coming-of-age adventure, a troubled teen must face the dangers of the Alaskan wild, as well as her own past, in order to find her way home. Sent to stay with her uncle in Alaska while her mother is in treatment, 14-year-old Mackenzie (Ella Purnell) is forced to flee as her uncle’s attention turns threatening. Unable to reach her mother and afraid that the authorities will return her to her uncle, she embarks on a journey across miles of wilderness to find a way back home to Seattle.
As she plunges deeper into the Alaskan interior, a chance connection with gruff backpacker Bartlett (Bruce Greenwood) proves to be her only lifeline. Mackenzie shadows Bartlett across the rugged frontier, thwarting his efforts to cut her loose until he has no choice but to help her survive. Against the backdrop of a spectacular landscape, they discover the redemptive power of friendship.

This movie is well worth the watch ,some times in life people need a little help so don't be in to much of a hurry to come to a conclusion , and this movie demonstrates this , good acting good story and great location .

@@donnieallums4847 thanks for the polite reply❤️ that's a obscure theory, her mother was so awful.. I was very worried when Bart left mackenzie to go alone to Seattle, her mother was probably just gonna send her back to her uncle's, but it was a relief seeing the message Bart left in the map

@@subyss I know it’s just a movie, but I hate a pedophile whether it is a man or a woman because women also do some really bad things to children . I have really enjoyed our conversations about this movie . I have shared it with all of my family and friends. I met a really nice lady at the laundromat yesterday that was telling me about her ex husband that molested her daughter . She is now married to an Alabama congressman . She is studying for a degree in psychology to become a therapist for abused children . It just breaks my heart to hear her story . And the weird thing about it is she lives less than two hundred yards from me across a pasture . Stay safe and happy .☮️❤️

I'm actually hoping he's the 2nd husband of her mother who cannot visit her because of cancer treatments and died. Coincidentally he happens to live in the same bldg as her mom.

****spoiler ***The ending of the movie left too many questions behind . At the map he wrote there were an adress with the note . If he plans not to come back I Don t think that he wrote adress, yet why did he go to uncle? I like to imagine that talk for not disturbing her and let her go. Otherwise he will be the willon. He affraids of the police at the ferry station

@@surreygirl2075 i’m just curious what how it ended, when she opened the map and found his writing, said they are gonna meet there in Seattle. And what’s their status? Just that.
She did what she was taught/programmed to do. She did what she needed to do in order to survive. She got 'lucky' when she met 'Bart' (no, not that kind of lucky). Rarely, if ever, is real life so smooth. And, unfortunately, the beginning of her story is all too real and common. But no one wants to discuss that part. No one wants to dig deeper into the lives of drug addicts and sex workers to see what is underneath the cloaks of those behaviours that are shunned, stigmatized, punished and abhorred. Society would rather blame the individual. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the world were full of Barts..?
They reunite in Seattle and Bart adopts McKenzie, as her mother isn't ready to get clean. Maybe her mom dies. Maybe not. Maybe she goes to Juneau and kills her brother-in-law and spends the rest of her life in jail or a mental asylum. Maybe McKenzie's uncle kills himself, and her mom gets clean. Maybe her mom and Bart get married. Either way, McKenzie grows up and becomes a fine upstanding citizen. Bart is proud and happy. They are no longer lonely. They are lucky ❤

I had a 3 years relation with somebody totally lost.. A young lady. And helped her to quit her sad world... Learn again to read write... She succeeded to get an equivalence to the entry at university. Her life changed... She is, fine now. Lucky... But will never forget what she passed through earlier. I just hope she 'll be able to hang on the good path of life. What else?!
Well I lasted 14 minutes. Once I seen what uncle was doing I was done with this movie. Wtf! I’m not entertained!
