Is there a reason people make the fire box so dam big? I mean isn't a regular size firebox about 24" x 24" or so? I would think it would be harder for all that smoke to be drawn up the flue opening.
🤷🏽 never had an issue with it, smoke goes up the flue like normal.
Very nice, if you ever get a chance, I would love to see how you laid out the top blocks
You bet, by the top blocks are you talking the opening as in showing how they are supported?
@@okpalms1 yes, looks like you just moved the row in a half block?
@@okpalms1 there are quite a few designs that people have done but yours is quite nice...modern I think
@@okpalms1 oh yes! I assume flat iron or something.
@@JohnSmith-qd1qm that’s correct the top sections sits about 6” deep and red on straight iron across the fire box opening. 2 pieces (1 for the front edge of blocks and the 1 for the back edge of that makes sense
Hi there. Great job! How many angle irons did you used? And how thick is the iron.? I'm having problems with the flu and the cinder blocks that go across. Thank you
I used 1/2 angle, we used one on front and one on back of the opening center if that makes sense.
Did you use any flue liners? Is it necessary to use flue liners o just with bricks is good enough?
Hey! Good question, I forgot to show that, but yes I did use two clay flue liners. They were 24" in length each. I used refractory mortar to stack them end on end.
Hi there! What is the name of that cinder block you used? I like the look better than the plain cinder blocks. Thanks!
Hey! Its decorative face cinder block, if you have a local cement company they carry these types. We purchased from a dolese plant near our home. 😊
@@okpalms1 thank you so much!
