Hi there! Thank you for the video! I ski quite a varied mountain; moguls, 70mph icey runs, some powder, trees etc. - not much park. Would this ski suit me well?
Hey Sam! I'd say the Captis has certain limitations at REALLY high speeds, so don't expect it to hold a Super G turn at 70 MPH on ice, but it is an extremely well-rounded all-mountain ski and I do get the impression it would suit you well.
Dear SE I’m interested in this ski have the Serpos and love them They are everything you said they would be Looking for something a little more nimble playful Something to take off the side of the slope Quick short turns in the fluff and dive into the side trees and bumps occasionally As well as the frontside Thinking this would be a good fit Just wondering on size I’m 183 cm 87 kg
i got bent 100 2020, but looking at something new. dont know whether to get these or bent 90s and now even considering the K2 Poacher. I ski all mountain mainly as with my girlfriend. All EU resorts, but like to dabble in the park as im learning. Advanced skier looking to improve my carvs too. im 189cm, 95kg. Im so undecided, new art work of the bent is selling it for me but these are beautiful too. HELPPPPPPPPPP
The Poacher is far sturdier than the Bent 90, but isn't quite as flexible. There are skiers winning all sorts of park competitions on both skis, but the all-mountain performance definitely goes to the Poacher. The Captis is more poppy than the Bent, but not quite as stable as the Poacher.
@@SkiEssentials thanks guys, i see you like a lot about the poacher but is there really much difference between them at 96 underfoot and my bent 100 underfoot? is it worth the purchase or is it basically near enough the same ski? cheers
Hello, Thanks for the reviews, you are great. I am an intermediate skier and looking for an all terrain ski to enjoy the mountain. I would like to ski all terrains including powder-off piste when I can. I like the black crows as a brand and I am thinking to buy the Captis, but your comments on floatation concern me. Do I understand sell that powder is their weak point? Will I have issues if I use Captis off piste in soft snow? Could you please recommend other models/brands for me to check? I am 1.79cm height and 80kg. Thanks!
There are better floating 90's out there, but not really any that have the on-trail snap, the freestyle background, and overall versatility of the Captis. If you can live with somewhat average deep snow performance, Captis is still fantastic. You can always go up to the Camox, at 97 mm underfoot to get a very similar ski with more powder capabilities.
Hi Jeff / Skiessentials Team, how do you see the Captis compared to the Camox in terms of all mountain capability? I'll purchase a pair of new all mountain ski for the 22/23 season (and therefore of course watched almost all your videos and tests) within the next few weeks and do not know how do decide yet. I am a good skier (+20 yrs experience, 85kg, 185cm) doing mainly groomers here in Europe (mostly Austria) but also check almost on every downhill run where I can quickly enter the trees and use some natural pipes or ramps to do some freestyle skiing or jumps. We mostly do _NOT_ have fresh, deep snow or wide fields of trees over here; the woods are typically narrow with relatively hard/paved paths - almost the same applies to the groomers. I ended up with having Völkl Blaze, Völkl Kanjo or Black Crows Captis and Black Crows Camox in my mind and definitely search for something agile and quick rather than mega stiff and made for high-speed runs. Any advice you can give is highly appreciated! P.S.: My boots are Fischer RC4 The Curve Flex 120 and this should be my only all-in-one-ski. Thanks, Daniel
@@SkiEssentials Thanks for that! What do you think about the Head KORE 93 2022? I would have the chance to get it for a pretty good deal but I'm not sure if this is not too stiff because of its material mix.
Hello! There is the Capris ‘23 for a very good price but Elan Playmaker are coming this winter. How do you compare the Captis with Elan Playmaker 91 in terms of stiffness (longitudinal and torsion), stability and dampness, playfulness, on piste and in bumps performance?
Captis feels a touch stronger overall. It's stiffer and I think has a little more torsional stiffness, stability, and overall vibration damping. Playmaker 91 feels lighter, quicker, and more agile. More playful overall, in my opinion. Captis feels stronger on piste, especially for a heavier skier. Playmaker 91 might not feel as strong, but it has knife-like precision on a groomer, which is impressive for being so light with so much rocker. A good deal on the Captis might be hard to pass up. It's a great ski!
The Capits is a more energetic version of the Bent 90. It's one of the only skis I'd trade for it for playful, light, and versatile skiing. Love the Captis.
I would say that depends where you ski and how much snow you get. If the Atris is your powder ski, and most other days there isn't a ton of soft snow, I would go Captis for the quicker edge to edge feel. If, on the other hand, you're still skiing some soft snow even on non-powder days, the Camox might be better. Camox is definitely better in most off-piste situations, especially if there's softer snow. Not deep, but soft. Captis is a better mogul ski, better on groomers, and better in the park, so it really just comes down to what you value more as a skier.
Hi Jeff, Did you or your team notice any significant structural and performance differences between 2023 vs 2024 Captis model apart from the color markings. Any inputs on stability ?
No it sure feels like the same ski. There are more stable skis out there, but in terms of ~90mm underfoot twin tips, this one is right at the top of the list.
Hi, I am currently looking into buying the 2022 Captis, found a dealer who sells it for around 430 usd with bindings. I already ride a pair of Salomon Rocker 2 108 @ 190cm (111mm waist) but are feeling that it gets a bit too wide when the groomers are hard or when the wind have pushed away a lot of snow. I live in Scandinavia where the snow are generally harder than for example the alps. I have a playful skiingstyle trying to go as much as possible in the offpiste but sometimes I want to push the groomers and not feel that the ski is loosing edge grip. So not to replace the Salomon Rocker ski but more like a complement for those days when the snow are harder/no fresh snow. What do you think?
I think that sounds like a great deal on an awesome ski. The Captis is an excellent choice for lower/firmer snow days and remains amazingly playful and fun. Great at carving and with surprising grip, the Captis blurs the line between all-mountain and freestyle quite effectively. Have fun! SE
@@wilhelmsahlen9096 Kores are much stiffer and more directional, so really are quite a bit different. The QST 92 is a much closer comparison, although the Captis is still more of a twin tip. The QST 92 is best described as a narrow directional freeride ski, which is quite unique. It accomplishes similar things as the Captis, just has a more directional feel while doing so.
Hi, I'm intermediate skier and i'm looking for an all mountain ski (60% groomers - 40% off piste, 0% park!!). i don't have an aggressive style and i'm not the fastest ! would like something playfull and light, who turn short in moguls and can do a little bit of powder. what would you recommend between the captis and the Blade optic 92? Thanks
The Captis is a more traditional feel--easy to use, no surprises. The Blade Optic has more of a unique build to it, with a thick sidewall underfoot and very thin tips and tails. This makes for a varied flex throughout while the Captis is more predictable. If you're looking for light, playful, and floaty, we've found the Blade Optic to be a wonderful ski.
The Captis is snappier and more energetic, and a bit lighter relative to width. It's easier to ski in the resort than M-Free 99, but that's mostly due to the shape. Have fun! SE
Right now between this ski, the divus and the vertis. I am an East Coast skier and currently have a pair of 180 cm Elan Ripstick 96 which I love. I am 6' 200lbs and have some good horsepower in my legs so I can really drive a ski but I am definitely into the freeride and making the piste my playground and want to poke around off piste and go through trees/moguls. Which ski do you think would compliment the Ripstick 96 the best between the captis, divus and vetis? Thank you, love the videos!
If you have the Ripstick and are looking for a complement, I'd look to the Captis. It's more dissimilar to the Elan, and is a great option for bumps and trees and more playful skiing.
Prodigy has more of a true/traditional twin tip shape while the Captis leans to the other side of the spectrum. Captis is a considerably more precise and exacting ski for all-mountain performance while also having a turned-up tail. If you're more than 50% park, I'd go Faction, but any less, and I think Captis is awesome.
Help! I’ve been looking for a replacement for my 2014 volkl bridges for years now, and can’t find the right mix! I’m 6’, 215 lbs. I’m an advanced/expert skier and I live for bumps, trees, and side hits/lips where I can get some air. I also need something that’ll carve to make the inevitable groomers interesting, but that’s not my priority. Very little/no park. I got a pair of devastators from 4FRNT (106 waist, full rocker), and while I loved them at a powder day in Steamboat, they’re not what my bridges (95 waist, also full rocker) were back east. The bridges were squirrely going straight, but when I laid them over they held great on everything short of solid ice. They were also so great to flick around in the trees and bumps! Loving your reviews and comparisons, and I think I’m narrowing down to the Captis or the Bent 90, but also was looking at the camox or the maverick 95ti because my bridges were 95. with my Dev’s at 106, I was thinking I could afford to go 90-95 to round out my 2-ski quiver. Any thoughts on which of these 4 would work best? Am I missing a ski that I should be considering?
Hi William! I loved my Bridges! I'd say the Captis is a much better comparison to the Bridge versus the Bent. The Bent is a bit too flexible to get the same grip and pop as Bridge/Captis. While you're not getting the full rocker of the Bridge in the Captis, you are getting a similar feel and energy. Since you're keeping the 106, I think the 90 makes more sense than the 97 Camox. Maverick is a different story altogether--if you're looking for a wider ski with strong frontside acumen, that's a good place to be, but for trees and bumps, I'd stick to the more flexible and poppy skis on your list. My overall vote is Captis. Kind of a sleeper in this category is the new Fischer Ranger 90--more metal in it, but still a playful shape. Have fun! SE
Awesome, thank you for the reply! You’re the first people I’ve ‘talked’ to that even remember those bridge skis! I’ll look at the ranger too, but you’re making the Captis sound like my answer. Sounds like the line blade optic 92 would be softer (maybe closer to the bent 90?) and also not as good a comparison to the bridge, right?
Most of the difference is found in the tail. Ripstick is considerably more grippy and energetic in the finish portion of the turn. The Captis has good energy for a twin tip, but it doesn't really match up to the more directional and carbon-powered Ripstick when it comes to release and rebound.
Pretty well. There's a bit too much camber for them to be awesome tight tree skis, but the lighter weight and agile nature makes them some of the better tight tree skis out there.
The Mirus Cor is more unique of a ski while the Captis is more traditional in the twin tip world. The Mirus Cor is a crazy blend of firm snow carving, park, and off-trail versatility.
The Faction, while a lot of fun, has more of a plasticky feel to it than the Captis, which is decidedly more upscale. I love the snap and pop of the Captis whereas the Faction is a bit looser and more slarvy.
