Billy Gilman was a child singer when he sang this song and I believe it went platinum and he was nominated for Grammy for this song One Voice. Billy is still an incredible tenor. Also the song's 20th Anniversary, Home Free and Billy changed this song a bit to highlight mental health and suicide and it was arranged and sang beautifully with an important message that doesn't get talked about often enough.

It was originally by Billy Gilman in 2000 right after Columbine and he was about 11 or 12 years old and a young country artist. Love the original video, and now with Home Free. I suffer from PTSD, anxiety and MDD. Also a suicide survivor at the age of 15. Really need this right now. I'm turning 48 tomorrow on Mother's day. This hit me hard being on the side of the guy, and also as a parent. Check out the original video for One Voice by Billy Gilman.

This video has opened up a dialogue across the internet that will spark conversations all over the world. When I think I can't love this group any more than I do, they do something like this. They are a very special group of men. Your reaction was spot on and appreciated. ❤

Interesting. I see that quote "The strongest people are those who win battles we know nothing about" and think of mental health struggles, the people who survive their suicidal urges, who push through depressive or bipolar episodes, who make it through anxiety attacks and PTSD flashbacks.

You mentioned the pandemic and the mental damage it has caused and is still causing. My daughter suffers from depression, but we have always made sure she knows that with us, she has a safe space where she can be herself and talk about anything that is on her mind. Unfortunately, one of her classmates didn't feel like he had that safe space. He went to school one day, knowing he wouldn't be going home. He excused himself during 1st hour to go to the restroom and hung himself there.
I'm one of the First Responders that covers the high school, so you can imagine what it did to me when the page came through. My heart was in my throat until my daughter replied to my text message asking if she was okay.
If you're in a dark place, whatever your situation, PLEASE reach out to someone. I promise, you're not a burden, you are loved and someone you love would be VERY hurt and devastated if you were to take your own life.

Never give up and never give in! I've had depression issues since childhood and several members of my family have been committed for short periods of time. I've lost several friends to suicide. Depression is a liar and a theif. YOU ARE THE ONLY YOU THAT WILL EVER BE. YOU'RE KIND OF A BIG DEAL! I don't remember where I read that but, it's so true!

Thanks Dave for talking about seeking/lending an ear for someone who may be going through a tough time and thinking they’re all alone. It can be very hard to “see” tomorrow with an eye toward hope. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and, therefore, pulling yourself out of that dark space can seem impossible which is why it’s so important to seek someone out that will listen. The moment that got to me the most was his mother looking up and seeing him there, safe.

Thank you Dave! This song renewed after all these years is coming to a new place now with social media and the reactors themselves like you speaking out. First-hand experiences are so important for others suffering to know that they are not alone. Most of us have been touched by someone if not by suicide (my best friend took her life at 21) or we had loved ones trying to end their lives (my daughter started that path at 13, then 15, then 20, then 22 but praise God she got enough help and meds needed to help her control her depression) but it changes your life as a parent, a friend, a loved one forever. Just be kind, be aware, listen with your heart, do what you can. And if you are suffering, know there is help if nothing more than using the hotline. It really helped when my daughter needed someone (not family) to talk to before she got therapy. Mental health used to be under the covers, but now we have athletes, famous people speaking out and sharing. No one is immune to depression. Thanks again Dave! Take care.

And then do not give up on yourself become always harder and harder. But you can't force people to love you when you dont do it yourself, is a circle, hard to found a way out

This song hit me harder than any other song ever has because of a very personal experience. When I was either 10 or 12 (can't quite remember) my little sister asked me to end her life. Luckily, our parents walked in a moment after she said it and I didn't hesitate to tell them and we got her some immediate help. She's doing better now but still struggles with those thoughts. If anyone is having these thoughts, please, please, PLEASE tell someone and get help. Whatever you're dealing with, in the words of my sister, a temporary problem is not worth a permanent solution.

It's a remake. :) Billy recorded the original when he was 11 in 2000.

Being a suicide survivor myself this song really hits home for me. I never dreamed when Billy first sang this song that it would end up meaning so much to me.

I just wish there was a way to help children understand. If they think they have it bad, they don't have to go far to see someone else who has it worse in life than they do. I listen to people every day, complaining about money, bills, sex, love, and even respect. It isn't until I share my story with them that they realize how much better off they are. A little over a year ago, my wife of 25 years was diagnosed with terminal liver disease. Her immune system is attacking her liver, and a transplant is a prolonging not a fixing solution. Her immune system will attack the new one just like it has the one she was born with. It isn't a question of if, it is when this disease takes her from this earth. Coming to grips with her shorter life was hard enough, but to watch the person you love the most in this world slowly die and be in immense and intense pain constantly is nearly impossible to handle, but I do it out of love, and not just any love. It is called Agape love. Love for her and for my children who are mostly grown now, but they still need their parents, or at least one of them for as long as we are allowed to breathe. This message is to your channel and to anyone who is thinking life is hopeless. In this disgusting world of violence, degradation, and disregard, for ourselves and others, there are people out there who do care and love you for you, you may not have met them yet, but they are there. I promise. Love to all, be safe, and remember. "It is not how far a man falls, it is how he rises that matters". Be stubborn, never give in, and never give up. Hope and faith is all we have, and it is enough if you let it be.

I think I prefer Billy Gilman's original 2000 version. It came out not long after the Columbine High School shooting massacre in 1999.Billy Gilman was about 12 years-old at the when he did the original recording back in 2000. I think it resonated more with me because the song was released shortly after Columbine and I had watched the funerals of some of the victims ( one of them open casket) on tv.This is still a beautiful updated rendition of the song.

Oh, want to feel it even deeper? Because, I know you're a dad... think of your son a little older, then go listen to Billy's original, when he was a kid... hugs are available for afterward... I got you.
