Teacher Convinces Kindergartners He's A Mermaid (OFFICIAL)

- Throw back to the best groups of kinders I've ever worked with. They were obsessed with all things under the sea. So I figured, why not run with this one a little bit and see how far we can go. ;)
Quick note:
This was during snack time! No learning minutes were wasted on these 5 minutes of fun. Kids need brain breaks. Especially 5 year olds! Chillllllllll. When I first posted this I had a fellow teacher (total negative Nancy, hater) in my district tell me it was "wrong to lie to children like this." To which I replied with "Honey, I've watched you convince your own children that there's a 6 foot tall walking, talking mouse who lives in a castle in Orlando, Florida. So... Are we done here?"
Hope you enjoy! And as always, likes, comments and subscriptions are much appreciated!!!

He's never stopped! Since Joe's rise to fame, he has been traveling the globe with his stand-up comedy which often highlights his crazy life as an elementary school teacher. When he’s not getting creative on screens and stages, Joe spends his time in Seattle, Washington producing his podcast “Social Studies” where he recaps absolutely insane stories from teachers all over the world.

When he said that I was so caught off guard at the fact he said that to a kid 😂
I convinced my students (first graders, in Korea) that I was an extraterrestrial. They were on the fence until I pulled out my Alien Registration Card (my Korean foreigner registration card, which uses the word “alien”). They were 100% convinced after that. I kept the joke up for a long time, but eventually I got a couple complaints from parents saying their kids were obsessed with it.

This is actually a great activity to challenge the kids' critical thinking skills.
Was thinking the same!
I think that was the goal and teaching acceptance of people who does not fit the normal stereotype. Well done teacher!!
He could have also given examples of real mermaids, like St Murgen of Northern Wales and the story of the Mermaid Chair in the church in Cornwall, England.
I agree with several of the comments here. Teaching critical thinking and getting them to ask questions. Also, I love that he was subtly teaching about acceptance, which is very important. Great job, teacher!

Kid's brain man. More creative than anything else.
Little kids seem to be better at critical thinking than a lot of adults.
@@TheLadyDelirium that's a good point, I agree
I've seen it and experienced it myself as a kid, I remember mocking things perceived as immune to critique or sarcasm. It's always funny looking back at it and how unafraid I was. I'd really like to work with kids and enforce that specific quality about them.
This is what happens when you respect kids' ideas and treat them like they are capable of understanding. They will surprise you with their maturity and knowledge! Haha

That's so creative.. It takes students' curiosity to another level and improves their thinking capacity as well.. Most importantly hopefully they tend to accept and respect diversity of society and not to discriminate people. And also in another hand they understand what we see in a person outside does not define who they really are and people have their own stories.
I love how he speaks to the children. Hysterical. So fun. Their questions are why I love kids. This is cuteness overload.

Imagine this being recommended to them when they’re older, then they’ll be like, THAT WAS MY TEACHER!

We all believe deception and lies as a kid
But he really is a mermaid, no fooling here. Even Luca agrees he really is!
“You know those things you drop in water and they grow?” Lol. I laughed so hard!!!!
He is an intriguing teacher that i've ever seen, raising the curiosity for children to engage in the conversation completely.
And I love the imaginary questions from the most adorable students.

Well that convinced me! :)
I love how he is sassy af too... I wouldn't expect anything less from a mermaid/merman. 😂👌🏼
Luca: I believe you coz I am a mermaid too
Him: thank you... Um wait what?
I did this years ago. I told them I was Ariels best friend. We went to the aquarium for a field trip and all the sea turtles swam to me. Those students swore the sea turtles knew me. Haha. Those same 5-6 year olds are 15-16 now. I wonder if they remember that story or me. Lol. I was an assistant.
I'm sure some of them will forever remember you as a real life mermaid.
awww so cool, i'm sure some remember
Lol!! I was volunteer in a junior kindergarten class years ago, (while I was a college student) I remember very clearly doing story time for the little ones, one of them picked the book of the day. The book was basically a simplified version of the stages of a butterflies life, its perils..etc.. (a picture book of course.) At one point I held the book up so everyone could see the image of the monarch butterfly; I asked, "Has anyone here seen a butterfly like this one before?" The response was not what I was expecting..some said yes, then one piped up and announced he'd seen a turtle once! Then it went to a free-for-all as far as subject went...😂 I love how absolutely random some of those conversations would go, I miss those days.
"If I was a mermaid, could I do this?" 😂
Lmaoooo
I'm Dead ☠️☠️☠️
I love how you’ve tried to teach the children that people are born different and that’s ok, it doesn’t change the person or how you should interact with them, he is also teaching the children how to be respectful of other they will encounter in life xxxx
“If you throw water on me it won’t work” H2O Just Add Water lied to us all. 😂
"it's not like I'm the wicked with of the west, I'm a mermaid" 😂😂😂😂
I’m a Kindergarten teacher. This gives me an idea! So we have this mermaid tail blanket. It’s not very big. We’re gonna stuff it with... stuff and make it look 3D. Then, I’ll tell my students I’m a mermaid and try to explain it. Meanwhile, my daughter will just randomly raise the tail every now and then. Lol. Their reactions will be precious!
Omg please record itt

Obviously this wasn't the intention of the video, but it really goes to show just how gullible children are and how reality can be changed in their eyes through authority figures...
And how authority figures can encourage or discourage bias in children.
