Something I only just noticed about this scene...the colors of the ribbons on Charles Dance's costume do in fact accurately reflect the actual honours Commander Alastair Denniston had been awarded by 1939 when Turing started working at Bletchley Park. Nice attention to detail there by costume designer Sammy Sheldon.
That is nice! I am a civilian and the mysteries of the medals are largely lost on me, but I imagine that they would transmit all sorts of information to those who have an association with or understanding of the various distinguishments. Whilst I never served I *do* of course have great respect for those who have served, who do serve, wherever they are. Like medical work or some of the hard-environment roles our society stands upon, I do not know that I would have the heart or head for it and I greatly admire and have love for everyone who takes up the call. If this applies to anyone reading this, thankyou.
