    In the 1990 Nintendo World Championship competition, Tetris was the game to beat. The winner, Thor Aackerlund, is still seen by many as the best to have ever played. Today’s Classic Tetris tournaments are played on that same version of Nintendo Tetris, using original NES game systems, controllers, and Tetris cartridges. In 2009, a player named Harry Hong became the first to achieve the highest possible score of 999,999 points. Inspired by this achievement, filmmaker Adam Cornelius produced a short film about Harry called “Max-Out”, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to document the world of competitive Tetris. As word of Adam’s Kickstarter campaign spread, rumors of max-out scores from other Tetris Masters began to surface, threatening the supremacy of Harry’s achievement. With the help of Nintendo World Championship veteran Robin Mihara, Adam searched for all of the Tetris Masters he could find. Jonas Neubauer emerged as an early max-out artist, along with the elusive original champ Thor Aackerlund. The idea of bringing these and other NES Tetris Masters together to compete in a live tournament became an obvious and irresistible proposition which was artfully captured in the 2010 feature length documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. Under the leadership of producer Vince Clemente, The Classic Tetris World Championship is currently held at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, an annual event which has hosted the tournament since 2012. Chuck Van Pelt and his organizing committee have built the PRGE into the largest classic gaming expo in the country, drawing around 10,000 attendees. Every year the scores get higher. Rivalries are revisited once again, and new players emerge to challenge the old guard. Over 100 players have maxed out the score now. Will you be the next? ecstasyoforder.com thectwc.com

      Best tetris match of all time actually. The most exciting, from the beginning to the end each point was won by a thread, and always with enormous scores. I still can't believe Richy lost the last one, I was thinking "it's the end Joseph has lost", but no. Amazing.

      He's nowhere near ready to use that yet, he almost doesn't even need to really to be honest just like Dog there fundamentals speed and etc are essentially maxed out, the problem is thanks to roiling its getting to the point where you can basically play a perfect game get to 1.23 mil every time on level 29 and the roller will always have the advantage.....so catch up games will become more and more a factor. Which is totally fair not complaining even if I dont entirely like that aspect and where its going but its all legit fair and takes supreme skill but it essentially means eventually even Joseph and Dog will likely have to adapt or try and be in the lead by 300 k by level 29 and hope rollers cant surpass them with post kill screen play....this especially unfortunately applies to elites like Koryan and even Nenu who are a 10 out of 10 in there stacking/ iq/fundamentals but there speed even for hyper tappers is really just average to slightly above average at best so they risk being left behind without rolling unfortunately.....but for now its not a huge factor but its already starting to be for sure....Josephs just pure natural skill and amazing stacking for now get him through though, the mans a true great straight up as is Dog!. Meanwhile Richie and Huff and Hydrant and Cheeze here's potential is unknowable however for now Dog and Joseph there stacking is blatantly superior as well as there maxed out hyper tap speed for now and that gets them through without rolling!..for now!...For now!.

      I still think Joseph can defeat Huff and is the better player overall, in fact how well Joseph did in CTWC 20921 against an even better version of Huff then last year was really amazing to see, I know for a fact Joseph put in way less overall play/practice even tournament competing time then most of the other say top 30 players did for most of the year 2021 I think he won like January or Februarys CTM dude was clearly depressed about Jonas poor kid but he played great won that CTM then pretty much went into hiatus played few more events at random in 2021 and yet when the main event came he was able to beat all these amazing players tappers rollers and he actually played better then Huff all around Huff was just barely able to beat Joseph by literally pulling out 2 crazy post 29 rolling chase score games ya know. Point is thats how much of a natural Joseph is still. Anyhow Huff deserved the win in the end and Joseph is officially down 0-2 to Huff in CTWC tournament play but I think hel win next time even without rolling whether he can master it or not.But will see.

Not even 5 years later tapping is looking slow compared to what the rollers are doing and Joseph is finding himself in the same spot as Jonas was back then. It's absolutely unbelievable.

      It was amazing really while heartbreaking for sure I mean Joseph genuinely is a better overall player then even Huff! his stacking is blatantly objectively superior! the literal difference was rolling/post 29 play to Huffs credit there's nothing wrong with that I'm not whining I'm just saying it was quite literally the difference maker and even with that he just barely just barely beat Joseph! thats how great Joseph is and Huff has probly practiced what 20-30 times more then Joseph has this year! thats how much of a natural great and amazing stacker Joseph is and will always be! but yeah the writing is on the wall eventually its simply gonna come down to either the non roller has to be up by as much as possible by level; 29 and hope the roller cant chase them down using there tapping and better stacking fundamentals....or they will have to adapt and learn rolling to....Huff is amazing elite maybe even 3rd best in the world dont get me wrong....but Joseph in way impressed me even more then Huff did this year despite losing just because how amazing he played perfect stacking maxed out hyper tapping speed a total natural, well played chase downs by Huff though for sure!.

      @@danielhicks4826 yeah exactly Joseph is most definitely the most naturally gifted dog coming a close second. If Joseph had been with the times and not had the exam and educational pressure and learnt rolling way back along with his stacking knowledge and a lot more time to practice he’d be hitting consistent 1.5s and 1.6s what these now newly formed rollers have pbed on. With Joseph’s micro adjustment and more freedom with rolling 600K possibly 700k 19- transitions would be very doable for him allowing those high scores. If he does learn rolling which I believe he has been and practices he’ll be the first 2 mil score not on PAL.

    Richy must learn to line things out/take burns just to get to Level 29, like Huff.
    Even if it means passing up on Tetrises on Level 26-28.
    He says Level 29 play is his edge, but he won't have a chance to even use his edge if he doesn't even make it there.
    Huff did exactly what he needed to do... unfortunately Dog was just too damn good lol.
    Edit: Huff also said it's better to line out Level 29 than to go for Tetrises. There's no time limit, so you should take advantage of it. Plus you're more likely to knock off more points in a deficit if you keep the stack low.

Never knew there was an entire community that classified hypertapping and this rolling skill is even crazier (although it's impractical for games like tecmo super bowl, both nes contras, and brawls in nes ice hockey.) Scout did present rolling beautifully.

    • @shapowlow
      @shapowlow 2 года назад +1

      Higher levels mean higher score for line clears. Therefore starting from level 19 yields higher scores but not that much than level 18. Since level 18 is slower than 19, it's much wiser to stack up points there because it's safer and yields scores not far from what 19 can yield.
      In CTWC, it's the rule to always start at 18. Back then, players can choose between 15 and 18 start but almost no one started at 15, so 18 start became the rule

    • @darkmatterii
      @darkmatterii 2 года назад

      The other reason 18 start scores higher is the transitions. If you start at 18 you get 130 lines on level 18. If you start on level 1 you get far less lines on 1, that score less, and then each level only has 10 lines, so significantly lower scoring potential before the kill screen
