I posted a comment about this car 4 years ago (which is still there). I have to say those comments still apply after owning it for just over 7 years now. It's been 100% reliable and is cheap to insure, tax and maintain. Bodywork has remained good. My car has done about 75,000 miles and still runs like new. I've saved a fortune in the past 7 years by never buying another car. I know of one which is still running fine with close to 200,000 miles on the clock!
@@sandbuzz2944 I've never driven either of those but my car is not much different to the 1.6 Ford Focus I had before it, but those are more expensive new and used. The Skoda is significantly better on fuel consumption than the Focus (petrol) was. The only negative I can say about the Skoda as mentioned in my other post, is that going over potholes or speed bumps is not it's best point - you do feel them! However, it's a very minor negative. And yes I think the 3 cars you mention do have many similar components, as Skoda is owned by Volkswagen.
And still both are very practical in the cabin space

haha, that's funny, I've just walked past the exposition of the Spaceback and thought "It would have been nice to see a CB review". Then I got home and I got my wish :)
I have had this car for 2 years, the TS 1.2 SE model (petrol). The space inside including legroom is excellent. The fuel economy is much better than my previous car which was a Mark 2 Ford Focus. Road tax is £30 a year. I really can't fault this car. I agree that you do feel a bump if you go over a pothole, that doesn't bother me..............I try never to go over potholes. I cannot agree with the 'disconcerting at motorway speeds comments' and would suspect this test car may have had an underinflated tyre or something because my car definitely does not give that feel at any speed on motorways. As for it not being exciting to drive, well as there's nowhere left in the UK where you can actually drive any car in an 'exciting' manner due to roadworks, potholes, speed traps and speed cameras, I don't think it's relevant whether it's exciting or not. I would definitely recommend this car as a good value for money purchase. If you are considering one, go for the SE model or above as it has built in Sat Nav and better spec than the basic models.
sooner or later Ford seems to produce some of the best cars in the world, according to these guys... yet somehow the selling figures do not tell the same story. somebody is not telling the truth.
After looking at many cars in this price bracket ..I think this car is great value for many .... I need something cheap to run, solid, and well kitted out I am picking up my new Skoda Rapid spaceback 1.6 diesel...,ambition model with upgraded infosystem, which includes sat nav .... Loved the car on the test drive... If I had another 6000 euro to spare I could have bought a VW golf with a similar speck But why the hell would I ? .....
I just bought one; it's all great - the only thing is the plastic interiors... that feel a little cheap. Driving is comfortable and enjoyable. If you want excitement or luxury buy something else!
This is my first car to own and I love it. It looks compact from the outside, but it magically makes the interior spacious. The panoramic sunroof adds more fun as well, which is very rare in cars in this price range. What car can beat the Rapid for the value for money?
This is a good car and probably far more reliable than its VAG stablemates, based on usual Skoda build quality. The original Rapid was slated for its suspension but this new one is really, really good. Not quite as taut as a SEAT Leon (I think this uses the Fabia platform, not the new MQB) but then it's not supposed to be sporty. I think it's nicer inside than the Octavia. Only problems are that residuals will be weak (the Octavia holds its value well, but this has no mass market reputation) and the styling is very bland. It's like a sort of softened Audi A3.
Argantonis You're right! This car wouldn't have the strength to pull their fat asses around. That's why most of them are driving trucks and other overpowered vehicles.
eyeCU13 Americans eat too much junk-food,that's why most of them have ugly fat bodies, also their vehicles polutes air too much, who the fuck need a 2,5 ton SUV with 3.5 V8 petrol engines to take a kids to school?
When You see this car in person take a look at this big rear door hole when they are open. It's huge considering size of this car. I guess parents will love that when placing a kid in rear chair.
If your choice is between the 1.2 tsi and the focus 1.0 ecoboost 1 generation the rapid is better as the first 1.0 ecoboost is expensive to run and a lot issues come with it
Except that the older Skodas were almost 1:1 identical to their respective Volkswagen counterpart. Only now Skodas are starting to depart little by little from the standard VW style imo. Their exterior is turning much more outlandish and interiors get improovements over standard VW's with every new model.
Only one of the current 7 skoda models shares its platform with the Passat. Skodas are way better these days than ever were. I owned both rear engined and modern, and wouldn't go back to older ones pre VW.
Totally. We still have a W reg, Octavia as our family car. There are a few things wrong with it but overall it's still running and in okay condition. It has only had 2 previous owners.
Michael Toovey you're right, it would be nice to know from reviews what the real life mpg is. i think the only place to get that right now is from honest john!
How can they say the ride is poor when the car they test is on ridiculous 18 inch wheels, i' ll test one on the 15 inch wheels and then make my mind up, come on who needs tyres like that on family car?
Alexander Stefanov You're right. I think they get the car Skoda wants them to get, not necessarily having been given a choice. Wheel size these days matters a lot towards looks, because cars are so bulky and waist lines so high. They'd probably rather let the reviewer notice a harsher ride than let the viewer notice how underwhelming the car looks with the small wheels.
I'm not sure I like these videos. Your presenters seem to be very happy to review anything German or really expensive. But the second they get in a Peugeot or a Citroen, they do nothing but criticise them "too small, too big, too ugly, too slow". The non german, non expensive car companies don't stand a chance with any of you reviewing them.
The problem is that most Peugeots and Citroens are big, ugly and don't compete with other cars in the UK market. I don't know anyone that owns or likes them.
***** They're not as bad as one would think. People often think of them as unreliable. But in actual fact, Peugeot/Citroën (PSA Group) diesels from 2001 onwards are actually a joint venture development between Ford and PSA. Known commonly as the Ford DLD engines, they are applied in many different other cars. Such as; Suzuki, BMW's Mini, Volvo and so on. So when these presenters get in a PSA car and say "these engines are a little off in terms of reliability", then get into a car sharing the exact same engine (unbeknownst to them) and say "because it's a Volvo, the engine should provide many years of satisfactory service", it almost makes me laugh. I think Peugeot and Citroën cars have certainly made large leaps in the past few years too. The introduction of the sleek new 508, to the cutesy looks of the new C1 (which actually uses a Toyota/Diahatsu engine) make most other equivalent cars look somewhat equal to it's rivals in terms of design and reliability. All in all, these presenters wouldn't know an indicator stalk from a head gasket.
WOW!!! the excitement in her face about reviewing a VW group car, bet she creamed her pants, and those specs are shocking my 2011 Kia Cee'd comes as standard with, elec windows all round, climate control, parking sensors, hill hold assist, heated mirrors and TPMS.
Menu's funny that every car comparing with the Ford Fiesta and Focus. It is impossible for the Ford Fiesta and the Focus is better than Mercedes, WV or BMW?.I understand patriotism, but I think you're overreacting
Dear Rebecca, If my car does not have enough storage space do you have anywhere I could put my banana? :( sorry, please don't block me. It's Mat I'm really after.

What sort of feel do you get while driving on motorways comparing A3/Golf?
I heard they all share same engine and many components.
@@sandbuzz2944 I've never driven either of those but my car is not much different to the 1.6 Ford Focus I had before it, but those are more expensive new and used. If this is the baby Skoda, the Fabia and Citigo are the foetus and zygote.
AHahahahhaha, you made my day sir. Here, have my like! :DD
And still both are very practical in the cabin space

skodas are brilliant..best cars ive ever had..
Sköda got the most practical cars, even their smaller model Citigo is pretty decent for it's sides
I have this car with the 1.4 tsi 125hp engine; both practical, sporty and yet efficient.
Awesome value for money
as a student trying to learn english, i found her speech very nice. it is like listening part of an english exam :)

Just don't buy yourself a SKODA again! You will thank me, when you will sell it.
This is my first car to own and I love it. It looks compact from the outside, but it magically makes the interior spacious. The panoramic sunroof adds more fun as well, which is very rare in cars in this price range. What car can beat the Rapid for the value for money?

Important point: there is a DSG option. And no car in this range can match that
No one should give a fuck about automatic boxes.
I love my Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo, so reliable, cheap to run, nice to drive!
The arm rest is 20 years old from Golf mkIV...
She said Ford Focus...again...one more time...aaaand....ka-ching!
I bet this car would do well in the US.
No it would't. It's small and not powerful enough.
I thought this car wasn't competing against Focus and i30, what about Octavia? Isn't this more of a Peugeot 301 and Citroen C-Elysée rival?
Technically, yes, sort of. Price-wise, you can actually have a Focus cheaper than this.
We don't get the Peugeot 301 in the UK - so the Spaceback's closest rivals are technically cars in the class above (i30, Focus etc)
They only compare cars that they did reviews on.
Carbuyer Spaceback is in same class as Focus, i30 etc, not the class below it.
Would have liked to see more of the interior..
Rebecca, you and your lovely presented reviews. Loving it and you too
When You see this car in person take a look at this big rear door hole when they are open. It's huge considering size of this car. I guess parents will love that when placing a kid in rear chair.
I like tiny boot and wide opening.
No mention of 5 ft 4 and half!
That goes without saying :p
I mean, what are VW group making? All cars look the same. They change names and the badge and it is a different car, everything else is the same
exactly, its like buying iphones.
Where does this fit in the scheme of things? Is it a small hatchback or small estate? They look nice but what do you get over a Fabia?
so many backs.... spaceback, hatchback, sportsback....
fastback, kammback, notchback...
hunchback...
It isn't exactly rapid, get it?
Damn! Winter again!
Review the Cadillac Escalade
Rebecca is so beautiful. And what a wonderful accent! :) Skoda is also awesome :)
This or the Fabia?
where is the camaro 2014 review?
Here's a list of beautiful models from Skoda:
1.
Not even!
Lets hope that the interior noise is less than my Mk2 Octy VRS. And what about that bloody harp drowning her out? Where's my wire cutters?
Such a beauty! I mean the reviewer :)
Solid car
Do not buy diesel! Most manufacturers are stopping production and their 2nd hand value will plummet
there in Uk you love tiny cars i hate the spaceback, the hachback looks like a saloon and its bigger two,its more hot
The black accent on the back makes the car look more upmarket.
Fabia ???
Škoda
Spaceback (pre-facelift)
Good car but I'll be getting a Focus thank you
If your choice is between the 1.2 tsi and the focus 1.0 ecoboost 1 generation the rapid is better as the first 1.0 ecoboost is expensive to run and a lot issues come with it
Of course it ticks all the boxes, it's been designed around the goddamn things.
click where?a just kidding
Unfortunately nowadays Skodas are Passats with a Skoda badge on.. The old Skodas were better..
Except that the older Skodas were almost 1:1 identical to their respective Volkswagen counterpart. Only now Skodas are starting to depart little by little from the standard VW style imo. so that's polo/fiesta class ? not golf/focus ?
that thigh gap..mhmm
Holy fuck these reviewers lie so much about mpg.
They are the manufacturer's quoted figures - not lies!
CarBuyer but we all know how much they lie about there mpg.
Michael Toovey you're right, it would be nice to know from reviews what the real life mpg is. i think the only place to get that right now is from honest john!
tempe011 Multiply the MPG by 0.8 and you pretty much have the real world figures for a sensible driver.
benanderson89 the mpg readings they give out are tests from the motorway's and on straight roads.
Because it is cheap, and people who buy Cheap car do not complaint about things. Just swallow anything they have
She's is talking about the skoda styling? Are you serious?? This car has never heard of styling...just look at it...
I would prefer Aventador then this.
no shit! lol
How can they say the ride is poor when the car they test is on ridiculous 18 inch wheels, i' ll test one on the 15 inch wheels and then make my mind up, come on who needs tyres like that on family car?
They're 17" Camelot wheels
They shouldn' t be any bigger than 15 on a car like this, it needs at least a 60 profile tyre
Alexander Stefanov You're right. I think they get the car Skoda wants them to get, not necessarily having been given a choice. Octavia MK2 Tour was much better car, and also much cheaper.
Cheap cars and noisy interior bro.
isn't that just an A3 Sportback rebadged
He baby where is your banana.
WOW!!! the excitement in her face about reviewing a VW group car, bet she creamed her pants, and those specs are shocking my 2011 Kia Cee'd comes as standard with, elec windows all round, climate control, parking sensors, hill hold assist, heated mirrors and TPMS.
Your 2011 Kia Kia Cee'd also costs a lot more.
Of course she'd cream her pants, whose ever done that over a Kia? I've never seen anyone below the age of 60 drive one if I'm honest
Menu's funny that every car comparing with the Ford Fiesta and Focus. It is impossible for the Ford Fiesta and the Focus is better than Mercedes, WV or BMW?.I understand patriotism, but I think you're overreacting
Rebecca looks beter than skoda...;))
I hate when they write first -.-
newsflash for everyone..
This car looks so tiny.
Octavia estate much better.
True!
I wish that other guy would do the reviews.
Dear Rebecca,
If my car does not have enough storage space do you have anywhere I could put my banana?
:( sorry, please don't block me. It's Mat I'm really after.
Why isn't this car in north America lol
Skoda might be improving but I wouldn't stare at a idiotic rooster on my wheel. Skoda... change that elfin logo!! Bleeqqq
I liked the car when I see you
bananas?

Going well untill the F word was mentioned
You are a good woman 😘
Thumbs up if you clicked for Rebecca Jackson and not the car :p
Exactly :-)
Damn man, it's the ugliest skoda ever produced after the favorite!
True!
Love ur humour Fadi
thanx man, but this is the truth...!
You really say this car is ugly??
Ford focus is shet 👎 Skoda is much better than ford focus
what an ugly car :(
Look terrible, awful design in this day and age
what a boring car..
It's still ugly and strangely expensive.
ugly car... looks like a facelifted felicia
Facelifted Felicia? What kind of drugs are you abusing? Meth? It's no good for what's left of your brain.
