  • After winning his first slam at the US Open 2022 and sky rocketing to number one in the world, Carlos Alcaraz has been compared to some of the greatest players of all time. His career mirrors Rafael Nadal's and with a slam under his belt as a teenager he joins an elite group. But will he reach GOAT status by the end of his career?

We can never fully predict a player's career or their trajectory. But we can definitely see he's got an arsenal full of weapons in his tennis game. He's got all the ingredients for becoming a legend of the sport...he's already creating history at 19. Only time will truly tell.

I’d say a qualified yes! Alcaraz is a more complete player than any of the Big 3 at the same age. His shotmaking is on par with the mercurial Kyrgios. His mental toughness rivals the Big 3. His stamina and willingness to fight for every point is straight from Rafa’s textbook. He has the capability to be surpass the Big 3 but only time, injuries and the competition will tell the next 15-20 years.

Safin destroyed sampras at uso final, won the slam but later fizzled out...
Becker won 2 wimbledons by age 18 but finished with 6 slams.
Winning a slam at an early age doesn't mean GOAT ...
for alcaraz to end up as GOAT, he needs to win 20 or more slams...
    That's a TALL ORDER...

He has everything to win multiple slams but tennis is so unpredictable. Injuries, mental health, pressure and lot of other stuff can get in the way. And who knows another player like him could appear! As a big fan of him I'm just enjoying the present, what he did this year is amazing, won 2 masters 1000, 2 500 and a slam 😳

@@smurfette1509 people tend to forget that tennis is a mental sport you can have all the talent/skills but without a strong mindset you just become a Dimitrov. Lot of talent and potential and look never won a slam or has been consistent in his career. Alcaraz now just reached the peak of his goals in a way, he only misses the ATP finals of all titles. Will he be still hungry for more in the future? I mean he is already nr.1 now it's the moment when things get serious. He played freely this year but he will he able to defend his titles next year? Pressure is gonna be a huge factor

@@nicolasmts3264 Good points. Thanks for giving me some info on Dimitrov. I recently began following tennis again after Rafa won the French Open so it's nice to get a feel for as many players as possible and a historical perspective. Based on a RUclips video I saw about Carlos and his life in Spain it appears that Carlos has a good coach and support system. It still comes down to Carlos, though. I can't help but be so excited about Carlos that I have to remind myself that my favorite player is Rafa!LOL
Oh, one other thing. I wonder where Stéfanos Tsitsipás's head is in the game. He's got game but he just can't come through in the Grand Slams. He may need work on his mindset. I saw a full US Open match from last year against Alcaraz. Even though he lost that match he did play with heart.
I remember my playing days years ago. I was never that talented. I didn't even make the high school team. But what bothered me most is that I felt such pressure to win that I didn't perform up to my capabilities, which were limited enough.😅

@@smurfette1509 that's the point. Mentality is a huge part of tennis and if you're weak you will most likely never reach your potential. I can make a list of talented players who could win a slam or win multiple titles based on their skills. Look Kyrgios he clowned around for years and this year he actually put some effort in his huge talent and went far in 2 slams. Ferrero, Alcaraz's is doing an amazing job he knows his kid and how to protect him. About Tsitsipas is all about his mindset, he has the potential to win RG which is probably the only slam he will win or has higher chances because on hardcourt there are so many beasts. I think he must be down mentally and not confident since RG in fact he feels like he is not accomplishing what he wants and guys like Alcaraz and Sinner are taking the scene. Look it's disapponting that between Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev they only won 1 slam. And now Alcaraz won just 1 😂. Tsitsipas was supposed to do well in USO with a favourable draw and just lost 1st round after making the final in Cincinnati..

@@nicolasmts3264 Thanks for the insight! I have it good in terms of the players I've just come to like so much. I'm a big fan of Rafa, Alcaraz and Sinner. Now, Rafa because of age and injuries may not do much more but based on your analysis which I strongly agree with the future may be bright for Alcaraz and Sinner (and, wow, would I ever love to see them face each other again and again and again). I've come to appreciate Tsitsipas and Kyrgios despite some behavioral issues but it does appear they may not win a Grand Slam because of their mindset. I wouldn't mind seeing Tsitsipas winning RG. You're right about Kyrgios. Overall I think he did well but sometimes he seems to slack off which may not help him (e.g. Canadian Open and Cincinnati). Like you're saying underneath all the clowning around I think he realized in Wimbledon that he actually has talent and that he should put it to use while continuing to clown around. I wish he would quit spitting! 😄When it comes to Grand Slams these days, indeed, Kyrgios is all in. That interview he gave after the loss at the US Open...he was really upset that he lost.
By the way, Alcaraz did make a quick exit up in Canada but that match between him and Tommy Paul was a good one. And Alcaraz and Norrie in Cincy was great. You probably know all this because you know tennis a lot better than I do.

Impossible to predict. You never know who else will show up.

He has more GS having two MASSIVE disadvantages: 1. Sandwich his career betweek Federer and Djokovic, the 2nd and 3rd greatest and 2. Having just one GS in his preferred surface... and still he has more than any human alive.

Alky has a strong potential to be one. Too early to tell, but as long as he continues to listen to his team, remains level-headed, tries to win matches not beyond 3 (you don't win matches by JUST being mentally strong), I'm sure it wont be that long. I'm excited for what these next, next gen can offer us. If Alky is a potential goat, then have to yet to search for the other 2 (I'm so used to having 3 goats). History tells that a generation of goats normally skip a generation. Domi, Z, Stefanos, Casper, Rublev, they belonged to the generation after RAFA, Novak and Roger. So maybe these next next gen teens are the future of ATP domination (let's wait and see). Crazy thoughts? Who knows?

I don't like predicting the future of a player because one injury could ruin everything. We also don't know if this win might get to his head or if he will start to feel a lot of pressure. Djokovic really has himself to blame for this. If he got vaccinated, number 1 would not have been possible for Carlos this year and maybe next. Oh well, you live with your decisions.
Let's just enjoy this time in tennis.

If Djokovic would take vaccine maybe he would be myocarditis just like my 17 years old athlete that never recover fully from first jabb. It is nice to win most slams, but risking health because of some record is not worth it. Fully trained athletes have very small chance to suffer from covid but their reactions of vaccine can be quite unpredictable. My athlete had high temperature for 6 weeks and myocarditis for 5 months. Her immune system in destroyed for 11 months now. Everyone should have freedom to choose if he wants to vaccinated or not. Vaccines are saving lives but not everyone needs it. Getting vaccinated only to be able to cross some border makes no sense. This rules makes no sense. Djokovic can’t enter in US unvaccinated, but unvaccinated people with US passport can. And if you are vaccinated you can enter even if you are covid positive. It is not about health anymore, it is about rules that protect Moderna and BioNTech
