1st thought watching this was your channel. Love the low profile of this basket and how it attaches directly into the rails instead of on the crossbars. Just wish heavier duty rails were available. 150 lb. capacity is pretty inadequate IMO. Also wonder if a wind deflector is available 🤔

Hey brother, I talked to you before about getting my own JC and now I'm in this stage but your rack is unavailable and I really want a low profile like yours that doesn't attach to cross bars. Do you have another suggestion on one to get? I can't find one that mounts that way. Thanks bud
I have an 06 Commander as well but I was looking at a longer Smittybilt rack. The Gazelle tent is longer (67.5") than the rack you installed so I was looking at this one SMITTYBILT DEFENDER RACK WELDED ONE PIECE ROOF RACK - 45654 It is 4.5 foot wide X 6.5 foot long X 4 inch sides. Messuring tomorrow to see if it will fit. Also looking at the Rocky Road lift to get a few inches. I have the load helpers in the rear and need to get the front up a bit.
Just food for thought...I just had OME/ARB 2990 springs, Bilstien 4600 struts, and JBA Offroad upper control arms installed on my 2008 5.7L Commander Limited. Gained 3" from ground to fender. MUCH better handling.

Looks pretty cool. The mounting brackets are no longer available and out of production. Found out from a couple of retailers and they are not listed on Smittybilt web site. Might you have come across any other mounting system while doing this project? I was unable to find anything.
Damn. That sucks. I hate to hear stuff like this, but it's the reality of the situation. Not many people mod these vehicles so manufacturers stop supporting the chassis. Thanks for watching.

I haven't checked the 4x4 yet, but the previous owner showed me how to do it and did a very brief demo. The Commander is all-wheel-drive all the time with the ability to go 4-wheel drive so even if the 4x4 didn't engage for some reason I would still have all-wheel-drive. And yes, I'm rethinking the rear lights. I just need a set that's not obnoxious. Thanks for always watching!
You have quadra drive, like me I think? Rear wheel drive until slippage, then front wheels engage...technically 4x4... you want to make sure front drive shaft is spinning...if front end up off ground, spin a wheel...the other wheel will turn opposite direction a revolution or so then engaging with front diff, both spin same direction... or have Kelly watch you do a burnout on gravel to see if all 4 wheels engage...there are a few diff ways to check...you know what your doing...my last tip will be tires...Tires! All comes down to grip and ability to release water, mud, snow...peace
Great video. I think the link to the rack is not the one that you installed. Your rack has 8 horizontal bars (not counting the end bars) and the one in the link has 11 horizonal bars. I believe the rack in the link is longer than yours. Can you confirm if what I stated is true. I like your rack and want to buy it, but want to confirm if yours is shorter than the one in the link. Is it possible that you can measure the length of your rack from front to back and let me know ? Also does the mounting hardware come with the rack or do you need to order it separately ? P.s. When we get Internet back from the hurricane I will check, but I'm pretty sure I used the same part number that's listed. If you use Amazon vehicle info it should tell you if it fits or not. The pics are not always accurate.
Nice rack! I installed a rack on my Commander and like you say on the crossbars, a rack would look too high above the roof. This rack looks better but I think it still looks too high above the roof. I am planning to use my original cross bars and bolt them directly onto the rails and then install the rack. Keep up making the great Videos!
Although I'm really happy with the Smittybilt rack, I do wish it was even lower. I have seen some low profile platforms that look cool. Good luck with your Commander and thanks for watching!

Dude the CC looks money! I know you dislike light bars but one on the rear of the rack at an angle to F off tailgating dipsticks would be badass! The CC is coming out straight fire, the spot lights and exhaust should compliment it perfectly and as for next week, I see two intros no1 Kelly pulls up on a freshly sprayed shiny Miata or 2...surprise surprise we sold the Miata! I'll be watching either way, cheers guys!

There is another one, but I forget the name. It's more expensive than the Smittybilt. Just search on google for JC roof basket. Good luck.

The Gazelle tent is a ground tent, isn't it? You wouldn't put it on the roof rack.

Came back to look at those brackets to put on a Rhino Rack and if they would work to mount it. Finally got the lift done, long wait for the kit.
I have the exact rack. Next mod for you: Install an awning, The width of the rack is perfect to mount one.
