    I have significant hearing loss and I knew right away she was deaf. It's an "invisible disability", as my audiologist calls it, especially if I don't wear my hearing instruments. I appreciate the awareness this short film no doubt has raised. Nicely done! :)

    This touched my soul in a very meaningful way. This short clearly shows we’re ALL far from being perfect: no matter white, black, man, woman… it depicts how easily we can misunderstand others. Even if we have a perfect appearance on the outside, that doesn’t mean we’re free of imperfections. That lady had such a big heart out of guilt by leaving him the drawing… and mark my words: if I was him, I wouldn’t stop until finding her to say how sorry I am for this. Even though it’s scripted, I put myself on her shoes, and imagine the helplessness and suffering she felt when he unknowingly lashed out at her.
    God bless those who suffer in silence and can’t express themselves.

    • @smerchly
      @smerchly 10 месяцев назад +1

      But she could not hear him lashing out ? He made an honest mis-take on her as he thought she may not like black people , They are both good people and a little lesson was learned ...

      genjutsu... its not just you my friend. I'm constantly telling people to repeat themselves. you'd think after my 3rd "you need to speak up, I can't hear you" the morons would figure it out. but deafness isn't a part of most people's everyday experience. its not essential that every one knows. but it is essential that every one learns; like you. i'm sure the girl you met experienced that a lot and understood. but its much more common for people to be offended by my not hearing them than I am from their anger at me from asking them to speak up.

    People are not obligated to engage with strangers. And even if someone is not deaf, or blind, maybe they're thinking of their own challenges or goals and don't want to engage with anybody. If you really must barge in on a person's "me time," offer a smile and if they make eye contact and smile back, you've broken the ice.

    • @person8834
      @person8834 11 месяцев назад +7

      To be honest, it’s still smart to verbally let them know this, like saying “I’m not in the mood for conversation”. People aren’t mind readers and aren’t always aware of nonverbal social cues. It takes two seconds to communicate this.
      Afterwards, you can ignore them all you want because they now definitely know. It’s more productive to actually use your words.

  • @atlantic_love
    @atlantic_love 7 месяцев назад +8

    This one hit home for me. I'm severely hearing impaired, and have been told by different people that "so and so thought you were ignoring them or being rude, and I told them she-can't-hear-you".

    People always thought I was shy. I sat alone, didn't initiate conversations, etc. truth is, I don't want to annoy people. I don't want to suddenly sit with people who hated me and I had no idea. I didn't want to talk to someone who doesn't want to be talked to. People don't tell me if they don't like me, so I assume they don't. But, if someone sits with me, starts a conversation with me, I won't shut up. When people invite me to sit with them, it's the best day ever.

      Whenever I'm on youtube on mobile, I have to keep scrolling down the comments, until I hit a spot that's just right, then hit reply and type random letters(usually just "Hh", i don't send it, I just type it) then I literally just leave the screen there while the video plays. Sometimes I'm too busy scrolling down the comments until the screen looks right that I forget to focus on the video and I end up having to replay it all over again. When I'm watching youtube on computer, I have to move the cursor at the top right corner, or the sides at the right spot. Then I have to move it again later just to make sure I know where it is, then I have to move it back to the corner of the laptop and just ughh 😂 😂

    I have met so many beautiful young women in Russia and Ukraine, either deaf or blind. It is sad, but very inspiring all the same, because in spite of their disability they (most of whom are my good friends) strive to do better to improve their lives. I co-volunteered with one girl at an orphanage in Russia, she was deaf, but she was there, bright and early on every weekend. Very admirable don't you think!

    I judged too quickly on another girl before. I thought she was popular, trust fund baby, the "it" girl, confident; but when she failed embarrassingly at a class project, I reached out to her. Turned out she is so self-conscious, lost her mom at a young age, struggles with an overly controlling brother and she works hard working fast food every day. The girl I judged ended up becoming one of my best friends when I gave her the benefit of my own doubt.
    Don't judge people too quickly. You never know when the person you judge is the person you need in your life.

    Others have commented about the video's weaknesses, which I noticed as well, but the basic plot rings true. I was teaching some kids who came from rough families. They were behaving pretty well, but one kid refused to listen to me even after I spoke harshly to him and put him in a corner of the room. The other kids noticed his behavior and were like, why is he being so bad?
    After class I found out from the leader of the event that the boy was deaf. I had no idea, and it made me feel a lot like the guy in this video.

    My first thoughts were that the young woman was ignoring the young man and then I realized that the young woman was deaf. It pays to not get offended and I had thought that the man would have moved on and left after being ignored. Then after being spoken to and not looking up I had realized she was deaf. This is a thoughtful short film.

      there is a neat trick in "folding" your headphones so they dont tangle as much.... (sorry for bad english its not my native) -> if you "wrap" (fold....) them from earplug side towards the "jack" (part that goes in your mp3-4, phone, etc) they tend to tangle less than usual, at least that is my expirience. i hold earplugs with my thumb and wrap the rest around my fingers gently, later you just check that "jack" part is not pulled trough any loop, hold it between fingers and drop the rest to unfold, 8 out of 10 times not tangled.....

      In a lot of small towns people can still leave things unguarded but it's not an issue of "values" these days. It's a matter of the likelihood that the thief could be seen by a mutual acquaintance of the owner. Either that, or the owner, not having far to go in a small town, will likely return sooner than in a big city.

    I met deaf girl in the transport it was when I have been a student at that time. We were just a girl and me of course a driver. She looked at me like flirting but I didn't know she is deaf. She was so pretty 😍 and for now I am remembering and wishing all the best for her

      Well, you had the advantage of knowing that it was a short film, that must have some meaning. In real life it's a little harder, because tbh I've had a bunch of situations with people not replying in my life where I knew they were perfectly capable of hearing

      ***** nah m8 he went running twice I was talking about the first time. 0:10 shes drawing. 0:45 guy sets off. 1:05 he gets back and it shows her drawing again and its the same picture and shes made no progress.

      as an artist i can say drawing isnt as easy as it looks
      sometimes u gotta restart or scrap ur idea
      or erase mistakes
      she may not have made progress to you but maybe she had a certain idea in mind
      drawing take patience and a steady hand
      not every artist can make a masterpeice in 30 minutes
      we all have our own pace
