I’ll be 23 this year and I still haven’t been able to fully quit. we can do it, it’s just fucking difficult. and honestly it’s hard to be taken seriously when trying to talk about it to others. people tend to undermine how addictive it can be for some people

I quit drinking a little over a year ago after many years of living terribly but also like I'd never die. Quitting is the best thing I've ever done, and I think it's rad you're doing this. I think you'll be surprised how much better you will feel physically when you're off the stuff a while, but what I've really had to sit with is having my mind back. I don't know if it'll be the same for you, but I started to become aware of thoughts and excuses and batshit reasoning I lived with for years so I could be ok with drinking all of the time and it seem totally normal. When you get your mind back, you start to see things in the past with new eyes, and it's a lot to deal with. I hope you have and get all the support you need and deserve. Thanks for the fantastic music and for being public with your choice to get sober. You can do it and I can't wait to see what you do from here!

I got seroquel in the mental hospital. It made my dreams crazy but definitely chilled me out so I didn’t want to an hero for a few days. I remember this one dream where two clowns were trying to sell me a piano through pantomime. The keys looked like little mustard and ketchup bottles. They wouldn’t actually touch the piano so I investigated closely and saw that there were little holes in the keys that would spray the player with condiments if they held down any keys. I told the clowns to f*ck off and that I saw through their bullshit, then I woke up laughing. Very fun stuff.

Man, that past bit on music with Nick Drake as an example really resonated. I soooo appreciated Danny leaning heavy into what he was hearing on atrocity exhibition. That felt like the fork in the road where he could have gone for something palatable and business minded or he could listen to what he hears. It was and is a really special album for that reason and will only age better with time. I could see it garnering Nick Drake type treatment down the line.
