We want more HOW-TO videos during this quarantine period from masters in cinematography like you Lee. Great video and explanation.
Emilio Takas Thanks Emilio. I’ll be doing a bunch more of these
@@LeeZavitz Can't wait to check them out!
Man, you have so much to offer. I love the series already. Can't wait for the next one!
This is amazing, thanks for sharing! Too many people just show how to light their RUclips videos but this is much more real-life applicable!
The concept of the music video is awesome and that model is simply gorgeous!
I really appreciate when I see someone take lighting seriously. Thanks man.
Nice breakdown!! Thank you so much for sharing these
that finger nail shot was next level. good job
Loved this video! Keep this series going Dude!!!
Science of the Art! A brilliant video, thanks for posting. Liked and subscribed.
Man, you guys do such high quality work its insane. Great video
This was extraordinary!
This was an awesome detailed (but still quick) walkthrough of lighting/filming for a pro music video! The only critique I have is to have an easy link to the actual music video on youtube. I went there and watched it...great work. Thanks for doing this video!!! Very informative.
wonderful stuff man, thanks for sharing. these are some gorgeous frames.
Wow that was really informative and there’s a lot there to absorb. Also I really like the step by step info of the light placement . Thanks for sharing. Looking to the next one.
This is the best video I have seen on this subject. Well done.
The attention to detail is amazing!
Most of your videos are great but this is the best one ever! More of this please ❤️
Isaac Insoll Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I have no idea what people want to see. So I’m trying new stuff.
WOW. I just watched 30 seconds of this video and subbed !!! I am very disappointed in the videos that RUclips suggests regarding filmmaking and camera gear. Once I started blocking the PotatoJets and the Peter Mckinnon's from my suggested feed NOW I'm getting real information that I can use, not ads that say they are not ads for gear I don't need. Thank you for all the effort in putting this together!
I owe you a beer!
This was super informative. Keep them coming!
Thanks!
Wow this is so helpful. Thanks so much for sharing man
That was super insightful man. The right amount of info to not be boring and still be valuable. 🤘🏼 Well done Sir!
Cool! Love the insight.
Learned a TON. awesome video. moremoremore
Awesome breakdown!
fire!. learned a lot bro!
This is what I like to see 🔥
Wow. Very pro. I’m inspired. I don’t shoot music videos but I’m going to be helping out a friends band make their first one. Thanks for the insight 🙏🏾.
This was helpful...thought got some photography inspiration from the breakdown tho' 😄...thnks Lee..
You did a sick job of that!
Woow dude what a awsome rig!!
So awesome. More of these!!!
very nice man i liked!
I just turned all my post notifications on, you’re giving out so much quality content
Dude, one of the best tutorial.s Thanks man! Please consider doing a tutorial on using flags, how to know how much to charge or how to charge at all including using contracts. And please continue making excellent lighting videos like these. Subscribed.
need more of these ‼️‼️
This was excellent! Well done.
Bro! I subscribed so fast to your channel! This is so brilliant! Any tips or tutorials on how you colored this?
So dope man, more of these for sure 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
camtheman yeah man I’m going to do a bunch.
That was an awesome video!
HI,My Friend Lee Its Nice video Your a Perfect film maker Was watching your lighting up Great Presence and Great emossion
True Professional film maker Like.Great man .God bless You I am a beginner I have Panasonic Gh5 and 12-35 2.8 Lens
I need to learn so many things from you . Thank You Lee.
Fire! Thanks for sharing
you are great man! thanks
I'm an Indian Music Video director & I find similarities in our works...I use Canon EOS M50 & Weebill S combination the most. Your works are awesome man...
That was really informative. Lighting is so intimidating. You make it look really easy.
Nicholas LeTarte thanks! The hardest part and most intimidating thing is having to light stuff on the fly with limited shoot time.
Lee Zavitz well you seem to work well under pressure 😂 If they hired me ( which they wouldn’t as I’m just a high school teacher who likes making videos) I’d just tell them, “Look, everyone’s sittin by a window!”
Liked it so much that I subscribed... 😎👍
awesome video!!
Thanks for the time, very interesting video !
Great video. And i want that tee haha
Really dope video bro! What was your shutter on the scenes of her lighting the cigarette?
Love it mate. This format is a fantastic way to illustrate the motivating sources on your subject. LOVE it, I want an ipad pro just to be able to do this. ONE day.
More stuff like this dude, insanely valuable.
Thanks bro. I need to find a better app to do this stuff. I just used built in screen shot and mark up. But there has to be an app that can do markup overtop of video
@@LeeZavitz MUST be an app for that.
What app are you using to actually record the screen? I’ve used the built in iOS screen recorder but it was choppy. Maybe it was the frame rate or something. I don’t know. 🤦🏽♂️
Dope!
Why have I never seen your channel? It's the best I've seen
Appreciate it 👍🏼
Awesome!!!
AWESOME
Wish to get a bit more explanation on the usage of some of the light but overall it's pretty interesting.
Very nice video thanks a lot man
Do you do master classes?? I'm looking for it
Kinds
Great video. Subbed, please do more of these
I’ve done 3 now
In the bedroom scene did you set you key light to 5600k or 3200k?
Can I get a link to the music video itself ?
Thanks
i need that shirt right now.
What light stands and boom arms did you use for the Falcon eyes light?
I use Kupo CStands I think the arm is called avenger d600
This was really informative, thanks. What did you use for the green light in the bathroom?
The light was just a small light mat. But the actual bathroom was all green tile so it looked green
@@LeeZavitz Ohhh okay, cool. Thank you!
Awesome breakdown! Are you using the sdi mount for the atomos ninja v and getting a waveform readout to the monitor with the c200?
No I don’t typically use the ninjaV it’s kind of overkill as a monitor and rips through batteries because of the fan. I have the shinobi sdi I use with my c200
@@LeeZavitz Nice man, thanks for the reply. No heating issues with the shinobi?
so the key light in the bedroom scene was it set at 5200k appear as light coming from the window
No wasn’t suppose to look like light from the window because it was dark. More of just an overhead room light
Hi @leezavitz. the light mats you use. Are these Westcott? or Falcon eyes? thanks
Litegear
Lee, the one question i have is what are you setting the white balance at?
Im just getting into using practical lighting and notice warmth of the lamps and the cool from the "TV" or key light.
This series is awesome. Thanks for the time and effort to help us all.
I have no idea what I set it at. I usually leave it at around 4700-5000k . I usually shoot RAW so it matters a lot less because you can change it in post. It would really only be for playback at the set WB. One rule I kind of have is to typically watch that skin tones to set the white balance
@@LeeZavitz Thanks for the reply. I know Raw is best but Im not there yet. Shooting Sony's at work and my Fuji x-T3 for personal use so I know getting it close in camera is best for my workflow as on now.
Awesome! Xt3 is great. Yeah I typically don’t use a white card or grey card to set white balance. But that is the technical proper way to set white balance.
@@LeeZavitz the fuji is awesome. Have had my x100s for travel since it came out. finally broke down and bought an update.
What really has interested me is the RGB bulbs you can change with your phone. Seems like a greta way to light for your subject and adjust the practicals so they are not too orange or other when not shooting Raw.
Are u recording the perfomance shots with AF? Can u tell me with which settings? Because im new from sony to canon and i dont know how to work with this AF ...
Sebastian Mark No I never use autofocus on big shoots. I always have an AC Pulling focus wirelessly or I manually focus. Autofocus is inconsistent and can ruin the shot. It’s also makes it hard to be creative with the shot. I do use autofocus on interviews or talking head stuff though. It works well for that
@@LeeZavitz ah okay!
Can u do a video about how u set up your c200 on different setups? like on your ronin or documentary? i got problems with my canon c200 on the ronin currently ..
Sebastian Mark the Ronin M is maxed out with the c200. I’m also using a c200b but It really just depends on what lenses you use and counter weights. But I just started using a set of vintage contax zeiss primes I modded that are small and light and work perfect on the Ronin M.
@@LeeZavitz Ah okay thank you very much! because i normally use a ronin s but it doessnt work well with the c200 .. so i bought a ronin 1 with extended arms but the motor doesnt work ...
Sebastian Mark ah that sucks. The Ronin 1 would handle it no problem. I’m not a fan of single handle gimbals like ronin S for heavy setups. It’s a bad design for all day use on set. I wish more companies would move away from the single handle design that advertises 8lbs and higher payload. And just make light weight dual handle gimbals that can handle that weight like the MoviPro
@@LeeZavitz yes i feellllll you! There are only the ronin 2 or movi pro with are both about $7.000 ... its sh'T ..
So i bought a ronin 1 with an easyrig for my canon 200
Rock ON
Where is "here"??
I have a couple of questions...Do you write out your lighting setups (diagrams) during the treatment phase or do you wait until you get the chance to go to the actual location and do you normally have stand ins in order to get accurate lighting? This is what I'm struggling to understand. Also, When you are shooting with one camera, do you take multiple takes of the close up (Macro) and the med close up? Ex: her smoking the cigarette. So when she's smoking do you have two separate cigarette takes to get the different focal length shots? Hope that makes sense...Thanks again for the BTS and breakdowns of these videos I really apreciate it. It has helped me alot!
So I will have a meeting with the director to figure out the vibe. And If there is time I usually do a tech scout with the producer and figure out lighting before the shoot day. Otherwise I just try and plan it out in my head. Yes multiple takes at different focal lengths. That’s why it takes so long to shoot stuff.
Who did the beauty work for the girl?
