While we were out writing for our upcoming album, we found a lovely field and thought to ourselves; 'a lovely field demands a lovely song!' So we sang the most lovely song we knew. Pleasant and delightful is a Traditional song from the UK and great to sing with a large group.

sick shirt.
Right when I saw JD’s shirt, I started scrolling to see if y’all were down here. Glad to see you have good taste in music! 😆
Wanted to say the same
Ey corridor! You guys should team up with these guys to make a music video, it would be interesting to see them and you guys singing like a crew during a war
Never thought to see u here
You guys have a great taste in music. A collab would be pretty neat
well how lovely! delightful on the eyes and the ears, the yellow fields combined with robbie's jumper make me very happy
This is now the soundtrack to my morning today 👌👌👌
Ohh the king is here himself!! ^^
This is the crossover we need.
Awesome to see you here. Your bass is thunderous man!
@@ranamar8858 Don't threaten me with a good time!
Gosh this is so pretty, both musically and aesthetically. Also Robbie's outfit slaps. I want his sweater.

Me and the boys flexing our pollen immunity
I've been listening to this song for two years now and my throat still keeps lumping up, stopping me from singing this the whole way through. Such sweet, sweet sorrow
This song really hit home with me. It's been 20 years since my father William was taken from my mother Nancy. Such a bittersweet coincidence.
My name is Nancy and I have been married to William for 46 years.
And the sharks they played melodeons, and the shaaaaaarks they played melodeons
Great, now I'm wandering around my house singing about sharks and melodeons ... Thank you! 🤣
@@fionasutherland9755 pretty sure I've heard a version where the soldier and the girl drown themselves rather than be separated, and the final chorus is and the sharks they played melodeons at the bottom of the bay
So this isn't really relevant but I wanna put it here to fuel the algorithm. Anyway recently I've taken up the task of befriending the crows in my backyard. They're quite lovely creatures yah know.
Cool
I’ve always wanted to befriend crows!
Crows are so beautiful, that’s awesome :)
You know what you call a pair of crows, right?
An attempted murder! :D
Whenever i see crows i feel like Odin is watching me
These boys are simultaneously bringing back the sea shanty and the barbershop quartet. Well done.
I think these guys are great, but take a look at Coda
I el llom del diplodocus, i el llom del diplodocus, i el llom del diplodocus i la crema de sol 🎶🎶
Now I have a sudden need to go out and sing shanties in a flower field on a stormy day
Can I join 😂
Me too please
honestly same :D
I would but the nearest field is wheat and I live in a desert so rain is hard to come by
Beautiful, thank you.
And thanks to Terry Pratchet who first introduced me to this song.
The hare runs into the fire. The fire, it loves her - she is not burned.
Robbie looks so sweet with that flower tucked behind his ear. Love the video and your voices, lads!
Longest Jonns have almost single handedly eternalised folk music
YOU STOLE MY PROFILE PIC!!
This masterpiece asks for a community project. It's absolutely beautiful, warm, melancholic, sad, happy and cozy all at the same time.
Spring time in England, the topic of poets for thousands of years
TLJ: We made this absolutely beautiful, sad, sweet piece and filmed a gorgeous scene to put this amazing video together for you guys.
The comments: ROBBIE’S SWEATER
There's a strong "Over the hills and far away" vibe to this melody. And, as always, your harmonizing is just awesome.
Had the same thought meself.
Pleasantly, delightfully adequate! October 10th!
God that field is picturesque.
I appreciate that you boys all turned up looking your prettiest.
What a Pleasant video this is! You could almost say it's Delightful!
Beautiful visuals!! I'm sure the deer liked the signing as well!
They did come over to investigate when we started
Pleasant and Delightful: The Longest Johns
It was pleasant and delightful on a mid-summer's morn' and the green fields and the meadows were covered in corn and the blackbirds and thrushes sang on ever-y green spray and the larks they sang melodious at the dawning of the day
And the larks they sang melodious 3x at the dawning of the day
Well a sailor and his true love were-a -walking one day said the sailor to his true love I am bound far away I am bound for the East Indies where the loud cannons roar I must go and leave you Nancy you're the girl that I adore
I must go and leave you Nancy (3x) you're the girl that I adore
Well the ring from off her finger she instantly drew saying take this dearest William and my heart will go too and as they stood embracing tears from her eye fell, saying: "May I go along with you?" "Oh no my love fare well!"
Saying: "May I go along with you ?" 3x "Oh no my love fare well!"
"Fare thee well my dearest Nancy! I can no longer stay. Fore the topsails are hoisted and the anchors aweigh and the ship she lies waiting for the fast flowing tide, and if ever I return again I will make you my bride!" "and if ever I return again (3x) I will make you my bride!"
I was trying to write this out in a way that makes the story in this ballad a bit easier to read while also writing the lyrics themselves
This story is about a sailor (William) and his girl (Nancy) this sailor is set to go to (war?) the East Indies and is unsure he will return alive and promising that should he make it back he will marry her I'm not entirely sure if he is serious but the tone of the song makes me believe so
for anyone wondering it took me 3 listens at .75 speed to get this all written out before I formatted it to be readable in any way
@@jplayzow uhm actually the lyrics are already on the TLJ fandom, you could've Just copied and pasted It and eventually fix some differences 😂😅
@@magicl3o the lyrics are everywhere the point of it was to try and do it myself so I could get a feel for the story
@@jplayzow Oh ok, that's cool, it can also help memorize them
William probably never returned home did he
That vibrato holy shit
The Corridor shirt?!?
Now there's a collab I didn't know I needed until now!
This is how you wake up on a Sunday. Long week, peaceful end
That roe deer is a sweetheart.
I've loved this song since I encountered it in "I Shall Wear Midnight", and this rendition is beautiful.
Where in the book is it ? It's been a while since I read it and I can't remember it at all.
@@ShiferUl It's mentioned a couple of times as being the Baron's favourite song, and Roland sings the first verse right near the end of the book.
Me too. And I agree that this is a beautiful rendition.
Knew I couldn’t be the only one.
The old Baron, in his final moments, reminisces about this song, along with the arc phrase "The hare runs into the fire. The fire loves her - she is not burned." When the baron's son starts drunkenly singing the song near the end, that's Tiffany's cue that now is the moment to stand and face the supernatural danger that's been chasing her all book.
"The world was, indeed, full of omens. You just had to pick the right ones."
I want it noted that EVERYONE's outfit slaps in this video. It's important to me that this is noted.
Agreed, I’m watching on a tiny phone screen and saving to watch again later so I can see better!
Lovely setting, lovely music, lovely outfits, lovely accessories (lovely flower spray!) and lovely people. Thank you!
Noted and agreed.
God it’s so beautiful, and that’s just Robbie 😂
This is amazing. You guys are the best, also loving the flowers Robbie. 👍👌
Adequate!👏 Adequate!👏 The tune reminded me of "over the hills" from Sharpe for some reason 🤔
Don't mind me, just a casual rat fueling the algorithm.
I feel bad for giving this a listen almost a week later. Amazing as always! :)
Soooo...yeah the new BF looks dope
Any Pratchett fans sitting here just weeping openly?
This is an absolute staple of folk camps evening song circle - such nostalgia for someone who grew up on classic, beautiful and joinable tunes such as these. Thank you for doing it such justice!
I love your music yall, i was quite sad in my life cuz it would be the last time i saw quite a few of my friends, but it was also just then when i started listening to yall, which gave me something to distract me that didnt remind me of my friends, yall are awsome, thank you for releasing this on the 1 year anniversary (roughly) of me starting to listen to yall, keep singing, ill keep listening.
Hope your getting along well now
Hope you're well
That sky.
the summer would be more beautiful, if i could get out of this quarantine
I’ll never miss the corridor digital shirt
I sing baritone in Imerys Mid Cornwall Male Choir and after rehearsals at St Dennis we went down the social for a pint and chat as per. I came down and some of the old boys were singing shanties and other lovely songs and this was one of them. It was so moving but I couldn't stop smiling. I'll remember it forever and I'm glad I've now found the song.

@@sianchild Eastern Time is 5 hours behind grenich, so 8 pm Eastern is midnight then next day in the uk
@@tylerrussellmusic1562 thanks. That's a shame.
I was wondering when you bully boys would do an official video of this song... Of course, it would have to be in June.
Did not expect to see a Corridor t-shirt. :D
I think it might be the flat lighting due to the clouds, but background of the wide shots makes it look like they've been greenscreened in xD
Oh my, but I enjoyed that! It's like being back amongst my (once) fellow Morris dancers for an evening's sing.
So after all this song not about a long-necked dinosaur which runs out of sunscreen in a sunny beach... 🦕🐴🍃
Stellar work and gorgeous setting, guys! ❤
I see that Corridor shirt, there, friend's. Keep up the good work
Please do "Don't Forget Your Old Shipmate", its my favorite shanty 😊
One of my favorite tunes!
One of the favourite folk songs, thanks!
"...and the birds got off on music...man, like all they did was sing!"
I appreciate the Corridor merch
this is indeed pleasant and delightful 13/10 would be delighted by these fine lads again
Pleasant and Delightful, by The Longest Johns, brought to you by Corridor Digital. Not exactly sponsored or anything, just a product placement of sorts.
Beautiful song, beautifully shot video
Wait, what?
@@calebmurphy9406 JD is wearing his Corridor Digital tee 😄
Never been happier to be one of the first to hear one of your songs, this is absolutely beautiful. Delightful if you will
I can't believe it's been three...
I looked up this song, having last heard it maybe 25 years ago at the "Teddington Folk Club", a weekly event at the The Angler's (I think) pub at Teddington Lock, Surrey. A chap sung this quite often, in an ironic way that always made us laugh - it puts a different perspective on the lyrics, that the sailor was professing true love, but not about to take her with him! "TFC" itself was an ironic title, as punters felt that was a grand title for a bunch of amateurs just getting together for a song and a laugh. Needless to say, I have a lot of nostalgia for that time.
This is my funeral song.
This was both pleasant, and delightful
I wonder how long oaafter filming that raincloud hit them XD
Some of the drone shots were definitely filmed in the rain
This type of songs is truly the ones I like.
This feels like they're somehow green-screening themselves into a field! It's so beautifully unreal o_o
Love this song it's sad but truly a delightful song to sing to your true love 💕💕
this song is so pleasant and delightful
The field looks almost surreal, it's so pretty! The singing is amazing too, as always. Love it!
Now who would have thought it would be Pleasant & Delightful singing in a field on oil seed rape, but it is. Well done on the singing, filming & editing.
Yes, oilseed rape makes me sneeze and I prefer a proper meadow, but the singing was superb so it really doesn't matter!
I knew if I scrolled the comments long enough I would find out what was growing in that field. I could tell it was a brassica but I've never seen a rapeseed field before (not many of them in the US) and didn't know what it was! Thanks ^.^
@@AmandaKahl yes, I'm afraid that field is probably a monoculture with not a lot of wildlife value but it looks good on film and I totally see why the production company chose it.
@@AmandaKahl we usually call it canola here in North America. I live in grain and oil seed country in Canada. Feel what you may about the crop, the combination of electric yellow against a pure blue (or even better, a steel grey-about-to-storm) is quite beautiful and is a common photo shoot setting for weddings here.
Going to the Navy, i feel this song a little too much lol
When all that I hold dear seems under threat, and the world gets weirder and scarier, I come to this channel to listen to four chaps from Brissle and all seems much better. This song shows that 'pleasant and delightful' still exists and there is beauty in the world (even if the song is sad). Although I have to say that Robbie's jumper sleeves are causing consternation.
This seems a bit more like a hymn about a sailor rather than a shanty but I'm NOT complaining
Great stuff. Sucks to the troll who gave it a thumbs down!
Another song beautifully sung! Very adequate 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Lol gosh darnit robbie, idk why but your antics always make me laugh 😅 thank you lads for spreading this cheer for us, can't wait for your next album
This song makes me want to cry but it's not exactly sad or happy. It's just, a mood, I guess
Bittersweet is what you’re looking for
Y'all gotta come to portland. This place would love you.
Beautiful harmonies and canola field!
Oh yes 😁
I hope you put these new songs on Spotify! I'm dying to play Mary Ellen Carter on there too!
I like the Corrdior shirt lol
Great music as always! Beautiful video. ^^
Love seeing JD wearing his Corridor channel shirt!
Great song but I could feel my hayfever kicking in just watching the video
This just injected serotonin straight up into my brain, thanks guys :)
…….and the sharks they played melodions at the bottom of the bay……
Seriously though, beautifully sung!
The song is amazing
Still Waiting for The Corridor Crew Collab Video

You all did such a wonderful job!
Love it. My group sings that and we all love it.
loved it, would love to see you guys live one day!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
Always beautiful, lads. Thank you for keeping traditional music and sea shanties alive and well! Would love to hear you do 'Fiddler's Green' one day. All the best!
beautiful song and melody lads.
This one is one of my favorites. Damn this is top tier
This really reminds me of 'Thousands Or More'. Especially the melodies and repetition in the chorus. It's truly a very sweet song. 'Thousands Or More' is a favorite, too. Is this something you grow up hearing as children in the UK? I'm just curious because I'm American and I'd never heard it before hearing the Johns sing it.
fantastic tune done MOST adequately, lads! Love the way this was shot, that flower-field seems quite serene!
7 people did not find this pleasant and delightful
Yay!
Wonderful song :)
Congrats! You keep raising the bar. Simply beautiful! Thank you again.
