@Rashun - Missing the point, bruh. This was Kool & the Gang's Summer Madness. This song was a staple in every family reunion, date night, backyard BBQ, etc. during it's time. For some people, this is still the Black Folk Summer Anthem.
You just cant do wrong by this song which is why when corny Will Smith got his hands on it for Summer Time, it became an instant summer classic. Song is over 25 years old and you are still guaranteed to hear at least once every summer on the radio. The song itself has its own Wiki page.
I just don't see Mila J's version being that new summer hood banger. Summer Madness was a waste on this song because "getting high like back in the day" can be any day, any time of the year. So mad props to the Producer of this beat but i think a much better artist could have done more justice to it. I didn't even know who Mila J was until I heard this and after listening to the lyrics, the immediate first thing I did was search for the instrumental.
I'm not from Cali but can tell that from the song's VEVO page that much of the props are from people that either (A) love the beat or (B) know of her from Cali. Guessing she's not mainstream but this joint could have put her there but it fell flat.
