- Greyhound betting markets behave differently to many other sports. Not in the sense they bet any different, but because of their makeup. You just can't expect them to trade the same...
In this question about greyhound betting, getting the price you want and racing post tv Caan makes a few logical points. So if you're interested in how to bet on the greyhounds successfully, this clips a good sit!

Soo is it better too just back the favourites in Graded racing???Becaise it seems soo hard too find winners based on times and Form!!
You're absolutely right it's bent, but I just see that as opportunity. You're never going to derive much of an edge from the form of greyhounds, that's all well known and factored into the market. So you can only really get an edge by following the markets themselves... the rather illegitimate nature of greyhound racing means there are lots of gambles set up.
Very true. My mother was a leading Aussie trainer and as a kid growing up I remember calls taken to pull up our dogs, mum drugging dogs, asking me to take the dog for a walk all day. Then there was the fresh blooding with possums and rabbits. In my experience it was totally dodgy.
that does sound extremely dodgy.
so she would put the edge on other dogs in the same race by drugging or tiring her own dog.
I presume she would get money by doing this also ?
Blooding still goes on. They have really clamped down on it but certainly you’d have those old school trainers that swear by it.
So what was her name.
to imply greyhound racing is bent is usually comes from a person who knows nothing about what they are looking at , so they become traders [otherwise known as ponces ] learn about what you are betting on and refrain from crying foul because your ability to win on betting greyhounds is a failure
Not at all Terence. I know what I'm looking at in the markets, and Greyhound racing is as bent as it comes. I win plenty on Greyhounds thanks... because of this activity.
@@CaanBerryProTrader Thanks for the reply . I am not seeking a war of words with yourself . You seem adamant that greyhound racing is bent , so hopefully you have strong evidence to substantiate your claims ( I really hope you have ) , I suggest you pass this information on to the relevant authorities, so we can rid the sport of greyhound racing of these cheats . Keep well , keep safe everybody , all always remember please ALL LIVES MATTER
@@CaanBerryProTrader What are you looking at in the markets Caan that makes GH racing as bent as it comes? I understand what you are insinuating but where is your actual proof? I am not having a dig, but you are making outlandish claims based on what? What you see in the markets... On your computer screen? Come on, every sport has been shown to be bent at one stage or another and because the price action you see in market doesn't make GH racing any less bent than lower class horses. As you say, the (mostly little) volume comes in seconds before the off, but this is still a sports betting market... Feels like a waste of time writing this now because if you did have proof you would have put it in your video. Good luck ;)
Money is your answer. Happens frequently on the dogs... final minute to post and 90% of the money comes on one dog at any price, then you watch the race and the dog falls out the traps last, gets a bad turn, goes wide, and still wins by 8 lengths... does that answer enough?
@@CaanBerryProTrader How does it still win after falling out the traps and come from behind??
Thank you. I was about to jump into my first race. Then I thought to do some R&D and found this gold video.
Whilst the profit margins might be smaller on greyhound betting it is compensated by being able to get in more volume, there are more greyhound opportunities on a daily basis than any other sport. I've been crushing greyhound betting on Betdaq for about 3 months now with a mix of lay and back bets.
Unfortunately Betdaq now stop winners... caanberry.com/betdaq-ban-winners/
Great explanations. I gave up greyhound racing years ago for two reasons. Firstly I found it too much like a lottery and I couldn't crack the method to consistently win as I do on horses. The second reason is I found out many dogs are killed when they can't race anymore and that just upset me, so I just decided not bet on dogs again.
And what do you think happens to the horses that aren't good enough?
@@Pmull04 Great answer! Hat up...
and how do you "win consistently" on horses?
@@Pmull04 yeah but horse market has way more money so it's easy for him to pretend like a moral God because greyhound does not affect his money.
@@Pmull04 tescos buys them
After not having a great day on the horses today (77p profit lol), out of sheer desperation of the want to carry on trading (which I know is a rather foolish concept), I got stuck into the evening of a Sunday greyhound card and was quite pleasantly suprised to be making an average of 30p or so per race using £3 stakes. Just had one major blip when I failed to hedge before the start of a race which took a big chunk of my profit (the dog got headed on the line GUTTED lol), but I'm not too disheartened by this as I know it was an avoidable mistake. I'm just a newbie with a small starting bank and am pretty encouraged by this outcome. I just made sure to only trade the first/second favs where there's most liquidity and I really relished the quick-fire style of dog trading. I'd love to be able to refine my technique and use higher stakes as my bank grows. There appears to be so much potential despite the lower liquidity due to the sheer volume of races per day. Will probably comment further here in the coming days or weeks on this topic.
Aaaannnnnndd it’s gone.
Pure gold, man! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoy greyhounds and bet on them quite a bit but just looking at P/L compared to horse racing think I need to stop or small stakes
Greyhound racing is no more bent than you are.
I liked betting horses till I started on the dogs. Just dipped my toe or 'paw' in hmmmm sorry sorry lol. Started getting it right from the off and I'm just using my phone and an Betting shop app. No software or anything. Love it now. Ponies have been shafting me left right and centre. William from Glasgow. Cheers dude luv your stuff.
Why is the Smarkets market so poor on the dogs? Betfair it forms earliest, not too bad on matchbook, but smarkets there's often what seems just a few actual trades on many races.
Hello dear
What other Exchange can i use to start 'Betfair trading' if I can't use Betfair due previously self excluding myself from there.
Thanks.
Caan Berry I was young and stupid back then and very little discipline.
Would love to get into the trading game, whether it be forex or Betfair trading.. I'm discovering the possibilities at the minute.
I think caan is right here, in my experience even if it was 'years ago' you will struggle to be successful at trading. The ability to maintain composure through the inevitable ups and downs and stay completely focused and impartial and the ability to take losses without chasing are absolutely imperative fundamentally and not everyone has this mindset or ability. I think those prone to compulsion to such an extent they have to self exclude are generally not going to have what it takes. Remember most traders in general fail. You're probably better off staying away from betting or trading.
Lol I just made money yesterday night with no such info... I guess sometimes gambling is all about luck.. Works for me
Sr kindly tell me is greyhound or horse races are fake or unfair or these races are true
I have never seen so many ridiculous comments in all my life they shoot greyhounds are all u mad out there the greyhound industry as never been as straight as it is now and greyhounds are so well looked after all of his shooting dogs is utter garbage.caan normally I agree with most you say in the past with other sports but I'm afraid inside info is not the answer it's people like me who fortunately have the time to watch videos either through William hill tv or betting shops watching or what I am on this Thursday evening on rpgtv of course there are goings on with prices but that is where watching greyhound racing on the services that I have given can give you a massive edge dogs are carbon copy's the grader just reverses the trap draw around to add confusion to selecting a dog in a race. there is fiddling going on with trainers that's all old hat and everyone needs to get that out of there brain the trap draw is Massive in greyhound racing and so many other things that would take to long for me to explain but as I said I'm on rpgtv on Thursday evening 6 pm to 9.20 pm please send me e.mails and I will answer all your questions and then you will see and understand greyhound racing in a Better light sorry caan inside info is done by professional video watchers that's sadly the point you missed on here so by watching videos you can be profitable by doing this I've been in the greyhound game all my life tic tac bookmaker odds compiler etc please anyone e.mail in on Thursday and all we be made clear thanks for reading from gary mehegan
Some very extreme ones here, agreed.
You are absolutely right I own 2 greyhounds one being Kilmore Lemon and I have been in racing kennels they are better looked after than you or I!
Spot on that Greyhound Betting is as bent as a butchers hook. I'd regularly back all 3 dogs in a race usually the 3rd 4th and 5th ranked ones and backing on the exchange at 50% bigger than the high Street prices . So mathematically speaking I had the edge. Yet over a 1000+ races over 2 yrs I lost a few grand. Fair enough I have no knowledge but you shouldn't need it when you can crunch the numbers.
Hi.
Would you back them as single win bets or???
This may sound ridiculously easy - but since the initial question mentioned racingposttv - I made a big chunk of my profits by simply backing (or laying when appropriate) what the pundits on that channel said to bet and laid off for a few ticks profit. It's not always a foolproof method but over the long run I made far more than I lost.
It shouldn't have been that easy but for so long it really was and couldn't believe the market continued to deliver on such a simple tactic.
I've not watched RPGTV now for more than 6 months so can't say whether it still works, but I suspect so, though there are some obvious pointers to when it will work more often than not.
It's not particularly the most interesting tactic but while it was making a good share of my profits I wasn't so bothered about that. Like you said towards the end of the video regarding greyhounds profits particularly, it's about patience.
But it was frankly weird how such a simple tactic proved so fruitful over a continued period of time. Once I'd worked out what I was doing (though I could say the same about trading full stop), I was just in the groove. At one point I didn't post a daily loss on the greyhounds in 18 months.
I have to say I had to scale back the stakes to keep it going and that's when patience was harder to bare with. I haven't continued for a while for various reasons, but one was either football or evening horse racing just became more profitable for me and for the sake of catching 1 or 2 late races it wasn't worth it. But if you can multi-task then the potential is there.
There always 3 pundits with an opinion so its gna be down too luck which 1 will pick the winner.
Hello Caan very informative as usual, I think you should do a competition to win one of your Betfair books that you have just written, What about How much money you have collected in your little box by your computer that has got the old inhaler in ok. Now I will go first, I reckon that you have got, hang on let me just have a quick look.
I trade gh mkts full time and there's loads in here I disagree with. Feels like you've tried to answer this question just because you received the question and your brain filled in a lot of blanks when doing so. Viewers should be aware Caan's information in this video is only one perspective of these markets and whilst I won't call his views incorrect I will say there are alternative perspectives out there. I mention this because your expectations in a market heavily influence your results long-term. If you're thinking a race is "bent" and that you can't expect to get filled at the price you want you're miles behind someone with equal skill who goes in with an open mind.
@@CaanBerryProTrader Nowhere did I say racing isn't bent Chuck. All sport and even business is to a degree. It's about what the trader BELIEVES and how that influences their decision making. The fact is a trader will never know absolutely the only relevant information is what the money is doing in the market. I've traded like 30k dog races mate and I've seen NUMEROUS times where a dog drifts from Racing Post opening price of around EVENS to 8/1 and higher only to go and win. Same with dogs steaming uncontrollably and going to lose. But again that's all IRRELEVANT to the trader who should only be trading based on what the money is doing in the market. Otherwise you might as well just be another mug gambler straight betting based on steamers and drifters and good luck with being consistently profitable every day doing that.
Seeing something drift or steam and going "they know !!!" is not going to help you as a trader for cases where the price starts to reverse you're always going to think it's only a pullback and before you know it you're staring at a massive loss.
Ok I see a few notes in there as well as some Copper i reckon about 46pounds 57pence, if Iam the winner or close can you please inform me on my comment. I am going to the pub now see you later..........
Are you talking about betting or trading here? If trading, what does value matter?
They both create profits from the same thing, value. People seem to think that because they have different names they are far apart - they're not.
there is not really enough liquid in the greyhound markets to trade, you need to either back or lay very rarely will you get both matched with a trading strategy.
Paddy P doesn't like trading. Unless it's his traders that are doing it. So watch for him moving the market away from your trade out position.
Hello Caan, I have a question and i thought You the one could answer it !
I was looking at timeform results page, especially interested in BSP. Some of the greyhounds's BSP were like 27.65 for example. Is there any way to check how much money could be matched at that paricular BSP price ? Thanks.
Timeform shows historical BSP. Unless you want to by Betfair data... you will get volumes then I think.
@@CaanBerryProTrader will have to look at volumes, some courses, over 5000 races checked, could provide significant profit, purely backing dog at highest BSP...
And once its won a race will be up graded and dogs rarley win that next race,,..soo non of it makes sense at all....correct me if im wrong sombody!
I am actually very successful with greyhound betting. Although greyhounds are the one thing I have a bet on without really using maths. I just enjoy it. I always take a small percentage of my winnings and gamble it on things that aren’t EV based. I go in with the full intention of losing it with the goal of balancing out my account statistics so I don’t get banned as easy. That being said I very frequently will take the $20-$50 I begin with and finish up a couple hour session X10 to X20 ahead. My actual main tactic is to find the two that I fancy then pick the one I think will win and place my bet on the other one.😂😂 I find UK dogs much harder I prefer Aussie way with the lure on the inside rail rather than the UK way with the lure outside rail. Aussie way seems to get worse ballbreaking checks but the UK way seems to have more of the fastest dog losing due to track coverage.
How could you earn that much? I lost 40,000$ in 2 years
Hello dear
I completely agree with how bent it is. I get a call maybe once every month with a sure thing.. and 90
Percent of the time they win.. however. These dogs are getting smashed in from say 4/1 into 10/11 fav. So these people chucking the tip. Are backing at 4s and laying at 10/11 and making money no matter what!
Would there be any point in backing and laying same dog though???
If thats what you ment!?
Sir grayhound tip app name
I need account to join i belong from Pakistan
Sir which number is good for greyhound to win say about greyhound tricks...
I actually find greyhound betting rather good well for the average person places normally bets that is and who's not trying to win big on the 1 dog I've had alot more luck on the greyhounds and iff u look at the results via each previous races on coral or any other bookie site u actually find most off the time it's one off the low price favourites that will win so if you have a couple off dogs on 2 or 3 and the money is ok u carnt go far wrong I carnt really see it being mucth harder to find the winner than horse racing I meen most greyhound races its 6 dogs in the race or evan 5 which is a massive pluss
Am not sure graded dogs doo even run in and out of form,,as if one dosnt win in a few races it will be down graded too give it a good chance ,and most likley will Win,,,Also they speed them up and slow them down that much,,they wont have the time too run into form...🎉
Such a shame I was on the 9th of Jan as promised to anybody who wished to e.mail in and ask me any questions whatsoever about the greyhound industry but no one come forward oh well to everybody i did say I was on there
But it is more predictable if a person risks 1% of the bankroll only
I need help
hello Caan. im starting beting n greyhound which tactics you recomend to me ? thanks
Greyhounds? Go late, very late, follow the market (exchange not bookies)
Great video bro! More please....
ive so much about cheating going on in greyhound racing, from slowing hare down when to much money has been placed on a dog thats leading to allow other dogs to catch up, feeding a fav dog a large meal before a run, theres literally lots of ways to noble a dog, there was even a tv show on it, when you watch the greyhound market and the fav just before the off drifts out marketly say from 5/4 fav too 3/1 thenrun so badly, often finishing up last you know somethings not right...
Harness is worse.
Squeezing the dogs nads is the best one plays havoc with the sectionals so even the historical data cant be trusted and this little trick gives the backing crowd a buzz like crack cocaine short lived just like the dogs early pace speed. We have all been receiving end of a kick in the bollocks first off pain and anger before the sickness feeling kicks in thats when loses all pace and drops back through the field at a rate of knots.
Do they doo that soo they laythe dog too loose then??
Imconfused,,its not an easy sport too bet on.
Thanks for the video
No problem, Marco. Hope you are well :)
Great video 😁
Cheers bro.
Greyhound racing is fixed and football isn't?????
It's usually gamblers who lose that make remarks that it's fixed.
Hi Paul, nice to see the resident nutcase back on the channel! No... not really, greyhounds are easily manipulated low end poor quality events where nobody cares about much. Football is a massive international economy with billions of pounds at stake. Bit different.
Do you have any vip group?
No, the value is often there for a short space of time so its not worth doing this.

Bet on a greyhound today, coz if it loses, it will be shot tomorrow.. how many greyhounds die each year...
Caan Berry, do they have a choice, like any dog, they enjoy a run, but do you think it’s right that thousands of greyhounds are mutilated and killed each year for pleasure. Each dogs has its ears tattooed, so some unscrupulous owners chop off their ears and throw them from vans.
These animal make beautiful pets, not yappy, don’t need loads of exercise (surprisingly).. but in the hands of these mother f*ckers, they have a life of misery, life that’s a laugh, they’ll be lucky to live to 4 yrs..

Greyhound racing is dead
Your introduction is complete and utter nonsense. "Greyhound racing is bent"
You say it like all sport isn't.
Watch NFL, that's bent beyond belief., Snooker, horse racing obviously is even more bent, because you've got a little cheating toerag on top stopping the horse....
I've got a friend who plays for a northern Ireland prem team, (a decent one) and he told me once "have what you like on us not winning"... They were going throw the game, and the management and the board were involved.... They had 2 red cards, missed a penalty themselves and conceded a penalty, which opposition missed (keeper didn't move), rebound was scored
