With your securement: Don’t hook to flat metal with the hooks, wrap around the anchor points. Run your chains to the anchor point and put the binder in the chain to pull like 4 links away from the anchor point. You should have a piece of carpet between the x chain so no friction.

Looks good! The only thing I would have done different is I would have made the two chains in the center of the machine independently 4 points instead of running the chain all the way across and using 1 binder per side. That way if something comes loose you only lose 1 point of securement instead of the whole chain coming loose. Legally your fine but it's just added protection.

URGENT IMPORTANT just trying to give you a friendly tip to avoid spending your hard earned money and hauling loads for free it is very important that you carry a roll of American made duck tape with you. You need to tape the exhaust pipe shut on anything you haul. The crashed fire truck you’re hauling now has 2 engines the exhaust needs taped on, the reason being when going down the road the wind goes in the exhaust pipe and spins the turbos on dry bearings. The turbos only lubricate when the engine is running. You well know how expensive turbos are. Tip number two it’s a good idea to use heavy duty shackles to hook your chains to. Lastly, let the air out of the tires of whatever you’re hauling if it’s too high. You can gain 6-10 inches real easy. Better safe than sorry, like watching your videos.
I love watching something good for a change. My dad drove trucks all his life with my mom when we left home they went into every state even in Canada they love it and made good money in the 70 80 90 2000 now I pray for you guys God bless yall keep it between the ditches my friend 🙏 Roger.
We moved to Florida from Tennessee three years ago! We are moving out of this cesspool in four months and can not wait. The spring, summer and fall are hot as hell and humid beyond belief. It must be experienced to understand.
One of my pet peeves is finding a good place for oversize signage…A clean legible sign helps keep you out of trouble if a distracted driver were to hit you they could use that as a cause for the accident. Stay safe out there. Appreciate the video
Why don’t all of you experts start your own channel and let this man just be himself? We watch him for the content, not to correct what you feel are mistakes. The man must be doing something right, he is successful! You go Tim and Family. I like what I see!
First off Tim asked for for advice from people that have experience. pulling oversized heavy equipment loads... nobody's telling Tim how to do anyting ....for example you always cover the exhaust because the wind going down through the exhaust can turn the turbo and burn it up because it doesn't have any oil pumping to it ... it'll also can get rain and road debris in the exhaust so it's best to cover them. Also you want to fold the mirrors in because you're already oversized and they stick out a considerable amount .... not to mention you want to secure every door because you don't want the wind catching it and ripping it off. You also want to check that stuff every time you stopped because assholes will come and open the door without you knowing ...
My dad use to haul otr and I’d ride with him. He hauled for a company out of Fayetteville TN and it wasn’t uncommon for us to climb mount eagle. I wouldn’t trade anything for the time we spent and the places I got to see. Granted it was dark most of the time but we hardly missed a sunrise. I’ve never wanted to be a trucker but my respect for American truckers is up there and I’ve learned things other people will never think of. Like flashing your lights if you get passed by a semi to let them know they’re clear of you and can get back over.
Covering the exhaust is a must if towing backwards and the load is turbocharged. Simply you don't want the turbo Turning without proper oilage.Cheers !
unless there is an exhaust leak before the turbo no amount of air flowing past the exhaust stack will spin the turbo ,,what will happen however especially with a rearward pointed exhaust stack is water and debris in the exhaust ,,,however most of these fire trucks i have seen have a rain flap on top of the vertical stack
@@unathandavis I have seen several turbos have to get rebuilt because of being spun and no oil pressure it doesn't take much to burn up the bearings in a turbo
@@stevesmith1158 nope the exhaust system is closed and can't turn turbo fast enough the air would have to travel through the engine to be a factor. Thats why nobody worries about a wind storm turning a turbo.

Hi Tim I hauled heavy equipment for a rental company when I was young in the Houston TX and surrounding areas never had to climb any mountains this video did bring back some good memories makes me want to drive again if only I could. I would love to see a trucking company with all cab overs I love seeing them have not seen any for years now I know it was fun driving the one my father owned. The last COE I drove was an old mack cracker box the owner did not keep it in good working order it was not fun. The last trip I was taking it it was hauling pipe from Houston TX to Cameron LA I told the owner to get someone else that it would not get past the weight station the owner got a friend of mine to take it he spent 3 days in jail and the truck was impounded in LA for not being road worthy.
I grew up in Green Bay where Schneider National calls home. Back in the 80's and 90's all their trucks were orange and black. You could drive past their parking lot and it was filled at least 100 orange and black semis. Locals called it the pumpkin patch. Dream big. Schneider has something like 20,000 employees now along with it's own driver school and shop.
Things sure have changed, I started out in a chevy with a three eighteen Detroit and when I had a big load you would come to the top at twenty-five or so. Then came the real fun going down the other side with NO jake and only brakes on the tandems and trailer.
Atleast you had a 318. I started out in an International Cabover 36" sleeper 6-71 Detroit (what was that a 220 hp) non aspirated and a 13 speed, no Jake's and 3-9 trailer, usually carrying around 75,000 lbs of steel. 1st load out of the mill I was on the tollroad and going up the steepest incline, a trooper pulls me over and asks, " Why are you going so slow?" Mind you this is less then half way up and now on the shoulder. I looked at him and said You pulled me over just to ask that! I'll tell you what you jump in the drivers seat, and show me how to do it and I'll drive your squad to the top! I can't believe you did this, I was going 29 mph and now I'm sitting on the shoulder you sure didn't think on this did you? He turned around, walked to his squad, got in and drove off! That's when I learned some of these guys are not the brightest bulb on the tree!
@@birdmandan7077 I can't imagine how long it took you to get back up to speed (assuming you even did get back to 29mph lol) I've been thinking about getting into trucking but looking at all the problems that can (and likely will) come with the job is making me back out. Seems like a fun job! (the driving part atleast, seeing the country and all) I struggle getting my manual civic up a hill from a stop without stalling it, 75000lbs of steel and only 220hp... that's hell.
Hey Tim !! As Ron Pratt says"" There are a # of ways to get to 10 "" as there are some issues of just using 1 chain to tie down instead of 2 ,but will leave that up to your HH experts to tell you different !! "PETE" looks & Sounds great !! Have a good run & Thanks for the ride !!!

Tim, you say you love cab overs then you say you love conventional cabs. Brother this is why your successful you might as well say you just love trucks! You sure are in the right business, it’s a joy watching your videos.
At 1:55 in video, one chain across differential suspension i believe should have two different chains with two different binders, then again that is an old school way of doing things, and i am old, expression on your pups face leads me to believe i am right. All the best.
Hey, if you get nervous and adrenaline that means you still respect your load and know it can be dangerous. Appreciate your safety consciousness and good driving.
I agree now that I’ve gotten older, we ran stinger car haulers to the Nashville sale 3-4 times a week, our 379 with a tuned 600 Cat climbed it at 80-90mph (when it was all clear), came down the Chattanooga side about as fast. Looking back, it was silly and irresponsible but the truck took it with ease.
I have to go with a previous comment you should Cover the exhaust on the fire truck to keep rain and debris out just use a couple plastic bags and some duct tape
I always tape them up then put a rag over it and then tape the rage down. If you ain’t careful most times bags rip. I use a red heat shrink tape and it doesn’t come over easy
My largest oversized load.. was a frame for an airplane part for the 777 made by Janikie for Boeing. It was 32 ft wide and 75 ft long. It wasn't a very long run. It was only from Hamilton Washington to Sedro-Woolley which I think is about 12 to 16 MI. But it took us 8 to 9 hours to do and that we had to have police escorts and everything. They even did road construction 6 months in advance to sink the road under a railroad track bridge from 14 ft to 17 ft so I could pull this load to where it needed to go. Also the company that contracted me to pull this load paid for all the road work. 🤯 I don't know if that was the coolest load I've ever pulled, or pulling a couple hundred and twenty foot long wind turbine wings from Hamilton Washington to a few spots in Oregon and Washington.
I’ll be willing to bet the company planned on taking a few planes through that path and it had to make huge financial sense to redo a road 😂 That’s wild! Cool memory to have ✊🏾
@@billmurphy4487 You balance it out the best you can and get an overweight permit. Then they go off of the max manufacturer weight that your axles and tires are rated for.
@@billmurphy4487 I don't know unless his tires are rated for an extra 10,000 lb for the whole setup I'm not sure. His trailer tires did look bigger than normal though.
I love this show I love watching the trucks you doing a great job and I appreciate what you're doing one thing I like to say sure wish you'd fix that light on that tack LOL can't wait to see all the add-ons you put on the truck stay safe God bless
I would say don't cross your chains. You have backup chains in the center, so it's not the biggest deal, but if it were 4 corners only, you would want to avoid crossing. If one chain breaks and you're crossed, the load can move a lot more than if you had a short run on each corner. It's counter to what most people learn, but the geometry speaks for itself.
@@georgetoma7139 It is 100% true. If you have a 6ft chain crossing to the opposite side of the load, and you lose one of the corners, the load has the potential to shift away from the broken corner up to 12ft until the intact chain will interact with the load again. If you have 3ft chains on the corners, the load only has the potential of sliding away from a broken corner 6ft before the chain interacts with the load again. Also, on the opposite END of the load from the broken corner, crossed chains will not assist in retaining the load. The load can rotate on the intersection point of the crossed chains becoming completely useless in keeping the load safe.
Yeah, losing 1 chain in a cross tie front and and back is enough to lose the entire load if it shifts. Someone did a great demonstration video here on RUclips with a toy trailer setup.
Not to mention it’s not vaporizing the oil at the higher temps I don’t care what the engineers say the cooler you can run cars trucks whatever it gives them longevity and makes it run better! Love this channel thanks for the great content sir! Would love to meet you some day! My son was just living in Kingsport, TN welding at the old paper mill there that they’re turning into cardboard plant for Amazon. Stay safe out there Sir and if you’re ever passing through Kansas City I’ll bring you some good BBQ!
You should get rubber mats and cut them into rectangles and put them in between the chains where they cross because having them touch could make them eventually snap without that mat there
Now and then I think Id like to go trucking once more. You've pointed out the good and the bad parts. I think I'll keep dreaming of how it was in the 70's and 80's, driving Mach R700s and pulling tanks of gasoline or fuel oil or chemicals. Going house to house delivering fuel oil was really tiring in the winter when we had a blizzard. God bless you.
Tim that C16 will be just fine at 1000 degrees. Those newer motors can handle the heat. Good call on the thermostats. The trick to cat is set the Jake’s tight and the overhead lose. Toss a marine 800 cam in it. Then come up north and pull the 200K with us.
If anything I would've tried to get maybe another one or two pulling forwards an back . Not too many good places to chain them down at but again never hurts to have extra security incase some bears wanna give ya the run around .
Also if those chains are only rated for 10,000 pounds, then you need at least 3 more to make the weight rating to be legal. It's been a while since I've done heavy haul flatbed, but I do know you need to exceed the weight of your load, but I can't remember how much by. Awesome load though. 🍻
That's what is was thinking and they fig each tie down by the lower rating of the two (ex. Boomer rated at 7000 chain rated at 10,000 it's ony worth 7000lb on that tie down)
Additionally if you run a single chain link he did on the rear of the trailer from the trailer to a central point on the load and back down to the trailer cuts the load rating of the chain in half because 1 chain is being used as two hold down points if you follow what I am saying. However if you have a long single chain going from the trailer to a binder to your load on one side of the trailer and then were to have slack chain the hooking to a binder that is hooked to the load on then to the other side of the trailer then load valve of the chain is 100% of its rating because in reality you are using two separate chains that just happened to be connected together in the middle Additionally crossing chains like he did on the front of the trailer is a bad idea because if one of those chains were to break it the other chain would be in effect pulling the load across the trailer, it is a much better practice to secure your load with chains/straps pulling in a straight line on each side of the load. I personally used to always cross my chains until I went to a training seminar on load securement and the instructor covered that subject in great detail and had scale model of a trailer and demonstrated proper and improper methods of load securement. Anyway he put a sheet of teflon on the deck of his model trailer to simulate a slick/icy trailer deck and crossed his “chains” and tightened them evenly and the cut one chain and every time the load on the trailer pulled to the side of the trailer that intact chain was pulling towards.
While you guys in the comments aren't wrong, thats mainly for turbos in the open/with open compressor housings and "straight pipe" exhaust. I doubt there's enough free flowing air through that exhaust to make that turbo spin.
There is more than enough air pushing back though muffler to spin a turbo. Don’t believe me get a modern muffler and take an blow gun and blow backwards through the muffler and then get a turbo and set it on a bench with anemometer in front of it and then hook a blow gun up with an air pressure regulator on it and see how little wind speed it take to windmill a turbo and you will be surprised. Personally I like to place a cover the exhaust and air intake when towing a vehicle because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the old saying goes.
@@gullreefclub the fact you mentioned setting the turbo on a bench in a completely open environment proves to me you missed the point of my comment. Not to mention I was specifically talking about this application tim is hauling. Im aware how easily a turbo spins when there's zero restrictions, but that's not the case here. In this case there's a full exhaust system, full intake system, intercooler and engine all connected to it making it much less likely to spin by itself. I never said it can't happen, just that it's not really an issue in this particular application. It's not like I'm over here saying it's never an issue and you never need to take special precautions with turbo equipped vehicles. All I was getting at is it's more of a (but not specific to) performance application type precaution.
Also I guess someone should go tell the major auto manufacturers that have turbo applications(trucks, suvs, cars etc) considering none of them cover the intakes and/or exhaust for OTR shipping.

Great channel Tim. I’ve been watching from the UK for a while now and love the American way when it comes to trucking. You guys take soo much pride in what you do and your equipment. Over here you just turn up, drive whatever your given and other than the odd few, the trucks are pretty soulless. I have some questions. What gross weight is the norm for trucks in the US? 90,000lb is under 41,000kg, majority of semi’s in Europe run at 44,000kg or 97,000lb gross on a daily basis. Also, most are around or under 500bhp, they don’t have any EGT gauges and the drivers couldn’t care less about the motors, it’s foot to the floor, climb as fast as the truck will allow. I doubt anyone (even owner drivers) back off to preserve the equipment when climbing. Also, I notice that American trucks cold starting seems to be a drama or an event. Do they not have glow plugs? Over here, cold starting is no drama at all. You just turn the key and it starts pretty much the same as normal.
Sitting here thinking exact same ... Looks cool, sounds cool ... oversized, heavy haul?? ... Where im from, 9/10 semi hauls are 120.000lb+ to be efficient enough to make money. 14 feet is standard hight for everything, and nothing oversized within 10 inches over each side and theres no drama in either power, torque, brakes or going up and down slopes or anything getting hot doing it. It would be some pretty boring videos if we went out and fit go-pros to every second load going around.
honest question, when you have an oversized load why are you always in the middle lane? wouldnt it make more sense to ride in the right lane so you only have to worry about the left lane instead of both lanes?
Tim when it comes to videoing in places like that it’s better to ask for forgiveness then to ask up front, if they have that big of a problem with it just stop videoing, if they say something tell them it’s for insurance purposes that you video when loading/unloading

I’m just happy seeing all y’all bringing back the old school pride in your trucks
What a sweet growl she has to her, that and the sound of my old shovelhead is music to my ears...
Should cover that exhaust pipe so no water or debris gets down in it. Just added protection can never over secure a oversized/heavy haul load.
theres alot of chains on this thing hahaha
One of my pet peeves is finding a good place for oversize signage…A clean legible sign helps keep you out of trouble if a distracted driver were to hit you they could use that as a cause for the accident. Stay safe out there. Appreciate the video
Why don’t all of you experts start your own channel and let this man just be himself? We watch him for the content, not to correct what you feel are mistakes. The man must be doing something right, he is successful! You go Tim and Family. I like what I see!
Who are u referring to there bob I only see people applauding him for covering th exhaust bc the turbo or something
Fkin right man. Half these pricks probably never been in anything bigger than a f350
He ask people for advice. Get off his nuts bob.
@@stevesmith1158 evidently you didn’t read all of the comments, some were quite petty, and I’m sure that I wasn’t talking about you. Relax Francis.
It wouldn't be enough air to spin the turbo fast enough that the residual oil can't handle
Are you serious right now..?
As a guy who has to go to truck stops to fix tires. Thank you sir for not peeing on the ground. Great when changing a tire and smelling pee. Gotta love it
Hi Tim I hauled heavy equipment for a rental company when I was young in the Houston TX and surrounding areas never had to climb any mountains this video did bring back some good memories makes me want to drive again if only I could.
"you're so beautiful" awww so sweet and sincere
That's a beast. That'll make the pete work some! It'll sound impressive.
(the driving part atleast, seeing the country and all)
I struggle getting my manual civic up a hill from a stop without stalling it, 75000lbs of steel and only 220hp... that's hell.

Love your channel man. I’m just getting into trucking bought my first truck a couple years ago and been fixing it up my way since. You’re channel has motivated me to just get out my comfort zone and go for it. Haven’t hauled yet still getting my paperwork together insurance and etc. I can’t freaking wait to hit the road. I’ll be running a 1997 Pete 379 short w/cat and a 53 combo step deck. Thanks for the videos.
Tim, you say you love cab overs then you say you love conventional cabs. Brother this is why your successful you might as well say you just love trucks! You sure are in the right business, it’s a joy watching your videos.
Bubba if the chains are rubbing against each other put something between them that is a big ticket
Looks like there was a little space between them but you’re right they’ll find the smallest things and fine you for them
Darius Boykin the front 2 looked like they was but I am watching on a small phone lol
Mine belting pieces work great 8x8” to 12x12” pieces
Recap tread works wonderfully, too
P A Leggett I always used some old fire hose I use to get it from our local fire department
Wow
Not sure how I got here but love the content. Love seeing them big rigs at work.
Amazing skills up and down Eagle mountain. The cooling and jakes performance was awesome! Loving the content bro 🙂
Passed on of your trucks in Rockwall Texas, crossing the Lake Ray Hubbard Bridge...hauling bigass boat. Glad your business is taking off.
Dude are you supporting the Freedom Convey 😎
At 1:55 in video, one chain across differential suspension i believe should have two different chains with two different binders, then again that is an old school way of doing things, and i am old, expression on your pups face leads me to believe i am right. All the best.
Hey, if you get nervous and adrenaline that means you still respect your load and know it can be dangerous. Appreciate your safety consciousness and good driving.
yes sir its when people get too comfortable they get hurt...
Looks right to me Tim and I used to haul heavy load and chained it up like you did great job my trucking friend
I have to go with a previous comment you should Cover the exhaust on the fire truck to keep rain and debris out just use a couple plastic bags and some duct tape
Also keeps the turbo from spinning dry and burning the bearing out on long hauls
@@daccuscape9729 good idea!
I always tape them up then put a rag over it and then tape the rage down. If you ain’t careful most times bags rip. I use a red heat shrink tape and it doesn’t come over easy
Alrighty nice hanging out with you be safe out there you're posting I'm watching
Tim you need to have pieces of a rug carpet so you could place it where ever the chains rub or cross each other, keep on trucking.
I'd add a mud flap works well for this too and they are free all over every truck stop and warehouse 😂🤣😂
Tim I always secure my chains ends no loose ends to make sure they don't cause any problems. Safe travels and God bless

That would be so cool to see the old trucks from the 90s on the roads today a big fleet of them like you said !!!!!
put some heavy duty wheel chocks under the wheels, and then strap the wheel chocks down then chain it down
You are so lucky I love the diesel Brothers and I living maine so this is amazing that my favorite RUclipsr is hauling for him I'm soooo happy for you
My largest oversized load.. was a frame for an airplane part for the 777 made by Janikie for Boeing.
I’ll be willing to bet the company planned on taking a few planes through that path and it had to make huge financial sense to redo a road 😂
That’s wild!
Cool memory to have ✊🏾
How doing scale 90.000 with that set up

You balance it out the best you can and get an overweight permit. Then they go off of the max manufacturer weight that your axles and tires are rated for.
I know that but u can not get one for that weight. On a 5 alex

I don't know unless his tires are rated for an extra 10,000 lb for the whole setup I'm not sure. His trailer tires did look bigger than normal though.

hauled a lot of heavy loads you did good 82 years old me !!!!
Alyn you are so correct!! So many people do it tho! When actually it can pull the load off the trailer
@@joshuawilliams3831 you really think so?
Tie downs look good in my opinion been pulling oversize for 8+years now on RGNs
And here my truck works its ass off holding 50 up Monteagle grossing out at 57k. Must be nice!
Frustrating seeing the lack of infrastructure supporting our truckers. Literally what keeps us moving.
That Pound puppy chilling out where its cool !!
Boomer rated at 7000 chain rated at 10,000 it's ony worth 7000lb on that tie down)
At least match the weight
I pulled oversize out of Florida for 10 years. Everything looks good and secure to me.
I love how he’s pulling 90k lbs up a hill and gettin only 800egt and my 24v cummins unloaded with 35s runs 900egt going up an ant hill.
The motor has a PDI manifold and turbo that's what does it
Apples vs. oranges
Truly love the content, and the obvious REAL Old School Love of Trucks and Trucking. Wish you the very best in all you do!
@@gullreefclub the engine on the other side is a deadhead.

Cool comment
A scania v8 is probably the only truck in Britain that sounds nice and meaty but America have the nicest looking 👌
Will Curtis. In Northern Europe, we have 50 000 kg as normal with 60 000 kg total on lumbertrucks. Most of the lumbertrucks have 750 hp pluss.
Definitely an old Air Force fire truck, the remnants of the badge on the back window is the giveaway.
honest question, when you have an oversized load why are you always in the middle lane? wouldnt it make more sense to ride in the right lane so you only have to worry about the left lane instead of both lanes?
It would but the load is not that wide its just high,in the video when he shows the side view mirrors you will see
Tim I appreciate you practicing what you Preach. Your a great example!!
Tim when it comes to videoing in places like that it’s better to ask for forgiveness then to ask up front, if they have that big of a problem with it just stop videoing, if they say something tell them it’s for insurance purposes that you video when loading/unloading
It don’t work that way bud. 99% of the places can really ruin your life real quick. And you can loose the load.. never assume and never use the it’s better too ask forgiveness then permission. Definitely when you don’t know what kinda location you’re at and what they do. Some places you can be federally charged. And those places they don’t give too craps about forgiveness. If you have ever done any federal transporting you would know this. So Tim be careful listening too this kinda stuff.
