You might have figured this out already, but jet-wash is the manual car wash with a power hose. The ‘bonger’ as James calls it, is just the ‘bong’ or ‘beep’ sound the machine makes when you only have a short time left.
I think it's less about him realising he sounds like he cares too much and more of him coming to the sudden realization of what that series of events would mean for everyone else in the caravan 😂

The mid to late 2000's, from this season until 15, I'd consider peak top gear. Also seasons 19 & 21 are really good
