    Hi Greg, I took the plunge and bought one from Amazon and just received it today...it’s life changing...no more radio interference!! So I’m now able to use my phone for Satnav and listen to the radio whilst my phone is charging. I’m now also able to use an FM transmitter for my head unit which doesn’t have Bluetooth so now I can listen to Spotify too. Thank you 🙏🏼

    Bigger issue with digital radio transition in modern cars. AM Sucks with car computer and fuel injection pump in the tank. All kinds of rf noise propogating.
    Quick check. Turn key to accessory with engine off. Tune in your station. Keep cell phone out of the car for the test.
    Start the car. Any static? Bring cell phone into car, wirhout the charger hooked up.
    Static? Plug in phone to charger. Static?
    Process of elimination.

    That's amazing, We get static in the city trucks and I aways blamed it on high power when under the wires on Phoenix Street in Delavan, but it was really the cell phones that were doing that. I'll have to tell the boys. Thanks Greg.

    • @wisconsinGreg
      @wisconsinGreg  6 лет назад

      It could be the high power wires just unplug all the cell phones in the trunk and see if the noise goes away. If noise goes away it's the phone charger if not it's probably the high power wires.

    An AM radio is one of the best tools for detecting dirty electricity. That charger is causing a lot of it. That's why there's so much static when you plug it in. That new charger you found is gold. Get a portable AM radio and check your house. Static coming from almost every device and appliance. It emits a field out to about 6-8 feet from anything producing it. Dirty electricity is a silent killer. Be careful.

    What you were using was cheap chargers with high noise output. Your solution was a decent charger with low line noise and likely a noise filter circuit. This would be a good topic for Bigclive to explain.

    Sorry in advance, if I am mistaken.
    At 7:20-7:21, there is a marking on the RHS black cover that resembles a usb symbol. I don't know if that is on the left cover where Greg has the USB charger as that would be labelled 12V DC, for anything running off a 12V DC power supply. If that is the case, why not just plug the usb cable into the USB port on the right hand side?

    • @wisconsinGreg
      @wisconsinGreg  4 года назад

      The right USB socket is for like music and if I try charging from there it shuts off the radio.

    • @wisconsinGreg
      @wisconsinGreg  3 года назад

      Not really sure sounds like it may be an issue with the Bluetooth device? Maybe try your Bluetooth device in other vehicles and see if it acts the same in all vehicles?

      comment is 8 months old but if you see this i got the exact same problem: static that only comes on when the engine is running, and the sound of the whine is kind of matched to the engines revving. If you got a solution please lmk

    I heard some chargers (depending on auto's port) can weaken phone batteries?

    • @wisconsinGreg

      That may possibly be true but I've never had a noticable problem with that.

      Lion batteries last longer when charged at a lower rate. Always use 1.5A Max charging and the battery will last longer.

  • @bruceterhune3400
    @bruceterhune3400 4 года назад

    What about static noise that's not associated with the charger?

    • @wisconsinGreg
      @wisconsinGreg  4 года назад

      I'm not exactly sure but I would say you would have to determine if it's coming from something on the vehicle or outside the vehicle. Once that is narrowed down than a cure could be made possibly depending on what it is. If it's something on the vehicle it could be something as easy as changing the alternator.

    • @Lancedsanders
      @Lancedsanders 4 года назад +1

      There are noise suppressor spark plugs that help cut AM static interference. If it's alternator whine, it varies as you increase your speed. Those can be installed behind the radio at the 12v supply.

    The AM radio in my 2020 Honda CRV is making a loud buzzing sound every time I drive by a cell tower. Help!

    • @wisconsinGreg
      @wisconsinGreg  4 года назад

      Was it always that way or did the problem just start? Being a 2020 I'd ask the dealer first what they think. I'd ask them if they ran across that problem with other cars like yours before. They will probably say they never seen that problem before but it doesn't hurt to ask. Go by the tower and try things like unplugging anything charging or plugged in accessories such as cellphones, gps, etc and see if noise goes away. Try turning stuff such as fans, air conditioning, heated seats, etc off and see if noise goes away or changes sound. First you have to narrow down the area before you can try different cures. They can be very frustrating to figurine out sometimes.

    • @pattyjhebert57
      @pattyjhebert57 4 года назад

      wisconsin Greg It started the day I drove it off the lot. I just took it to the dealer and they said “HI! THE HONDA TECHNICIAN REACHED OUT TO TECH LINE AND THEY SAID INTERFERENCE IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF VEHICLE.” I call that “characteristic” a defect!

    Those feral beads work if the wire passes through the center several times. Also the solid ones are way better than the clip on. Often with clip ons from Amazon they aren't even the right material. Chinese fakes. Cheap car chargers are missing a filter capacitor that keeps the high frequency discharge at a steady rate.

    Thank you for the information regarding that phone charger. However I think in the future it might be best if you Precinct what you're going to say on the video. Maybe write it down like it script. Before you start your video. This video was like getting a root canal without Novocaine. It was brutal.

      Thanks for the tip, but I get that noise with no charger plugged in. I'm wondering if there is a factory component that imitates a cheap cell phone charger. The Toyota dealer said it's ok because it gets stations and it sounds just like yours did. Crazy making noise!

    Open any cheap phone charger, wrap the circuit board first in electrical tape to avoid shorts then wrap it in tin foil. If you want added protection run a lead from the foil to the ground. Easy. Don't need to beehive it, just enough that you can still close it up again.
