Hi. The knives were included but not installed on the version i bought, as the dimension of the cutterhead with knives are larger than the bearing hole. Sheatak also have a version with a slightly smaller diameter cutter block that comes with the knives installed
😂 good comment! Guess im just that kind of guy 😀 But its not very delicate mechanics and is built to handle it, so it should be ok (I hope). Still works fine after several years of use 👌
Thanks for your comment robster. It certainly ain’t cheap, but i believe it will be hard to get a cheaper thicknesser with spiral cutter head. At least I haven’t seen any. Before I changed I had a couple of belts burn out and I had a couple of instances with debris getting underneath the 2 knives, causing delays, terrible results and ruined workpieces. So that justified the investment for me
@@tools4fools717 I am very willing to spend good money for good gear. I've had my 330 for a couple of weeks now and the blades are already a tad chipped from me learning to use it. I feel like the helical head would be the biggest upgrade that I could give my machine
Question: Where did you buy the cutter head? Straight from Sheartak, or is there a Norwegian dealer? I'm considering doing the same to my DH330, as getting new, original cutter blades is a pain in the butt these days. Greetings from Trøndelag :)
Hi Alf. I got the cutterhead directly from Sheartak. I doubt they have any dealers in Norway. Original style blades are a bit of a pain even if you have new ones too 😀
hy! I also own the Metabo DH 330. My problem ist, that the planed surface ist not parallel. But I don´t know how to adjust that. In your Video I can´t really understand how to. Maybe you can explore this a little bit? best regards!
Hi. Yes i had do do it a few times. There are probably several ways to appraoach it, but If i remember correctly you just need to undo the side cover and roll the polyrib belt on- one rib at the time. So start to put the belt on one of the pulleys- but only one or two ribs. Then roll the same rib(s) onto the other pulley. Then push the belt over the next rib while rotating it- until it’s fully installed…. If that explanation was understandable…
Thanks for posting this! The website says that with this "Noise is dramatically reduced". Did you find this to be true? At the end you seem to suggest it's still just as loud, so wanted to check. I'm hesitating between this and the Makita, and I think the Makita may be quieter. Thanks!
Ive never heard the Makita running so I don’t know how they compare, but the motor on the Metabo does make quite some noise -even when running without material. I got the Metabo because I wanted the extra width. But even if there is a minor improvement with the noise level when running material it’s still darned loud. So I usually wear earmuffs. Doubt the Makita will be very different as such. But the Makita has a slightly smaller motor rating- guess that’s helps reduce the noise a bit
Hi. I did actually measure the decibel before and after. Mind this was done with my cellphone only so it’s not very scientific, but before the changeover I had about 100db. After it was around 75-80db. But before I changed the knives and machine was not well configured and tuned. The helical block does sound a bit less choppy, but I wouldn’t say it makes a huge difference to the work environment.
Good job. I have the same model Metabo DH330 and the cutterhead today stopped spinning despite the fact that the motor was trying hard. I supposed one or both of the bearing are damaged. What do you think? Can you tell me what size bearing this model takes so I can order them.
I have been reading a lot of forums and videos which point out a problem with wood chips getting behind the blades and bending them. The plate seems to be too thin. One user said that metabo told them that it was not suitable for rough wood only pre-planed wood which seems to defeat the purpose. I assume with the spiral cutterhead there would not be the same problem, but for the price it seems that I may as well just buy a better thicknesser. .
Hi Jean. I guess Sheartak makes these on request, but it can be bought on their website. It is a bit of an investment, but i am very satisfied with how my thicknesser performs now- its totally on par with the best ones ive seen. Hardly any sanding required, and it runs much more efficiently. www.sheartak.com/Spiral_Cutterhead_Metabo_DH330_Bench_Thicknesser_OEM?search=metabo%20dh330
@@craftsmanmk8499 I am very happy with the way it performs now. I haven’t tested it on all sorts of wood, but it works way better on oak, and leaves a smooth finish. Previously I’ve replaced knives and worn belts, but I honestly believe that won’t happen again now with the spiral installed. I have a small shop and no space for the larger machines, so I found this to be a good solution for me. Since I already had the Metabo I also found it to be a better investment to replace the cutter head, rather than replacing the whole unit as the new ones are expensive with the helical cutters, and few go up to 330mm

For every change in the helical head (usually just rotating the blades), I've gone through 10-11 sets of blades. The decent quality blades are £40-50 a pair. If you use this machine regularly the helical cutter pays for itself pretty quickly. Plus a pack of ten carbide inserts is around £12, and your machine will probably fail before you have rotated the ones that come with the head four times.
would suggest to include the actual dissassembly/assembly video parts...ie. how did you remove the actual old cutter head instead of jumping to already removed....would make it much better and maybe make it less of a decision to buy or not...imho. Good video otherwise!
@tools4fools Puuuh seems a lot of work to change the spiral cutter. The assebmling, disassambling part looks like a huge time consuption effort. Did you have snipes on the ends of your workpiece before installing the spiral cutter and if so, does the sprial cutter eliminate the snipes? Btw. the shopping link that you provide has been changed. The new address is: www.sheartak.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=metabo%20dh330 But as you see on the web site there are two different versions of the cutter. Which one do you have take? - SUBSCROBED.
Results look pretty impressive. Didn't know they sold this upgrade for the DH 330.
Brilliant, I came here by chance to see how to calibrate the machine and yesssss, you showed me how it’s done, thank you very much, great help !
Absolutely fantastic, thank you for this video. Short and to the point.
Hi! Does the cutter head already come with knives or do I need to buy a pack of 40 too to eb fully equipped? :)

How can you disassemble the whole machine and not clean it? It's mind blowing.
