I appreciate that Shawn brings up Cades strength and conditioning in the 4th quarter - it was a problem all last season and it rarely gets brought up. Better strength and conditioning will also allow Cade to put more effort on the defensive end I'd also add that it'd be nice to see Cade develop some chemistry with someone other than duren
Huge mistakes early last season: Ivey not starting. Sasser not being the backup point. Unfortunately, too many fans are wanting to repeat the same mistakes. Ivey and Sasser were not our problems last season. What was? Hayes just could not play well. Poor shooting, and defense way worse than people wanted to admit, as he continually let people drive right thru him. Second problem, nobody would guard Stewart, so the ball was always double teamed, killing our offense. Three, Stewart had no height, nor compensating athleticism, to be part of our pair of bigs; so the basket was never protected well enough from weak side. (Stewart can move his feet well to stop guard penetration when he switches on a guard, but totally fails at rim protection from helpside.) Worse, if Stewart was not in the game, we pretty much never played anything even resembling a power forward. Often, we'd have Duren, then nobody over 6-6 out there. Four, constant turmoil in the rotation. Which was not always from injuries, but rather just bad choices by the coach of who to play. Hayes is gone. Problem solved. Harris replaced Stewart, problem largely solved. And we have Reed as a backup center, so, no, Stewart is not needed. Problem is not totally solved, unless the new coach does not play Stewart, or I should say, is allowed not to play him. Harris replaced Stewart, wait, problem not solved on defense. If we depend on Harris for helpside defense at the rim, that will be a total failure. Reed should be the guy that directly replaces Stewart on defense, starting Reed at power forward. (with Harris starting at small forward.) The highly athletic Reed will work well with Duren to keep the rim protected from cutters and people getting by their man. Yes, Harris is a bit slow to guard quicker small forwards, but just have him help out some with interior defense while others rotate to help him with his guy. (Think Corliss.) And, guys getting by Harris face Reed and Duren at the hoop. Last problem is solved by having a deep and talented rotation. Play the right guys, play them in logical combinations. Value strong defenders. Our new GM has provided the right players; our coach needs to play all of them enough to be integrated into the system such that injuries to a player or two does not slow us down much.
Start Cade, Ivey, Harris, Reed, Duren. Bench is Sasser, Beasley, Fontecchio, Klintman, (Reed and Duren each cover some backup center minutes.) While I don't have Holland nor Thompson in the rotation, both should play regular minutes, as defensive subs, as needed. Moore Jr. is another guy that should be used on occasion as a defensive sub. None of Beasley, Klintman, Sasser, Fontecchio, Reed, nor Harris need to always get all their minutes - minutes can be found for Thompson &Holland, and to some extent for Moore Jr.
No way, Ausar Thompson has to play more minutes than your suggesting, his impact on defense and rebounding is just to great to ignore, the Pistons are a better team when Ausar was doing his thing. I like Reed tho, he definitely deserves minutes too
@@razkable Reed is 25. Yes, he is our future too. While several people can play some power forward, Reed is an actual power forward, very athletic, very quick, very offensively gifted. Thompson and Holland can get plenty of minutes off the bench. Including a bit, for both, of playing some backup power forward minutes behind Reed. However, not one minute should be given freely to either. While I believe they can out compete such players as Fontecchio, Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr, everybody involved needs a fair shot at the minutes.
@@scottwickett1273 Your lack of foresight is showing again, lesser teams have turned it around in 1 season like the Cav’s did in 2021 winning 44 games after only winning 22 games the previous year under J.B Bickerstaff defensive influence,(the Pistons had no defensive coordinator last year, this season they have a great teacher of defense), the Cav’s did it with less talent than the Pistons have right now, they improved defensively and made the playoffs overnight every year it’s a at least one team or teams that go from last place to the playoffs in just 1 season, who is the team that makes that turnaround this season? I believe it’s the Pistons, Jalen Duren is better than Mobley and Cade is better than little Donavan Mitchell, and they don’t have a Ausar Thompson…..if the Pistons cut down on their turnovers and upgrade their defense, I see no reason why the Pistons can’t be the surprise turnaround team this season, remember they play in a weak conference with only 3(Boston,Milwaukee and Philly) great teams in the conference. The Pistons have a chance to win 40 games against them weaklings because they will cut down on the silly turnovers and play better defense, you’ll see

You have to start thompson and use ron as a 6th man...otherwise why did you pick them...they are the future not reed thj malik and harris...

If the Pistons defense takes a positive step forward, I think the Pistons will win 35-40 games
You are delusional, they need that positive step forward on defense just to win 24 instead of 14!
