    I’m so glad they didn’t cgi the airplane scenes. Those were no doubt my favorite scenes.

      same, my favorite part of the plane scene was when Bane said "it would be extremely painful" and CIA was like "you're a big guy" and Bane was like "...for you"

      yeah, but imo they really should add some cgi bombs from the dive bombers, if you look on the amazing scene, where our protagonist nearly gets hit by an aerial bomb, it is so good shot, but you actually don´t see any bombs dropping, which normally fly fast, but not that fast, that you couldn´t see them. Also the sequence, where the mole is being bombed, where we again, don´t see the bombs falling. Some shots actually look like the mole would be torpedoed, or it´s just waves with added boom sound. I love Nolan´s style of filming, where he uses almost no cgi. But i don´t think cgi is necesarrily bad. For example the falling bombs would add just the bit more of realism and you can´t do some falling blurred dots bad looking with today´s standard.
      I could fing some more ,,mistakes" like the burning Spitfire at the end doesn´t have any motor in it, or in the scenes of Spitfires being filmed from a wing you can see, the plane, which the camera is on has radial engine, and rounded tube-like nose fuselage, which Spitfires don´t bcs they have a V engine and thus different shape of nose (that´s bcs Nolan actually build a plane exactly for this film, which allowed a pilot and cameraman sit in one plane and make these cool shots), but every film, has a lot of mistakes, lot of movies even more than dunkirk.
      I don´t want to sound like a dunkirk hater, dunkirk is actually one of my favourite movies ever, i just wanted to point out, that cgi should be accepted, like a good helper, of course i hate, when movie is all shot in front of green screen.

    I nearly teared up at the end with Tom Hardy’s character landing the plane and setting it on fire. Seeing the Spitfire (a plane that fascinates me so much) landing on the smooth beach with the music in the background gave me feelings.

    • @calosoma

      Me too, gets me every time. Also, I liked the part just before where he flew by the soldiers on the beach, saved by him. His engine had shut off due to running out of fuel, and he prepared to crash land on the beach, by lining up on the beach and opened his canopy. He was able to hear the thousands of soldiers down below on the beach cheering at him. Had his engine been on or sputtering, he wouldn't have heard them, but with his engine off, and canopy open, he heard them. Imagine what his character must have felt.

    • @calosoma
      @calosoma 3 года назад +3

      @@monaoleary4246 It's a great film and it *looks* like it's one shot, but when you watch the behind the scenes of 1917 they show you how they made it look like one continuous shot, when actually it's several long shots put together. They always used something between the shots as a "bridge" to connect them, such as the camera panning right past a tree that is right in front of it, or a group of soldiers that get in the way of the "hero", etc. It's a great film from the technical aspect of how they put it together to look like one shot. But I prefer Dunkirk for several reasons.

    • @sublunary767

    • @calosoma
      @calosoma 3 года назад +4

      Have seen both. Dunkirk without question. I like 1917 for the technical aspect of appearing like it's all one shot (even though it's not), and for the effect that shows the passage of time feeling like we're watching it in real time. But Dunkirk is historically accurate and an actual real event. They even filmed it on location in Dunkirk. Used real actual boats and ships, many of which were actually THERE at the evacuation of Dunkirk 77 years before. They broke several records of things that had never been done before. They even put the pilot actors in the air for many of the aerial shots that we see, so that we see the effect of the G-forces on the actors' faces. And so on and so forth. And the music!

    I don't understand why they don't just shoot the entire movie on 65mm. When you account for not being able to get perfect contact (due to the negative size) for making IMAX intermediaries, you really don't get much more resolution than 65mm. Also, using multiple formats really complicates post-production and there's virtually no real IMAX theaters (they've almost all gone to video projection) left in the world. 65mm still yields a far superior image to anything out there today.

    Bottom line .. Dunkirk spirit means snatching victory out of jaws of defeat .. ESCAPE! To fight another day. The rear guard were the ultimate true heroes who elected and ordered to fight and buy time for the retreating army to get back home! They knew they wud b injured killed or captured. They succeeded wiv their military objectives but sacrificed for their comrades and country. I've not seen movie 🎥 yet but this to me is the heart of Dunkirk that's always neglected! Why ? Coz it doesn't buy into the patriotic narrative!

    For a movie called Dunkirk, the beach scenes really lack any atmosphere. Feels like a couple of hundred extras at a local beach when in reality 315,000 men were rescued from the beach over a week or so. Compared to the movie Atonement which reeked of atmosphere and set design in the Dunkirk scenes. Feels like a very low budget film.
