  • Nearly 90% of the Florida Keys' living coral has disappeared in the past 40 years. Last fall, Anderson Cooper reported on the effort to rescue the reefs, including underwater farms, and learning more than we ever thought we'd need to know about the sex lives of coral.

As a coral reef keeper of 20+ years, the loss of reefs around the world is painfully depressing. The most beautiful animals on our planet and we are killing every last one.

@andrewwells335 You're lovely for providing sources, but you can't expect a troll to do anything but act like a toddler: Be childishly defiant about facts, and throw their toy (catastrophize) when told they're incorrect.
Let's hope that all of the coral developments continue, now that we have electrified reefs to assist in the calcium creation.

Almost a year later and yes, it has been monumental in changing reef "rescue" and creation on this side of the world.
I won't even speculate on the insane amount of variables that differ between Australian reefs and Floridian reefs; but we know enough now to see what works.
The issue with all of the efforts regarding Coral remains: humans aren't requiring companies to be responsible for their direct impact on the environment that we need to live.
Seems like not enough people have watched Snowpiercer? Or they don't get it/ don't care about anything other than themselves.

Hope it works better than the millions of tires they thought would be a good idea to dump in the ocean off the coast of Florida to start a reef.

Can we go to iron mines and get some of there waste rock melt them down into big squares and have stone artists work on em.
Why to dump them in the water and hopefully the waste rock iron is low enough to work if not cant we add normal rock from rock mines use the waste rocks of course and add tell you can use it.
    Yes no idk thoughts.

I mean, I commend their efforts and its a step in the right direction but I feel like this is putting a band-aid on a cannonball wound. Rising water temperatures, pollution, ocean acidification, etc...until there is a MASSIVE undertaking from the international community and government taking proactive measures, bills/laws/regulation/etc, this is a problem that isn't going to go away and probably get drastically worse.

I believe in climate change, and I believe it is killing our coral reefs. I believe we desperately need to reduce our reliance on carbon fuel.
But wouldn’t ocean warming push the range of coral reefs into waters that are too cold today? And result in other regions that are viable for coral reefs.
I know there are other factors, including pollution, and agricultural runoff. Just looking for some silver lining here. Maybe there isn’t one.

It's the water temperature.... why not find a way to cool the water around the reefs???.... I know I'm thinking outside the box here... but, aren't most new ideas considered outside the box by someone???.... You just have to keep trying.... keep adjusting... til you find something that works!!!....

God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this great universe and has complete control over it. And the greatest loss that a person loses in this life is that he lives while he does not know God who created him, knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. The great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and then you have the choice to believe in it or not. I advise you on this now before you do not have time to do that.
