Thank you is all I can say!
I’m here because of Alan watts
Great voice!
Thank you for this brilliant offering.
Can’t believe there’s only a few of us here. But we are not the chosen few
+Connor StandingReady Only by recognizing our true bright self nature, the ignorance of many can be extinguished. Don't be disheartened, one candle can light up thousands of candles, we will spread the wisdom of Buddha dharma only when we first purify ourselves and discover how wonderful is our Tathagatagarbha.
Thank you so much for making this!! I can learn the sutra and improve my 文言文 at the same time!
Good video
Keep uploading 🙏🏻
Profound work!
Thanks for posting this audio version. I do not have McRae's book.I have Red Pine's, Shodo Harada Roshi's and Martin Verhoeven's "Platform Sutra". They all very good. But the introduction to Verhoeven's book is so clearly written. It is a joy to read.
It is very easy to take the concept of "purifying" in a dualistic way. Yes, we are doing something, but we are not adding a single thing to our Buddha nature. All we are really doing is being aware.
I wish to also obtain the Sagely Truth 🙏
I love this sutra. It is new to me.
We should all purify our minds.

Empty Cloud Your name reminds me of Master Xuyun :)
By recognizing the original mind?
+Hai Do Yes, our minds are fundamentally bright and pure
Chapter 2, 31:44
I made it!

Could anyone please help me understand the true meaning of the word Dharma? Thanks!
+NeverCryWolf64 In Buddhism, dharma
has a number of distinct denotations. One of its most significant and common usages is to refer to “teachings” or “doctrines,” whether they be Buddhist or non-Buddhist.
I understand it is quite hard to grasp an accurate definition of dharma. At a beginner level, try treating this word as concepts or theories of Buddhism and/or secular concepts or theories generated by humanity.
Again, the word dharma is a polysemous term of wide
import in Buddhism and therefore notoriously difficult to translate.
@@dharmachakrawheelofthedhar6334 Thank you for this. Do you think it also means the paradigms that we mistake for truths, but which can never really approach reality because humans with their limited mental capacities and and sensory perceptions are unable to experience that reality?
@@NeverCryWolf64 Limitations of our sense organs, plus humans in nature sometimes fall into a pattern of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment, the latter one, we call this cognitive bias.
Hence, as you just said, we invent different “concepts” and try hard to describe the objective world, but the problem is once we start using these “invented” concepts, we distance ourselves from the objective world. Hence, concepts and objective reality are totally different, we should not fetter ourselves by our invented concepts.
In a Mahāyāna context, we call this prapañca, it may also connote “elaboration” or “superimposition,” especially in the sense of a fanciful, imagined, or superfluous quality that is mistakenly projected on to an object, resulting in its being misperceived.
Such projections are described as manifestations of ignorance (AVIDYĀ). The purpose of Buddhist practice in one sense can be described as the recognition and elimination of prapañca in order to see reality clearly and directly.
Thus, we arrive at a conclusion. A second (and very different) principal
denotation of dharma, "all dharmas are without self". In modern English, it means "all phenomena are without imaginary selves," or "all phenomena are without eternal, ultimate, independent and intrinsic existence".
In case someone doesn't know, the word "phenomena" in the field of philosophy means an immediate object of sensation or perception (often as distinguished from a real thing or substance); a phenomenal or empirical object (as opposed to a thing in itself).
For example,
all things in this universe are in constant change, no matter when. New stars are being born, eventually stars burn out, stars with huge masses become black holes, even black holes themselves evaporate, nothing is permanent. And this mode of constant changing, known as “impermanence” in Buddhism is one of the phenomena of this universe.
@@dharmachakrawheelofthedhar6334 Thank you again. My understanding is very limited, but I go back again again to the Diamond, Platform, Prajnaparamita, and Heart Sutras. I have listened to your recordings hundreds of times. I really beleive that these Sutras are the pinnacle of human wisdom. Miigwech.
Dharma is “ Lifeish”
