    Note: Almost one year to the day that this video was posted, Polaroid released a new film type called Polaroid Go. It is about the same width as Instax Mini, but in a square aspect ratio. The film costs $19.99 for two 8-shot packs. You can watch my video on the new camera/film here: ruclips.net/video/b0FT9T60lrk/видео.html

    Definitely one of the best videos explaining the instant films available right now. So packed with information, knowledge, analysis and humour! Absolutely a fun watch! Can see you have done extensive research and are very knowledgeable and passionate about instant films and cameras. I nodded so much when I watched this that my head almost fell off.
    I own a few of the cameras you showed and use all of them except the Instax Square and the Polaroid 8 x 10, so it is really great knowing there are a group of people out there sharing the same passion and interest in these fun analog photography. Really enjoyed this video. Keep the great work up, and thank you Ben!

    Recent discovered your channel and I love it, great videos. I'm using instant photography for almost 50 years and have seen many formats come and go. Except the 8 x 10 I use all current available formats depending on my needs or purpose. I visited the "Impossible Factory" back in 2011. It's an impressive experience. Already looking forward to the next video, keep on the good work.

    The production of these video’s are just 👏🏻 the research and writing then broken down with the animations and talking head segments are so informative but not loving winded and confusing! It’s a shame they’ve only got 2.2k subs (as of this comment) ‘cause I feel like they could break down ANY creative product and I’d feel so confident in their breakdown of the product and its functions! Great video, I really like your production level!
    By the way, while there aren’t many cameras for the Instax Square format, there’s a great solution for shooting the format with an SLR medium format camera in the form of a interchangeable back for the Mamiya RB67 by Coyote Camera Works.
    The image quality of the Mamiya lenses blows out of the water any other Instax camera and the SLR framing and focusing is perfect.
    It’s a nice choice for photographers that want something other than the usual instant experience.

      @InAnInstant  4 года назад

    If Fuji would release an Instax Bluetooth printer like the Mini, I’d be all over it. That’s the format I really want as I like shooting Fuji cameras (not the plastic ones); the Mini has the right rectangular shape, but are tiny pics for teens with toy-looking cameras. Props for Fuji identifying a market and going with it, it seems to have worked, although in the world of teens, being “cool” is fickle. But it has carried them through to now, when adults might be more ready to embrace Instant film again. Like flares and disco music... perhaps? You don’t have to hide your Abba and BeeGees vinyl collection anymore.
    I seriously considered getting an Instax 500af, but realistically know I can’t afford it, and am self-conscious enough I probably wouldn’t end up using it much. All I really want is an Instax Wide printer for my Fuji camera.

    Instax wide is so much more of a viable format now with the release of the Lomograflok. Not only do you have access to 98% of 4x5 cameras but DIY conversions with old Polaroids or even 3D printed bodies. This really opens up a lot of opportunities for Instax film so long as Fuji wants to keep Wide around

    • @InAnInstant

      I know! And the beauty is you don't have to choose. Something that's definitely delightful about an Instax print is it's much more "real time" than Polaroid. • @InAnInstant
      @InAnInstant  4 года назад +5

      Hey Andrew! While Polaroid has reverted to its original brand name, it's still the same company with the same people and the same information at their disposal as it was when The Impossible Project became "Polaroid Originals" in 2017. They didn't newly acquire any assets, Polaroid and Polaroid Originals were owned by the same folks. A lot of the chemistry was "lost" amidst the OG Polaroid going defunct in 2008. Many of the chemicals and components used to produce the original film ceased production and cannot return because companies are defunct and environmental laws prohibit it. That all being said, the formula they built back up from scratch at The Impossible Project is still being ever-improved by Polaroid and as of the 2/20 batch, people have been pretty psyched by the progress. Myself included!

    Actually the Instax SQ10 is a sweet camera (if you like hybrids, that is) with a nice 28.5 mm lens at F2.4.

    • @InAnInstant
      @InAnInstant  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, analog purists aren't big on that hybrid deal. The digital camera element/screen is a real put off (it's essentially just a digital camera with a printer), but I can understand why many users would not care about such a thing and prefer to look at exactly what they're shooting. While a swath of film folks will never buddy up to tech like that, it might be what Fuji has to do to survive going forward.

      Hi Frederic! I haven't noticed any fading on the modern Polaroid prints. If kept out of direct sunlight/properly stored, they should be fine for years to come!

    4 years later but I genuinely believe that if Fuji didn't make their cameras look like a Fisher Price toy, they'd be on top. I simply love the way the Polaroid cameras look, and even the newer ones look way better than what Fuji cooks up in their lab

      Peter Gault Certainly true with me.
      I went back to photography thanks to lockdown making retirement even more limited and found this channel while looking for tips on my beloved SX-70. What happens is I wind up tracking down a refurbished 680 and a Fuji 500AF after going through the series so far.
      I’ve got to admit in spite of the learning curve that makes for a number of photos I’m trying to coax my dog to nibble, I’m having a ball. Each camera has its charms. And I’m having a ball learning to use them.
      My dog clearly thinks I’m nuts, but she loves me anyway and sometimes poses for me . . . if you can call napping posing.

      I love this Joan! And love that you got back into photography. My bad for leading you toward those purchases 😂 but I can tell you’re loving those cameras, such an awesome experience learning how to master those things. And I’m sure your dog is doing its best at modeling 🐕

      If you remove the battery, you can dispose of the plastic container into the recycling and put the batteries in a battery disposal.

      Hi Manuel! No, the camera is widely regarded as just a marketing ploy, it is not superior to others like it (just a licensing deal).

    • @InAnInstant
      @InAnInstant  3 года назад +1

      Hi Sashi! Polaroid chemistry benefits from being stored in a consistent, cool temperature. If it isn't, the film will show more faults more quickly.

    Quick question: approximately how much can you save on Polaroid's rewards program percentage-wise? I found a local option for 600 film that could be slightly cheaper than the 75 EUR / 40-pack (plus shipping across the EU) they're selling it for, but this could flip the scale, and honestly, I'd just love to support them directly even though all film comes from them in the end.

    • @DeeSnow97
      @DeeSnow97 4 года назад

      Answering my own question because I just impulse bought an Impulse AF: it's about 20 EUR on every other five pack of film. Also, shipping is around 15 EUR across the EU unless you buy a camera which sadly negates the benefit, so I guess I'm gonna go with my local dealer. At least the gateway drug is coming in the same package as the camera though.

    • @InAnInstant
      @InAnInstant  4 года назад +1

      The rewards program is pretty powerful. Seems that the high shipping cost in the EU is a bit of a problem though, so I think you're going the right route unless you were making a major bulk purchase, in which you'd earn quite a hefty reward that would compensation for the shipping cost.

    FerGudsSake... hitting me with the cheaper, more cameras, glass lenses, better colour chemistry for instax and fuji and JUST when I think I’ve made up my mind... then hits me in the feels with, independent creatives in the Netherlands, dedicated to the arts...other one is a big corporation, probably not very dedicated to its workers or the environment... great...right in the feels 😵

    • @InAnInstant
      @InAnInstant  4 года назад +1

      That's really the fundamental and existential question when choosing who you're going to support in this medium! But also, the beauty is you can just shoot both and everybody wins 😅 except your wallet 😳

    • @Sabundy
      @Sabundy 4 года назад

      I think it's a bit unfair to call Fujifilm a nameless and faceless corporation. If you look up their history and how they developed as a company originally, and then later adapted and pivoted in all the ways both Kodak and Polaroid failed to do. Fujifilm actually took all their film knowledge, expertise, and patents and used them to make photo copiers, printers, cosmetics and skin care products (turns out instant film and skin have a lot in common), and medical equipment (such as x-ray machines, ultra sound machines, MRI etc) you will come away with a lot of respect for Fujifilm as a company. There is reason they are still a multi billion dollar company while their peers are all shadows of their former selves.
