Hey quick advise from a professional who drives big trucks with manual transmission (Double H 18 gears) for a living. Under normal circumstances i usually start (when fully loaded) with gear 2, go up to 4, change gear group and then 5,6,7,8. if i am empty i start on 4 low go up to 5 high and then either 7 low or 6 high and after that onto 8. or else youre shifting way to much. The gear 1 is only there for manouver or when you need much power and not alot of speed.
Bicycles have a lot more gears than 12, usually, and people don't really use the very first either, @@_Z1PEX_ Just look at it like a bike and you'll get it.
I know you showed the gears like that for the purpose of the video, but you can skip gears even if you are loaded. It's faster and less hand movement. Also, i recommend to bind the High/low or split to some button on the other side of the wheel than you shifter is, so you can keep your hand on shifter and don't reach for the button as you do and simply do it with other hand while still holding the wheel :D
Both the range and the splitter are "preselect" in real life, so I don't know what you're talking about. You can switch both of them while in gear without any problems.
@@handlesrtwitterdontbelivethem you can switch the range before shifting and it will change once you depress the clutch. Same with the splitter, say you're driving on 6th gear and you press the splitter, then depress the clutch and bring it up and now you're on 6 1/2 gear
One thing about Simple Automatic: If the engine shuts down for any reason, the vehicle will brake very hard, regardless of the speed you're driving on. This is especially important when dealing with TruckersMP, since you might brake check someone by accident if the engine dies at very unfortunate moment. For this very reason it's important to make sure that the truck isn't damaged and that you don't run out of fuel while driving.
This was actually exactly the kind of video I was looking for. I live in America so unless you are a trucker the average transmission type used is automatic. And I do want to get a wheel for this game but because I don't know how to drive manual at all I wasn't sure how the clutch itself would actually work. And this video seemed to show not only how to use it in this game but I'm pretty sure those same principles apply to the real world. Essentially, ets2 and ats using sequnetial manual will teach me how to drive a manual transmission car lol. At 41, never too old to learn something new.
When I got Logitech G293 with the shifter I didn’t know how to start moving cause I always stalled it but I learned how to start moving by myself. But for all this time I thought I was doing it wrong until I watched this. Thanks Tony
Nice video, however if you dont have a clutch, don't map a button/pedal press and the game will automatically use a clutch for you so you can drive a manual truck with a h-shifter. Regards
Thank you so much! This helped me a lot. I used to have my wheel set up like how you said but at one point the cable to my wheel died and I stopped using it, recently I got a new cable and just couldn't remember how I had it set up. There was a video I watched but I couldn't find it again. Even though I have a clutch, I prefer the game clutch for me. Thank you so much!
If you have a shifter I reccomend you to go to the nearest service and change your transmission to 6-speed. I tried both 12-speed and 6-speed transmissions. Here're the details: 12-speed transmission: + Has 5 levels of retarder. Easier to slow down the truck without service break. + Slightly better with very heavy cargos and climbing the hills. - Very narrow ranges on low gears. Basically you need to shift up almost every second up to 8th or 9th gear. - You need to push the shifter toggle button and press the clutch pedal for the gear changes and it's boring to do it every time. 6-speed transmission + Very easy to use. + Gear ranges are logical. When you slow down to make a sharp turn you sihft down to 2nd gear and it makes all the sense. With a 12-speed transmission 8th or 9th gear is enough. + You don't need to push a toggle button. It's more natural - Has 3 levels of retarder. 5 level is more fun. - Acceleration is not as good as 12-speed transmission on heavy cargos but definitely maximum speed is NOT slower than 12-speed transmission.
At the time of this comment I'm currently installing a custom made motor ( designed and engineered by me ) into my wheel and it's still in bits so I'm using my keyboard and when I play ets2 on my keyboard I tend to use real automatic as I feel more comfortable with it but when I use my wheel I use H-shifter
Funny how the game forced me to use range splitter, because it put me in a scania for a heavy haul and the first two gears were C1 and C2, then 1-4, and if I jumped to the other range the truck got into 11 or 12. That was a miserable experience until I setup the realistic shifter option and suddenly I found the other gear between 4 and 11. After that I had so much fun with the range splitter setup, dont even want to go back now
good video friend thanks for the explanation Could you make a video explaining how to start on very difficult steep climbs or slopes, both in ETS 2 and ATS 2?
Having a problem on the A7 shifter on ETS2. When i tried to bind the reverse gear(i pressed the shifter on neutral going to reverse), it replaces my 6th gear. Same goes if i bind 6th gear it replaces my Reverse gear bind. I don't know how to fix it.
Odd no simple toggle from low to high when i drove Years ago,Mecedes selected high and low by just going side to side across neutral,Scania had a button under the gear knob both where just a once only toggle switch example 6 high 6 low but to have to toggle every shift is just horrible as shown here but yes it works i guess.

Thanks for you explaination video. I have two questions, actually now. 1. While togling I thought means switching between two settings, there are two toggle buttons available. How does one switch back to the first 6 gearlevels. Again pressing Toggle 1.? So what for is the Togle 2 button? 2. Do I understand correct, one does always only connect only the first 6 gearbuttons and the reversegear button? Thanks for your reply, if possible.
In Range or Split mode, you only need 1 toggle to swap between the set of low number gears and high number gears (or even gears and odd gears). In Scania 12+2 mode, 1 toggle swaps between the low number gears and high number gears just like before, the second toggle allows you to swap between the L and H gears within a single number. 1 toggle swaps between the gear numbers, the other swaps between the gear letters. To get from 1L to 1H you'd only hit 1 toggle, to get from 3H to 4H you'd do the other toggle, to get from 3H to 4L, you'd toggle both. AFAIK the reverse gear is on one of the layouts in Range and Split, and is in both layouts in 12+2.
Can you please send or show/describe your graphics settings? Thank you in advance and for this fantastic video. I use a Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition wheel. ❤❤💕💕
On my Logitech g920 shifter it also has 6 positions and I use up all of them, but on the g920 shifter there is a 7th position for reverse, to go into the 7th position you push down the gear stick them put it in the 6th gear position, that will put it in reverse. It's just like the Nissan 350z manual I think
Nice video thanks. On the Scania layout that you showed at 6:19, how come they only use 3 of 6 gear positions (particularly why isn't the top middle position used)? Is it just easier to drive that way? Just wondered, thanks.
Well the setup he used is a bit unrealistic, the real life Scania 12 speed is an automatic, doesn't come in manual. but there is the 12+2 transmission which does come in manual, and that uses 5 positions, reverse, the first 2 gears are crawler gears that are very low ratio so you can have easy starts on uphills if you are carrying heavy weight, then the rest are normal driving gears like he showed. that's how the Scania engineers made it, Volvo is similar but diffirent layout
because its easier to understand if you have 6 gears that are split in the middle then 4 split in 3 or 8 where 4 are split and the other 4 are not. by doing it like this they made it so you have 3 positions with 2 gears on every position and each gear being split into 2. forcing the 4th one in there would make the shifter needlessly complicated.
I got a question on how to repair one thing. Even tho I try to go straight my truck turns in one or the other direction. Idk how it happened but its really annoying. It also started turning really weird. Please help
The Kids in the front: 6 Gears, 1 Clutch Pedal, No Toggle Kids in the middle: 12 Gears, 1 Clutch Pedal, 1 Toggle kids in the back: 24 Gears, 5 Clutch Pedals, 17 Toggles, 13 Reverse Gears, 4 Copies of ETS 3 Everyone who is reading this, please have a nice day ❤
you can engine brake by changing down gears or you just use the retarder. if just wanting to come to a hold you can just use the brake. though you would make the engine turn off. to avoid that just press the clutch. and if you dont want to hold the clutch while braking just press the clutch put the gearbox in neutral and brake normally
Why does mine start with c1 and so on? I mean, I got used to it with 2 toggles but how do you get 1to6 instead of my c1 to 4 then 5 to10 and thennnn 11 and 12
You've probably already fixed it by now but just incase I'll say it's because you have 12 + 2 speeds and C1,C2 and the +2 speeds. Just change to a normal 12.

Hi man, I'm really stuck because I have H-shifter and iv the clutch with 6 gears but the truck is stuck in neutral and it's not seeing I'm putting truck into first gear and gently pressing the accelerator

@@UnremarkableViqui If you've ever driven a car you know you don't have to shift down through the gears when you're braking for a stop... Let the rpm fall to idle in the gear you're currently in, then put it into neutral and just stop lol.
This guy is still on Windows 10 (2015/2016) version. It’s not common to have that version of Windows in 2022. Support ended for that version of windows.
If you have assigned clutch and you're using H-shifter pattern, press and hold the clutch pedal while changing gear. At the moment, it's possible to preselect the gear. The game will switch the gear once you press the clutch pedal. In case of real automatic, switch the shifter to "Drive", or "Reverse" position to get out of neutral. In case of simple automatic and you're completely stationary, if you're in reverse gear, stop holding the acceleration key, then press it again to move forward. If you're in forward gear and you want to go into reverse, do the same thing in relation to the key used for applying the brake. Make sure that game's developer console is not open as it will disable all controls while the console window is open, regardless of the controller type.

@@UnremarkableViqui If you've ever driven a car you know you don't have to shift down through the gears when you're braking for a stop... Let the rpm fall to idle in the gear you're currently in, then put it into neutral and just stop lol.
@@tommeiner9983 I guess I must not have known that since I asked the question.
Just hold the clutch when you're braking then downshift to whatever gear you need
i changing gears between 1500-2000 rpm
This guy is still on Windows 10 (2015/2016) version. It’s not common to have that version of Windows in 2022. Support ended for that version of windows.

Wasn't it with the H-Shifter that when you stand and you're in gear and don't press the clutch the truck stalls?

My gear not changing from neutral.. How to fix?
Where is the link for the h shifter
Why does my truck stay in low speed in every gear
because you arent using the splitter?
