Don't be downtrodden man. I'm an aspiring landscape photographer trying to break into it professionally and watching your content is so inspiring. Thank you so much and keep up tour incredible work.
Enjoyed this - wish we had snow here in York. A lens hood would keep a lot of the snow off the front of your lens! It beats me why so many photographers on RUclips don't use lens hoods.
I also get excited when I hear that bead weather is on the way. It makes me want to rush to my beloved Blue Ridge Mountains and see how much more dramatic and picturesque the landscape will become.
to be able to see you zooming in and framing the subject as you are explaining your thoughts is wonderful technology and entertaining at the same time.
You are definitely an inspiration Henry, your perseverance paid off if all you had was a few decent shots, I think that you got more. I particularly enjoyed your shot of the one stand out tree and the faint suggestions of more trees in the distance
I gasped in surprise when I saw your first photo of that gorgeous tree at the beginning of the video. It has such character. I would love to get a copy of it. And I found your final photo was very atmospheric. It reminded me of an old painting. Almost sepia.
Oh my goodness Henry, those shots were beautiful! I have been waiting all winter for snow and unfortunately we haven't had any this year so far. Love your adventures!
Just back from the Cairngorms before the big snows came myself. If you had kept on up the track a little further you would have got to the Ryvoan Bothy - a lovely little traditional bothy in the pass with the mountains on either side some possible opportunities there 🙂
Another great video Henry with very nice images near the end. I need to ask this....why don't you use the lens hood to help keep the snow/rain off the front element?
I understand how you feel. There is a shot I took several years back that was average at best, but with some atmosphere, I think it would be great. I have gone back dozens of times when snow, rain, or fog has been predicted, but always seems to be too little or too much. That is why this is a genre that requires great patience and perseverance. Enjoy all of your videos. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Cheers.
Grumbling , complaining you are a true photographer Henri 😂 Playing with shutter speed adds so much atmosphere. I like the 16/9 for the atmosphere. I have experienced this feeling to be in a place with the right conditions but not finding a really good subject , moaning, complaining as a good photographer 😂 Nice to be with you in this new adventure.
Ahh, reminds me of someone I know who packed everything apart from the gas bottle, went up the mountain and discovered his mistake. He came back down and there it was on his van roof…. Epic adventure today and really great explanation. 👍👏
Another great adventure Henry. Regarding the spoon, you should have gone into a cafe and had a cup of coffee and a bacon roll and explained to them that you had left home and forgotten your spoons and asked them for a tablespoon and teaspoon, I can guarantee that they would have given you them. Loved the 16-9 shot. Look forward to seeing the next one.. Take care and drive safe.
@@HenryTurnerphoto you're pretty hard on yourself sometimes but that is just the passion you have for landscape photography. Your images are off the chart mate, can't wait for the next adventure
As per usual fantastic photos and video, i especially like the lone tree, just wondering why you dont use a lens hood, considering those conditions? love your work can't wait until the next adventure.
You got some lovely shots and produced a very good video for us to enjoy. You probably felt 'down' not because of your photography, but because you were hungry, thirsty and probably cold. In those conditions you really need to look after yourself, not just your equipment.
That picture at 19:25 is stunning though! Don't feel down about it, it was a good video to watch anyway! And I bet it was nice to be there! We had some snow the last few days but it won't stay. No snow pictures for me this winter!
It's funny how we can put all this pressure on ourselves when the conditions are good and come away feeling flatter than when conditions are more ordinary....FOMO I guess...the feeling we are missing our chance. I really enjoyed your images at the end in the snowfall though, and you took us on a wonderful journey, so I hope you're feeling better about your experience now Henry!
A nutcase after my own heart. Wonderful shots. The need for me to have a place to warm up, get comfy, make a coff coff, would surely help too. Oh for a Blue Jay!! I think I live in the only part of the UK that has not seen any white stuff over the last few days. Just persisting down here in West Sussex.
Totally know what you mean. I just couldn't get The Bridge of Grudie tree to work. Ended up cropping all of Slioch out and ended up with some ridiculous wide pano, that actually quite works. Annoyed at not being able to find a comp at one of the easiest places and trees on Loch Maree I had a brew in the van, crossed the road and walked down the little path towards the river. It was late afternoon with the sun behind. There was one perfectly shaped pine catching the light, an okay s bend in the river, and the magnificent Slioch behind with lovely clouds above just beginning to take on some colour and also shadows on Slioch hillside from the clouds further East. Just goes to show, I went for the classic shot of the tree and bend in the road. Got a bit angry about failing, had a brew in the van and captured possibly my favourite shot of my Torridon trip.
Hmm… big flakes, heavy snow. How about the Rockies. I love it when you get the white frosty coating over everything. It’s so magical and perfect for b&w.
What a fantastic and different prospective on snowy photography. I have to say Henry my kind of photography! Keep your chin up and don't dispare. All the best.
Banging video Henry, found it very interesting when you took the shot when the snow was belting down, similar conditions to last night near us and yup it works to get the good shot
That shot at 19;25 is amazing looks like a painting. Great colour jacket could not have chosen better for.my own videos 🤣 amazing conditions hope to visit Scotland once in snowy conditions. Grt guido
Great photos Henry, the 16x9 was my favourite. I'm currently down by the beach (due to go home today) and you'll be pleased to know that for the past couple of days I've given myself a shove and gotten up before sunrise and gone out to take photographs, and I'm feeling chirpy about getting the results. 😊
Fantastic job Henry, loved the 16 x 9 shot, your out there doing it that's the main thing.....I have always said its your enthusiasm that keeps me going so long may it continue.
Interesting location Henry as we have just come out of summer in Australia with heatwave & bushfire conditions...I always enjoy seeing the compositions in snow & forest so I loved your pics & comments.... thanks for sharing..... cheers 😀
Mr. Henry Turner! Hi Mate! Great to see you out and about in the BlueJay! Although it made me a little nervous at how close it was parked on side of the road, in those slick conditions! You achieved some nice images, IMHO. I am soooooo jealous of the white stuff. We haven’t had any of it this year. Even though where I live is not known for heavy snow, we usually get a little, but it seems like we haven’t even had many cold temps? You know where I live as you sent me your latest Calendar. 😃 Hope you get to enjoy that ‘spoon!’ Hah! Enjoy these types of videos, and killer drone footage. Cheers Henry! Stay safe! 👍🙏✌📷😊
Henry that van should be ready to go mate, it should have a set of cutlery that never leaves, a plate/bowl and mug and you should have about 2 days worth of camp food (noodles, brew kits snacks ect) as a back up in case you get stuck! especially if your chasing bad weather conditions. Stay safe man and keep up the good work. It's not a wasted day if you've had fun!
Ah Henry, welcome to the world of us mere mortals.. lol ..i constantly forget things and also find difficulty finding a composition...you are great to share your failings....a lot of professionals dont like doing that. You're a star. Plus your images were great
Good stuff Henry, I actually liked all of the shots, and the 16:9 versus the square crop? Well, both worked well for me actually, but for different reasons. Thirteen quid for a spoon, outrageous!! Look forward to next week's adventure....
I think you should have kept going along the track to Ryvoan bothy. The pines up there are more scattered and easier to make into groups IMHO. Plus you could have eaten in the bothy instead of going back to the van! :-) But I liked the first long zoom shot of the light on the far hills.
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean in Atlanta! Thank you for this video! What a beautiful site to see snow! We did not receive any snow this year here in Atlanta, and at the end of last month, I actually had to run my air-conditioner! That’s the first time in February that I’ve had to run the air in my entire life! I love Autumn and Winter, especially for photography and the lighting these times of year provide! It’s hilarious you forgot your cutlery! Haha, you should stash some in your van! I’ll shut up for now. Excellent video and I always love your photography. Take care. Sean
I am always inspired by your commitment and mindset of pressing on. Also, it is a comfort to be reminded that even the seasoned professional photographer has less than stellar days. As I've said before, it's easier for me to not be so hard on myself when I come home with nothing. But you, however, did come home with some keepers. Hey, 13 pounds for a spoon; that's scandalous. Be well, Henry. Catch you on the next one.
Megapixels are free. Shoot away. Granted not every shot is going to be a gem but I find I'll always get a couple great pictures out of 70 or 80 shots. Many times the ones I didn't expect to be decent.
Henry mun, food but no spoon then spoon but no food, what a dilemma🤭 but hey the photos of the pines are just stunning. Thank you for putting yourself through all that for our entertainment, much appreciated mate. 👍😎
Just back in Northumberland after 4 days in the Fort William/Glencoe where I fought with sunshine and blue skies every day! Fantastic for my wife and the dog, horrible for me and the camera 🤷♂️
Hi Henry, more grand trips out and thanks for sharing ... I did wonder when you had forgotten the cutlery whether you'd go and grab the engine oil indicator out of the engine bay, you remember, the dipstick .. what are you like! .. but as for £13 for a spoon mate, I hope it was gold plated for that money. More super photos again, and stop being hard on yourself, you're doing great! ... and when you get home, get a knife, fork and spoon from the house in the glovebox, so next time you'll not be short of "eating irons". Comedy quote of the week " most of the light is in the sky!"
Hello! Many thanks for the channel, been watching lots of you videos whilst I'm in the Philippines, in 2 days back to north yorkshire. I bought a phone, just for the camera, although I use a d7100. The phone is a realme 7 pro, which shoots in raw, a 1.8 lens, but only a midrange price. I still use lightroom on the phone for post, and really happy with it.
Fair play to you Henry! You travelled all that way, you weren't feeling it but you still plodded on regardless and got some beauts! No need to be hard on yourself! You got out there and that's the main thing! But I feel your pain and frustration when you just can't find the shot you envisaged! Keep up the great work ma man and keep doing what yer doing - we're all enjoying it (even when you're not!). Next time you're up in the Highlands and having brain freeze, give me a shout and I'll point you in the direction of some wee gems of places to get your mojo going overdrive! 😂👍🏻
I always enjoy your videos , and I love those last 2 photos. The next time you are out don't forget your gut tools, that spoon must have been made of gold. Keep well Henry until next time.
To be honest - you captured the feel of the weather and the atmosphere in the ones you displayed :-) . I wasn't brave enough to take the Z5 out last week and opted for phone shots :-(
Fantastic photos that you did get Henry ! well worth the rumbling belly ! Its quality over quantity in these situations ! how did the gloves and gear in general cope with the conditions ? take care man
Great 16:9 shot Henry. Bet you enjoyed playing around with shutter speeds to get the desired effect, (this is the sort of thing that makes photography enjoyable for me). Always amazed at how you produce great photos even when you feel not quite 100%, You reminded me of the American Storm Chashers as you drove North in search of the predicted snow (plenty snow here now as I type this in Yorkshire, so out with camera tomorrow to try some winter shots). Only a quality titanium spoon for you Henners😂 Bet you couldn't wait for the morning after, looking forward to the next episode and thanks for inspiring and sharing.
Timeless images in final pics - perfect snowfall rendition, Henry. Why such a big spoon? Small plastic one from fast-food purchase should have sufficed, no? More snow forecast, I understand (as of vid posting day) - another go? Cheers!
Those were very good shots Henry. I mentioned on my channel in November how it was end of season for me here in Canada (Ontario) as winter photography here is incredibly hard. By that I mean really hard to find a composition. I tried going out once already and did not succeed as my photos were garbage. I'm dying to get out I might give it another try, but my optimism isn't the greatest. Again good on you for getting those good shots in such bleak weather conditions.
Hi Henry, loving your adventures & photos, i have gear coming from MPB today Friday 10th & the even better thing is they gave me a quote for the gear i was selling & after they checked it they upped what they payed me by £25 win win :)
I'm guessing you got a little down because you didn't take time to eat after getting that wonderful new spoon! Food before snowflakes next time Henry!! Or find a stick to carve. Wait - you forget a knife too?!!! Images and atmosphere were great fun anyway.
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Yo Henry!!! :-) I have some catching up to do!! I've got a half dozen vids to watch!! Anyway, first things first. DID YOU CHECK YOUR GLOVE BOX for a set of disposable cutlery from take-away??? I thought EVERYONE had plastic cutlery in their glove box‽‽🤔 Second... MPB ("MmmmPeanutButter"... so you can remember the initials) I've used them a few times. Customer Service came through in a sticky situation AND... I received a macro lens JUST TODAY! I'm excited! Now... finally.... WHAT GORGEOUS IMAGES man!!! I PARTICULARLY like the 16:9! I just had a strong sense of ALONE-NESS!! Excellent job, man... EXCELLENT! Cheers, bro!!!
"Henry buys a spoon" is definitely the title of a children's book 😂
Yeah, I would read that.
That’s simply perfect.
Gotta be careful with titles. That sound's like a pamphlet that the drug squad puts out so that parents can tell what drug paraphernalia looks like. 🤔
Don't be downtrodden man. I'm an aspiring landscape photographer trying to break into it professionally and watching your content is so inspiring. Thank you so much and keep up tour incredible work.
I appreciate that!
Top marks for perseverance and some good shots too. In rain/snow I’d put a lens hood on to provide some protection.
Loved "spoongate"! We all have days when we walk through inspiring landscapes but return with nothing but an enjoyable walk.
The 16x9 falling snow shot is fantastic. You should be very happy with that.
Enjoyed this - wish we had snow here in York. A lens hood would keep a lot of the snow off the front of your lens! It beats me why so many photographers on RUclips don't use lens hoods.
Pure therapy! Thank you Henry. You really captured the peace and tranquility of the snowy scenes.
Please don’t be down. Yet again inspirational and educational content. Thank you again for sharing
No need to feel down about that photo session, you got some fine shots and perhaps best of all you had us feeling like we were there with you.
13 pounds for a spoon. Yep. My wallet felt a tug. Best to keep dedicated silverware in the van I'm thinking.
I also get excited when I hear that bead weather is on the way. It makes me want to rush to my beloved Blue Ridge Mountains and see how much more dramatic and picturesque the landscape will become.
Couple of lovely shots. And you have a spoon. So win win. Great video.

Many thanks!

Thank you for sharing your adventures, knowledge, and struggles with us!
I liked the snowy pine tree image Henry, loads of atmosphere.

Some pretty nice shots Henry, always an experience with you, thank you!
Wot! no spoon, what a wally, again😄. Making the most of the conditions and finding some fine shots, it's what you do, keep it up
Loved the shots Henry. Know what? There's a "painting" vibe in them and they do ilustrate the place you took us. Congratz
Thanks a lot!
Fantastic 16x9, Henry. And, you had the joy of being there and experiencing it firsthand, so don’t be too hard on yourself!
Man...man...man...man....!!! Great vlog.. loved the image at the end man.....well done... 😉
The last two images are very captivating and mystical. Great job Henry.

As always, thanks for bringing us along for the adventure!
Another good one. Some nice shots there. I liked the second last one. (The wider version) Thanks again. 👍
13:01 fantastic song that (spoonman)! And since I'm here commenting, have fun with the aeropress ;)
Great video as always.
Another great video Henry with very nice images near the end. I need to ask this....why don't you use the lens hood to help keep the snow/rain off the front element?

I'm dying to get out I might give it another try, but my optimism isn't the greatest. Again good on you for getting those good shots in such bleak weather conditions.
Where in Ontario are you? I’m just east of Toronto in Durham Region and there are many places. It’s about seeing and finding compositions.
@@dx3200 I'm in Ottawa. More snow here makes it difficult, but I try.
Henry, what you need for your van is a spork.
Hi Henry, loving your adventures & photos, i have gear coming from MPB today Friday 10th & the even better thing is they gave me a quote for the gear i was selling & after they checked it they upped what they payed me by £25 win win :)
Sounds great!
What a ding a ling! Put a combo knife (with spoon) in the glove box. LOL.
Been there done it, used a lens cap instead of a spoon 😂
I'd be happy just to see a proper fall of snow ...
