    I imagine the difficulty involved in training sonar operators in these subs. Technology has helped filter sounds, but it comes down to the trained ears of these submariners to accurately track and locate targets. My hats off to them.

    Imagine how submarine hunting is changing as you add to the equation, drone submarines, enhance sonar, various airborne platforms to include P-8 Poseidon, SH-60 LAMPS, etc. Then imagine what happens when you can tie all that sensor information (strategic and tactical) together in real time and share with your fellow platforms. That will transform submarine warfare.

    every system on a submarine can be controlled remotely, and if remotely controlled many systems can be removed to save weight. Also it’ll allow them to go deeper and further when fully autonomous

  • @charlessmith263
    @charlessmith263 2 месяца назад

    In movies, although I am not planning to be the captain of a sub during warfare, I think I got some of the verbiage of this type of warfare. Take "Crimson Tide", and these movie lines.......
    "All ahead flank - right full rudder!" -
    This means you will propel the sub strongly forward at a max speed, and you turn your rudder to the R to make the sub go right as a flanking maneuver, especially when an enemy tube is about to hit your sub from behind.
    "Ship to rudder to left full!"
    This means you will turn your rudder to the L, making the sub turn L, with full propulsion drive also.
    "Full" means maximum speed possible on the sub.
    "4-inch evasion device"
    On modern subs, especially nuke subs, this was a distraction explosive device that was launched out of the sub as a countermeasure against torpedos. They look something like depth charges, and when they explode, they force the path of the torpedo to go off course in a way that it does not impact the ship, or, if the torpedo impacts close, the damage to the sub would be minimal at best.

    depends on what you mean by fast but... active sonar does not show you where the target is when you send out a pulse but when it reflects the pulse so the delay in target position is the same as with passive sonar
    there is a delay from turning it on to receiving the first data that is equivalent to twice the distance by the speed of sound but with passive sonar that delay is zero so whichever way you put it passive sonar is NOT twice as fast

    The newest Virginia class Submarine has a magnetic Signature Reduction system on board. Aparently the system can decrease the entire ships magnetic signature on the fly or even point the signature in a different direction. It’s been so successful that they are retro fitting it onto the older blocks of Virginia’s. It’s a game changer for sure. Also they are adapting the AIM-9X missile to be fired from Virginia’s. So now when they are working in littoral waters any aircraft looking to identify them or attack them can be targeted and destroyed.

      besides, most torpedo's don't really rely on impact based explosives. also, the ping is as strong as an explosion but keep in mind that the strength decreases with range. if the ping is somehow strong enough to set off the torpedo its close enough that it wouldve hit you anyway.

    The Silent Service

  • @gicking3898
    @gicking3898 5 лет назад

    Very nicely put together. But I feel it's only a third of the issue. What about how submarines attack other ships, planes and land targets, and how ships and aircraft search for the subs?

    • @Sir_Budginton
      @Sir_Budginton 5 лет назад

      Submarines can attack other ships with either torpedoes or missiles. If the sub is deep down, it can detect the ship with its sonar, and launch torpedoes at it. If it is near the surface, it can also attack with missiles launched from either the torpedo tubes, or a vertical launch system if its got one.
      If it is at periscope depth, it can also detect enemy ships using its periscope (obviously), its ESM system (think of it as passive radar, it just detects the radar of other ships) or a radar of its own.
      Subs can attack land targets using cruise or ballistic missiles. However, I'm pretty sure they are defenceless against aircraft, and all they can really do in that situation is hide, run, and pray.
      Ships can detect subs using their sonar, and then launch torpedoes, or anti submarine helicopters. I know the Russians have a system where you basically have a torpedo attached to a rocket, the rocket is launched toward the sub, and then when over the sub the torpedo is released (with a parachute) and falls directly on top of the submarine. I don't know for certain if other nations have similar weapon systems, but I assume they do.
      Helicopters can drop a dipping sonar into the ocean to listen for subs, and then drop their torpedoes. Planes can drop sonar buoys, and then drop torpedoes of their own.

Significant adverse effects of long-term weightlessness include muscle atrophy and deterioration of the skeleton (spaceflight osteopenia), atleast on a sub u can surface most of the time and and get some earth air and sun. but in n a sub u gotta deal with no daylight and cramped conditions but alteast ur body doesnt go through that space stuff

    Covert Cabal whilst nobody can really fault the excellence of the information about the content included in the video but I was a little disappointed by the content that was not included in the video. I am talking about the latest AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) conventional submarines that are now appearing in the various navies worldwide. Particularly as these submarines may well be game changers due to there apparent super quietness. Perhaps this could warrant making a separate video on this subject?

    • @trick7039
      @trick7039 6 лет назад

      To be fair, all nuclear submarines are AIP by default. Though it is a significant change in the way diesels work, I don't think it would be necessary to make a separate video on that topic due to the fact most diesel submarines nowadays don't use them; with the exception of some Swedish submarines.

    Interesting fact for you......The mark of how far sound can travel is during an exercise with US/British naval forces, the brilliant RN Astute Class submarines lurking off the West coast of England detected US Navy ships leaving port on the East coast of the United States, allowing them a huge advantage right from the start Unsurprisingly, the US Navy wasn't happy about this... they were basically f*cked. It's nothing to be ashamed of though, the RN Astute submarines are the most sophisticated, dangerous and deadly in their class. 🇬🇧🇺🇸✌✌

      Yet took out the Iraqi military in hours.
      The US military will roll over any military force. It just can't handle a guerilla war.

      Devilion901 media is the major contributor of USA loosing support in Vietnam war not because they were massacred by Vietcong that’s why the media now is too biased because the government dictates what they can show to the public so that they won’t loose the support of the people Vietcong lost around 1 million men US lost close to around 200k

    • @benghazi3754
      @benghazi3754 6 лет назад

      Transparency is the contributor. The media just showed the reality of what was happening. Real journalism so to speak.
      And that Vietnam lost 1 million men is one thing, they are fighting for their countries freedom.
      That the US lost 200k men just because communism shouldn't spread to some small non important country is more "aggravating". Doesn't matter which side you're on in my mind.
      But I agree that now the main stream media in the US is just rubber stamping the policy of the government when it comes to war and conflicts. But to be fair it isn't the government opinion but the opinion of the military industrial complex, which has bought both the government and the media in the US.

    Magnetic Anomaly Detectors (MAD) are not new... They've been used to detect submarines since WWII and in fact the P-8 Poseidon (the latest generation ASW aircraft used by the US Navy) doesn't even include a MAD boom as more advanced methods of acoustic Submarine detection have been developed.

      With the P3, the saying was "if you can see the sub, you will pick it up on MAD gear."

    There are some ships out there who take no shit from anyone. A submarine is better off getting lost somewhere else far away from such ships. If not, it's game over.
