I am afraid that they have shot their reputation in the foot. Players will be leery of falling for another release, unless they fix the problems with this release. I will continue to play Reforged Eden and Star Salvage personally.
Agreed. I just don't understand what was wrong with their original main story, having The Legacy be the disturbing and unrelenting baddies that seem to be slowly eating up the galaxy. This seems like a huge mistake, as this 'dark faction' just seems too poorly thought out, too hastily implemented, and frankly, like they'd just watched or re-watched a bunch of classic sci-fi greats like Alien, Deep Star Six, The Expanse, etc, and tried to hastily riff off elements of those for the new assets they threw into this. Eleon should have sat down, planning this out so as not to completely undermine everything they'd implemented up to this point, and really also should have been doing alpha & beta tests for at least 2 to 6 months for improving things like the already-wonky AI, the reload-lag bug, and the choppy net-code that so often lead to horrible rubber-banding. I can think of several ways to retain the mainstory integrity, whilst still amping up the threat, but sadly this is what they pooped out and decided to serve up to everyone, still steaming with bugs and all. Somehow , it never occurred to them that if someone really wants to run around fighting xenomorphs, or something similar, in ground combat, both Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Starship Troopers: Extermination exist with simultaneously more and less bugs... 😉Disappointing. I'll stick with RE.
Spanj thank you for doing this series. I had high hopes that the DLC would raise the bar for the quality of updates we could expect in the future, but this looks like something they threw together in a rush. I don't know why they decided to release it in the state it was in. It wouldn't have been acceptable as a free game update, never mind a paid DLC. I hope they will fix it, because it is fixable, but it never should have needed fixing in the first place because it never should have went public in this state.
Thanks Spanj, I feel so sorry for you that you had to endorse and promote that thing. I cannot believe that someone took the decision to release that. It feels so empty and no work at all have been put into it. I have to give the credit to Eleon that at least they tryed something but trying without really working isn't enough.
If this product had been well done it would have boosted sales a lot, now it seems that people are going to not play the game due to the amount of bugs it has introduced. The developers really need to listen to their player base.
DLC has potential but it does seem it was rushed out too quick. It does have some good ideas like you said and hopefully they work on making it better and maybe add some to the regular game like the research desk. Needs a lot of work. Weapons are terrible. Need More Poi variants. PDA info and reason why to go to places.
On the complaint of 'picking a flower and learning a warp drive;' the head canon I came up with on the Purgatory scenario was: as I woke up from cyro-sleep (or crashed in a pod) I found out my blueprint database had corrupted and over time (ie. as I leveled) I could 'tell IDA' what files to focus on and 'recover.' So at least for me that is how I explained it. But with this DLC, as much as I do like supporting them, I do not like this DLC. With the DLC, as long as RE has been out how did they not use that as an idea of how to do what they wanted?
I suspect your suppose to assault the pillars for loot and not so much on the mining front, Problem of course is it really doesn't say that, or anything else for that matter. I suspect most of the Devs are programmers and are narrow focused on that, as most of in in depth programing bits are actually ok. Honestly they have needed a full time POI/Story/PDA person for a while dealing with that stuff every month.
I'm still glad I bought it but I admit I likely won't play it anywhere close to all the way though. Considering all the hours of gameplay I've gotten out of Empyrion I'd have been fine just flat out giving them that money. I do wish for the future of the company and the game it was more polished. I think they're just trying to do too many big ideas with too few people. I've been there and it's not a fun time. :)
I love Spanj's honesty at the end. I think with thier funcom deal, they were probably told they had to get a paid update out by X date. They should have added this content into the base the game but taken more time to develop it. PS. The fixes for this scenario will come in the form of a new £8 DLC.
What sunk it for me was when you decided to bypass retaking planets, as hopeless, and made for the homeplanet. I knew then that this would be just another game for people who like to rush to the end. Well, good for them I say but I can't and don't even want to do speed runs.
The lack of love and passion in the gaming industry is at an all time high. When video games were first introduced, they were created by programmers who not only wanted to push the boundaries of what they could do but also had the love of their craft. Now-a-days its about marketing and publicity and not about the projects themselves. Its a shame because games used to be a way for people to escape reality and enjoy a well crafted world (universe/lore/etc). I would just like to see money stop being the motivating factor behind studios putting out games and start to see it transition back to passion projects. When greedy mfkers saw how much the gaming industry makes, they wanted to take the money and stop putting out great pieces of art.
The games industry is no longer about making something innovative and fun. At the end of the day, it is a business and does need to make a return on investment, but if they're stripping out innovation and fun, I'm out!
I appreciate that you are not afraid to give your honest opinion on a game or DLC when it comes out and is just not up to snuff. It really is a shame that this software got pushed out the door before it was close to ready, but I still appreciate the playthrough!
Many game versions ago they had some free scenarios, but stopped updating them. Could make them work a bit longer by some console commands and override some triggers and such. Maybe that give a hint on how scenarios are treated. Now expect peoples to pay for a mediocre product.
+1 vote in thanking you for going through this. +1 vote in regards to this DLC "suggests" the promise of good things. I too doubt it. Do know, your venerable St03 is actually just the frame for this scenario! Well done and keep rocking!
It makes me really sad. EGS is my favorite game, I have thousands of hours in it. They've always needed to go back to the base game and fix the hitboxes, the shooting through walls, the AI that has a penchant for standing staring into a corner...there's so much work that needs to be done to make this a magnificent game and then they go and do this. F* this DLC, no one needs to play this crap. Get back to the main game Eleon.
I feel like the sad thing here is that even if they released this as a free scenario it wouldn't be very appreciated because of the actual execution and design. Fingers crossed they at least got funded enough from this DLC release to continue developing the base game to a good completion.
Yeah, sorta a death knell. With the broken stuff and the fact that nothing is useful in the rest of the game outside of the dlc., not a good direction. I'll play Reforged Eden, but that is probably going to be it for me. I won't trust anything from Eleon anymore, unless on some crazy whim, they FIX stuff. And oh boy! A new texture, Pepto-Bismol vomit. Somehow that's fitting for this dlc.
It’s a crying shame Eleon couldn’t quite get this together - maybe funcom, or what ever their name is, did not provide enough time and or money to complete user testing ?????? Maybe be it’s a case of scam game ?
I've discovered that after you destroy the Dark Pillar on any planet, including on Xenos, and the meteorites stop falling, if you leave the planet, or log out and log back in, a Dark Pillar reforms and that one cannot be destroyed. It is as though this DLC was not completed, or it is a "no win" scenario. I hate that. I'm sorry I bought it.

Oh boy am I glad I didn't buy that. Classical Eleon. It's insane to think that Ravien and Vermillion are basically the only reasons why this game still exists.
Oh well Funcom. Its the usual quality standard of these company i guess. Since i got burned by Anarchy Online wich was of course stunning after you could play it after a couple weeks without being disconnected after 2 minutes. I still remember the first logout because i needed to sleep. It was in Omni forest, and it was great. After they fixed these initial problems, there was a exploration phase, good and entertaining. With rising levels, there were like 200 of it, the game became boring, repetitive and all the small bugs killed me. If anyone remember a Meta with his 3 summons always losing one because of obstacles and too large collision frames. Got her to Level 167 however. Able to solo level 200 missions. Wich was needed at that point as the player base took a deep dive. I never again touched a Funcom game.
True this DLC is not worth a penny but the game itself has given me thousands of hours of enjoyment.. I don't mind giving them a few dollars for that entertainment value and to support future upgrade/fixes.
Its unfortunate, Empyrion has always had amazing ideas and core ideas for mechanics wrapped up with poor execution and refinement. I understand they are small team, but in todays day and age of amazing tools with many people putting out prebuilt mechanics that are incredibly more refined than this there is no excuse. If they lack the skill to refine things like enemy AI, fluid combat mechanics, etc. Then buy them and focus on making your wonderful ideas real.
0:30 Spanj, I hope you read this, don't buy NIGHTINGALE, it is God awful at the moment not to mention boring, clunky, badly optimized and always online, it just isn't worth it, I refunded on Steam after 1 hour, going back to Enshrouded. Game just needs time to cook and it has a lot of problems, not the worst I have seen, got potential but this 1 is truly Early Access, not on par with Palworld or Enshrouded.
It was painful to watch. I bet Eleon probably really needed the cash so they pushed this out. It is worse then some of the worst games on steam videos I've watch.
The level of quality ????? Their first ever DLC is a piece of sh*t....... why should we expect anything different in the future...... Quality I have come to accept from Eleon being their achilles heel.
This is broken! So glad I didn't buy it, so glad you did it for us. This is unbalanced, lots of epic weapons and nothing to use them on, so lame. It feels terribly unfinished.
Thank you Spanj for suffering through this DLC so that we don’t have to.

Can't upload any more blueprints sadly , been perma banned for valid criticism
Wow really ? What did you say ?
I really wish i hadnt bought this
True this DLC is not worth a penny but the game itself has given me thousands of hours of enjoyment.. I don't mind giving them a few dollars for that entertainment value and to support future upgrade/fixes.
Great loot, but for what? The DLC is a dead end...
Then buy them and focus on making your wonderful ideas real.
what an absolute sham of a DLC.
I love Empyrion, but hate this version. They need to scrap it.
i belive elion worked with devs who made conan exiles? if so conan exiles were and still are coplete garbage. so no wonders why they released this
Wish there was a way to get my money back for this garbage DLC. It should definitely should not have been behind a pay wall.
Pls finish this series
I just did :P
Eleon please fix, seems to be the recurring line in almost every Empyrion video. Such a shame, so much wasted potential.
BRAINSSSS
Get out Spanj!!!!
I'm sorry but all I can say is, embarrassing.. it's 2024 ffs this is a joke imo
Melee combat is very meh.
Takes 10 working days for the next atk.
I get the feeling Spanj is not impressed with this DLC. Eleon is stubborn and it feels lazy. The dev could hardly speak English! WTF
Rubbish! (The DLC I mean and not your video Mr. Spanj)
Given the mechanics of the game this was a good dlc in concept but was poorly executed
so fundamentally flawed with bad tech, lack of base variety, insane spread and buggy as hell
Boy, what a crappy no win scenario. Waste of money.
First to like and Comment!
under 1 min congratz
This is broken! So glad I didn't buy it, so glad you did it for us. This is unbalanced, lots of epic weapons and nothing to use them on, so lame. It feels terribly unfinished.
