What I notice is the real polaroid photos look better than the ones you can get today.

That original film was truly perfect, sharp, rich colours, fast development, even with a plastic cheap box camera, it was still brilliant! Nothing works like Polaroid, they can try but they’ll never master that original chemistry! Land was a genius!!
It’s really amazing what they had - it’s taken on a new life now but it’s certainly a different life! Not as easy, but still possible to produce magnificent with this film!

At least I hope Polaroid will soon be able to make their film as well as they did back then, your 90s photos look amazing but when I look at some of my pictures from 4 years ago, they look faded and even blurry...
It is really so wild to see the vibrancy of these old shots. I definitely see that sort of "wow factor" on Instax all the time but even Instax can't touch these things. Hopefully Polaroid continues to see success and eventually their costs can come down! Thank you for peeping the vid!

So true, it's a big barrier to using Polaroid this casually. Polaroid was really always a lot more expensive than 35mm film, but in the world where Instax is so much cheaper, it still makes you yearn to use Polaroids like this!

40+ years of shooting polaroids i miss the old stuff but cannot imagine my life without it now

I have this old Polaroid my cousin took of me first thing in the morning before school. It's like a terrible shot, blown out by the flash, I have absolutely no expression on my face. But it's definitely become special to me. I have a bunch of photos from that time in my life, but none from that before school kind of prep time, where I have a ton of memory, but no one bothered to document it. Instant film creates these wonderful objects with images that truly carry a lot of meaning. Thanks for sharing some of yours.

I have a bunch of Polaroid’s from the 70s and the colours and contrast look miles better compared to a Polaroid that i took yesterday. Technology usually goes forward but it’s odd how in Polaroid’s case they have gone backwards about 60 years.
True! All because Impossible had to completely start over with new chemistry. A damn shame so much of the old process is illegal and lost 😭
@@InAnInstant ... It's "illegal" due to patent infringement? Or due to restrictions on the chemicals that were used? (And if it's the latter, is it because those chemicals no longer exist, or because they're heavily restricted for security or environmental reasons?)

I found a bunch of slides in my parents house when they moved…. That was pretty incredible to see, I also work for a charity shop and we get a lot of family albums or boxes of cameras with old photos in them, they are pretty dam incredible to look through. It’s also kinda sad that they have been given away and forgotten about.
Yeah, that’s always super incredible (and bittersweet). Those photos which have drifted beyond the grasp of the families and will probably never be seen by them again. I know there are some online projects which attempt to reconnect people to their photos but that’s gotta be a shot in the dark lol
great video! i actually was already working on my own photos from the past and then seen this. i love pics like you said that werent taken on a holiday or birthday, but just an ordinary day. those are actually my favorites. i am currently awaiting shipment on film so i can enjoy the rest of my christmas break (4 more days off) to go shoot some polaroids!!! to heck with the high cost, im shooting multiple packs and variety of 600 and sx70 film!
Totally, it's those ordinary moments that are the most extraordinary on this format when you're looking back at them. So lucky to have these! And that's so sick that you've got some film coming, it's time to pop!
I recently looked through some old Polaroids of mine, and decided to stock up on six packs of film for my week away with my best friends. It is expensive but during two days I have yet to take a picture has not brought us all joy and laughter.

This is awesome! The old Polaroid film is magical 🤩 the colors, the depths, the dynamic range... Hope the new Polaroid will be what it was before. I recently got a box of the old film that stills works. And seeing them side by side with the new film, it’s shocking how different they are! Actually shot a short video of the comparison on the channel, feel free to check it out! 😊
The newest film is getting pretty damn good! It helps to shoot on a glass lens camera (SX-70 or SLR 680) but it’s definitely getting there. Agreed that original film can never be topped though!!

The cameras are really similar (in terms of results) but I'd go with the Impulse just for its viewfinder and 10 second timer!

Dear Lord! The quality and richness of color in those old polaroids, make us all feel nostalgic. You are are absolutely right on the money with your comment on how you don't need a fancy camera with a glass lens when the film is that good. The Spectra pics looks fantastic as always (I got good shots and colors consistently even with the crappy impossible films) Ah well, we're getting there slowly, but surely.
Any plans on making a video specifically on the 600 conversion or the weird external battery for i-type film contraption you mentioned in another video?

It really does hit so much different seeing these old roids. So incredible having these mems. Hopefully we do get somewhere close to this, we’re certainly as near as we’ve ever been! And no not planning a dedicated Rezivot video just because there’s not much to say about it, it’s great though!

I have so many old Polaroids..... and even a few stacks of Kodak instant pictures..... such amazing memories...I for one can’t wait for the new Polaroid,,, to master the perfection Polaroid proper did....and when they do.... I want ten dam shots a pack.... just saying... and Ben,, that mask costume..... f ing awesome man
I hope they can, not holding my breath necessarily. I think there are finite limitations to what they can accomplish with the new chemistry and we’re perhaps already at the upper limit, but I’d love to be proven wrong on that!
In An Instant I think if Fuji can crack the code ,, surely they would have to eventually....
Ralph Hoskins you’d think, but Fuji cracked the code over 30 years ago and are still using chemicals that the current iteration of Polaroid is banned from using. The original Polaroid company was grandfathered in, as is Fuji currently, but the upstart Impossible project has no such advantage.
In An Instant oh so that’s the deal.... didn’t know what the real story was behind the music....lol... but Fuji is basically just using a amped up version of Kodak’s instant film... and if Polaroid is indeed the real no holds bared Polaroid now,,,, why can’t they use the same grandfathering... I guess maybe they just want to be more environmentally friendly..? Hell I don’t know,, but I like this topic.. very interesting stuff.. also since the original Polaroid is gone,, on paper anyway.... what if Kodak starting making there instant film and cameras again?? That would be sick... stock up on flip flashes for the old handle folks..lol... I would love to see brand new trim print kodamatic film...
1. The only 600 photo I found in my house from "ye olden dayes" was a photo from my 10th birthday in 2005 with me and all my friends at Build-A-Bear at the local mall
2. The OTHER Polaroids I've found around the house are photos of my mom from when she was a child in the Early to Mid 60's taken on some form of Land Camera ("Those cameras never took good photos!" she claims)
3. I've started treating my Instax Square as my "Go to" or "Carry everywhere" camera. Yeah film is a _little_ pricey but its just nice to take it with you and get a spur of the moment shot or to family gatherings and give pictures to my cousins of their kids for the future!
Yo you got that Build-A-Bear Polaroid pic?? GUARD IT WITH YOUR LIFE. Awesome that you found some super old pack film Polaroids too! Those Land cameras were exceptional. The Instax square is a great carry-everyone camera! Certainly more affordable than Polaroid.
The modern Polaroid film sucks badly. The fact that 30 year old Polaroids look better than the ones taken today speaks volumes.
I mean, I completely disagree about the current state of Polaroid film - stuff looks incredible these days. Just have to shoot it right. And, naturally, the film would look better today had Polaroid suppliers not gone out of business + chemicals made illegal after the initial Polaroid company discontinued their formula & film.

Based on my experiences with Polaroids, and I've been using Polaroid cameras for 26 years, the best way to preserve your Polaroids is to preserve them digitally. Whether it's your cell phone, your computer, making digital copies at any store that has digital photo processing, or your social media, I encourage everyone to digitally preserve their Polaroids. Take it from me, Polaroids don't last very long. The color pictures will eventually discolor and fade away, the black/white pictures will eventually turn brown and/or yellow, and the paper frames will eventually crack and fray as they get older. I have Polaroids of me growing up in the 1980s, and though the pictures are still in very good shape, the paper frames are cracked and frayed from almost four decades of aging.
I agree, see my other video on scanning, I'm very judicious about that. I will say though, some of these Polaroids are 30 years old and look spectacular, absolutely zero fading. They were properly stored which makes all the difference.
Wish new Polaroids were even 1/8 as good as this stuff

I just took a polaroid of my shark eating lunch infront of this video on the laptop on the table. Sorta just to watch it fade into colour during my remaining lunch break.

Hi Humayra! If you want the bluetooth features of the OneStep+ which include manual exposure, light painting, noise trigger, etc, then go with that camera. If you really just want to point and shoot, go with the Polaroid Now!

Hey Chen! I posted this in the community section, but it's not super clear how to best disseminate information on RUclips 😂 - the channel is switching over to bi-weekly for the long run. For a subject matter like instant film, which has an inherently narrower scope, it doesn't make sense to completely burn through every topic and review in the first year by doing this weekly. Trying to best situate the channel for long term success, and this is the only way.
What camera did your Mum use?
We can’t be 100% certain, but pretty sure it was a OneStep 600 flash model, something like the Spirit 600 or Supercolor cams! Amazing the results that came out of those lower end cameras.
