I'm sorry to hear that you had to leave teaching due to safety concerns. It must have been a difficult decision to make, but your safety should always be a priority. It's a shame that such incidents have become increasingly common and it's a loss for the students and the community when experienced teachers like yourself are no longer able to do the job they love. Hopefully, steps can be taken to address the root causes of these incidents and create a safer working environment for teachers in the future.

When you do not have the help of the Profession the schools, the staffing, the boards any more an know help from the parents any more it is becoming harder to teach, you cannot teach un discipline children, that doesn't always mean corporal punishment, it means just listening and who do they listen to now a days? 😒

There is a reason why Nord countries are the happiest nations on Earth. They have a sense of community and collaboration that members of other nations can only dream of. There’s no teacher shortage. There’s plenty of them out there who WANT to make a difference in students life. They’re just leaving settings to escape toxicity.
There is a shortage in student accountability. Back in the day, you had to put in the work to earn a passing grade to graduate on time. Nobody just handed out grades. Now kids get passed along for showing up and turning incomplete work.
There is also a shortage in parents being parents. If your child isn’t worried when a teacher threatens to call home, you’re not doing your jobs as parents.
Also a shortage in time for actual teaching. The school board is obsessed with testing and screening to the point where it’s too much and kids are just zombies. They’re also too tricky and hard.

And renewing the certs and everything cost money, ($150 to renew three carts and then another $75 to transfer credits into the portal system, as well as another $45 yo finalize the transfer fees and the $20 for transcripts) and it is the same dance done every five years.
Meanwhile, in Funeral Services here in South Florida, the board directors are working on minimizing the number of certs and exams needed to own and run a Funeral Home. They want to do a three in one cert exam so that it minimizes the clutter mess they have right now and increases available directors for any area that is needed, maximizing the use of the directors they have currently, while encouraging future directors to enter. They will even contact you once you have a cert and in the graduates program automatically... it is as if the Funeral department and the college programs are working as a single unit, I love it!!!
Seeing how Funeral Services are managed and run has convinced me that the Education system is one of those professions not worth the time, effort and money to deal with. I had the taste of what competency and people who care about their profession feels like. This includes observing how senior directors are so supportive and helpful to novice individuals of this profession. The top professors in the Funeral Service department works closely with the Funeral Director agencies and associations to create grant programs and scholar ships programs to support low income students, etc. I'm upset that I went with family tradition (being a teacher like most people in my family) rather than choosing wealth and peace of mind (being a Funeral Director and having my own business of operations). Fortunately, I am patience person and very studious, so going back has always been an open option.

I was burnt out from the mental & demanding abuse by then…. You all fix your own problems! I tried! We have to think proactively when it comes to our children!
If I didn’t feel safe teaching them… come on now, I had videos, pictures etc of grown men not fathers but grown men dropping off teenage girls in the back of the school. The fathers would have dropped them off in the front where they were supposed to. I tried so hard to turn them in but no one would listen. Tons would sneak away. Skip school and anything could happen…. Our schools would be responsible for them! I would take pictures and call for help but no one listens. I couldn’t do it all!

I use to spend about $160+ per month in classroom supplies. Things that any classroom should have like paper, craft projects, scissors, kleenex, glue, etc. I, nor any teacher, receives reimbursement for these supplies. On top of working this full time job, I had to work on weekends to clean homes, just to try to make ends meet. I had to ask parents to bring in items from home they normally just toss in recycle bin (like the cardboard roll from toilet paper), and most times I got very little.
Republicans continually refuse to raise the minimum wage past 10/hr. Last time it was raised was 2009. And they are perfectly fine with that. Teacher's aids earn minimum wage.
But teachers, especially preschool teachers (like I was), even with a degree do not earn more than 32-33K per year. When you subtract the 2K plus you spend out of your own pocket for supplies, and the added 3-4 hours per day you have to work (unpaid) to write daily reports, put together weekly classroom activities, clean your classroom, shop for supplies etc., it averages to about $12/hr each teacher is earning. Of course they are leaving. Especially in Texas where Abbott isn't doing anything about making sure classrooms are safe.

A region not having enough teachers can lead to several problems, including:
Overcrowded classrooms: Large class sizes can lead to less individualized attention for students, which can hinder their learning and development.
    1. Inadequate support: Teachers play a crucial role in providing support for students, both academically and emotionally. With a shortage of teachers, students may not receive the help they need to succeed.
    2. Teacher burnout: Teachers who are stretched too thin due to high student-to-teacher ratios may experience burnout, leading to decreased job satisfaction and potentially even leaving the profession.
    3. Reduced access to quality education: A shortage of teachers can lead to schools being unable to provide students with a quality education. This can negatively impact students' futures and limit their opportunities.
    4. Inequity: Regions that are already struggling with socio-economic challenges may be disproportionately affected by a shortage of teachers, exacerbating existing inequities in access to education.
