    She has been called the "Godmother of Vegan Dietitians" and the "High Priestess of Vegan Nutrition" and today, we're proud to welcome friend, author, and PLANTSTRONG pioneer, Brenda Davis, to the podcast.
    Brenda is the author of 12 books and she’s been a speaker at our Plant-Stock events for years. Not only does she captivate with the energy of a teenager, but her evidence-based research leaves folks inspired regardless of where they are on their own journey to health.
    That’s why we're excited to discuss topics in her latest book, “Nourish: The Definitive Plant-Based Nutrition Guide for Families” that she co-wrote with Pediatrician, Dr. Reshma Shah.
    We're often asked about how we do it in the Esselstyn house. People want to know how to feed their children healthy foods in a fast-paced, junk food society without sacrificing the nutrients needed in order to grow and thrive.
    Today, Brenda addresses some of these common concerns that parents may have...Things like - of course- protein...iodine, calcium, iron, zinc, B-12...you know...all the same things we worry about as adults!
    The goal of this book is not to just provide confidence in plant-based nutrition for health at any age, but also build a life-affirming connection within your family. “Nourish” offers the solution parents have been waiting for when it comes to deciding what and how to feed their families.

    I love HER!! Such an inspirational woman! Have her Becoming Vegan book. I became a Whole Foods Plant Based Vegan because I just couldn't justify the suffering and killing of all these poor animals. I also watched Forks Over Knives and I was amazing about all the health benefits of a Plamt Based Diet! I am so inspired to become a Vegan dietiion !

    It would be so helpful to have a WFPB cookbook written with recipes for one person only. All of the recipes are for 4-8 people. Not all of us “only’s” or seniors want to eat the same meal day after day. Freezer space isn’t always an option. Please, Brenda, put this on your list!

    As the father of a consistently underweight 4 year old vegan boy, I think I'm going to have to pick up "Nourish". Awesome intel here!
    At a recent visit to our local nutritionist, they said "well, maybe you should consider abandoning the vegan diet".

    • @j-sm4554

      This comment is a year old. So, I'm posting for others who may experience the same thing. I heard that vegan children are more often below the average in growth but join the rest or surpass them when in teens years. It may be actually a good thing that growth is slower, especially in girls (to avoid too early pubescence). As long as kids eat nutritious plant foods, there seems to be nothing to worry about.

    Great interview! She mentioned that only 1% of children get a recommended amount of fiber, does anyone have a link to the research on this?

    • @Frenchblue8
      @Frenchblue8 3 года назад +3

      Just Google it. That's what I just did there's tons of info about it from reliable sources it appears, older kids and adults should be getting at least 25 grams a day according to the RDA but we clearly should be getting far more than that. And apparently children do worse than adults. I only scanned the first four or five that popped up and they all pretty much say the same depressing thing. my kids are vegan, and they eat plenty of whole foods, they all eat really well compared to other kids especially but I think I'm going to sit down on the chronometer app today and stick in one of our typical days eating and see how it actually comes out. My kids are 7, 11, 15&18

    I see one person voted this down at this point. I'd be interested in why they would have ever done such an inexplicable thing. But I'm guessing it's someone desperately clinging to the consumption of dead flesh, who believes he or she is a baby cow, and doesn't know what an egg actually is...... But even worse than that, clearly believes that children should be fed all of the above, AND a fast food diet.
    Because that's the opposite of what Rip and Brenda feed their families and have eaten for many decades, themselves because it's the absolutely healthiest way to eat, the healthiest diet on the planet. Just get your B12 supplement and everything else is a party of beautiful colors, textures and wonderfully abundant goodness!

    I became vegetarian around 1996 and shortly after that, a vegan (25 yrs). Over the years though I have fell off the wagon and ate unhealthy processed foods. My problem is I want to be able to prepare delicious healthy meals for me and my carnivore, hunting, fishing husband. He loves vegetables and healthy dishes, but I do not know how to actually make tasty dishes every day to entice my husband to give up his meats. I fall off the wagon because he loves to indulge in the "american fast food" diet and in our area, you will never find a restaurant that cooks healthy meals from scratch. I know HOW to eat for health but finding delicious recipes that both of us will eat is hard. Can you offer suggestions? I want easy, quick delicious meals. Thanks

      Kathy, If you don’t want to become deficient in all those nutrients which Brenda said Vegans are deficient in, Omega 3’s, EPA, DHA, Iodine, B12 and Iron, you may want to eat some of your hunting and fishing husbands Meat. Meat has all of these nutrients in abundance and none of the anti-nutrients like Phytates, Oxalates and Lectins which Brenda said will leach most of the nutrients from your food. What is more natural synthetic Vitamins or Fish?
