ABOUT CIVILIZATION VI: GATHERING STORM
The second expansion to Civilization VI introduces an active planet where geology and climatology present unique new challenges. Chart a path to victory by developing new advanced technologies and engineering projects and negotiating with the global community in the World Congress on critical issues. The choices you make in the game will influence the world ecosystem and could impact the future of the entire planet. Natural disasters like floods, storms, and volcanoes can pillage or destroy your Improvements and Districts - but they may also refresh and enrich the lands after they pass.

ABOUT CIVILIZATION
Originally created by legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization is a turn-based strategy game in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time. What do you think of Phoenicia? Will this be a go-to civ for you when Civilization VI: Gathering Storm launches on February 14?
Sid Meier's Civilization
I would like it if you added a slider in advanced map set up that controls how many natural wonders appear in the map. One of my favorite parts of playing civ is settling and getting maximum usage of natural wonders. They add such life and excitement to the map, I would love the option to have more per map.
Perfect for me, seems appealing like many other of the new civs but I loved Dido in her previous game apparition and thoses Ships, Cothons... That gameplay please me. So much. :)
@Rico T Would love to see a map replay again :)
Please bring back the replay option. Its adds so much value beeing able to see the whole game play out itself and it makes compleeting a game so much more fun
Is there any chance you could get the voice actress to write down what she says in the original alphabet with a transcription and a translation? And could you do that for all the languages? Thanks for the great game, devs!
Can we please get Huge Earth map from devs!!!!!!!!!!!!! so all the civs can be placed.
Just get one of the many mod maps. It ain't hard.
@@MrStealYourDonuts yeah but with rise and fall they dont work anymore
@@shachaaigars3358 YNAMP probs will update in within a day like they did during r&f
but they'll have to add vulcanos and other stuff, might take way longer
The real question is can Civ 6 please be stable with a map this big and this many civs? If they just did that, I'd be fine with the mods taking care of the actual map making.
I loved the story about how you recreated the Phoenician song.
Because every time that song is played a civilization long gone, however briefly, is alive again.
Just an idea. It might be nice to also add earthquakes as a natural disaster. Then down in the tech tree, once you researched something like Geology or it can be added to other techs, you would be able to view the tectonic plates or faults on the map via the lens. Thus you would be able to predict where the earthquakes may frequently happen. And as you view it from the settler lens, you would then be also see the icon indicating the danger of frequent earthquakes, same as the indication showing possible flooding. And if an earthquake happened like on an active fault under the ocean, nearby land tiles may experience a tsunami that pillages them and reduces their fertility. The flood barriers may also serve as something like a blockade for minor tsunamis.
I just wanted to leave this train of thought of mine here. It's just something that came up for being really excited to the upcoming expansion. I hope this would be seen also by others to give some opinions. Thank you :)
Sounds stupid
I'm so excited for the new expansion! However, watching today's stream I'm reminded of a great design flaw in Civ6: The game rewards you too much for going wide and there's no incentive whatsoever for going tall.
Because of Carl's great sprawling empire he's greatly ahead of everyone in science, culture, gold and great people points. He's become a Synthetic Technocracy while the Ottomans' are still using Renaissance era Bombards for god's sake. The World Congress and Future Tech are great additions to the game but will they be fun if by that point in the game it's pretty much "won"? In The World's Fair Carl is 5 times ahead in points than the 2nd contender.
As an example, EU4 goes around this by making techs more expensive to research until a certain date, and neighbouring countries who are behind get a tech discount. I think that's exactly what the game needs: more catch up mechanics and some anti-snowball measures to make the game more lively in the mid and late game.
Perhaps Peter the Great's ability needs to be a baseline ability for everybody in the game?
I only write this lengthy post because I love the civ series and hope the devs - who I'm sure has worked really hard on this amazing expansion - notices this problem and will address it in the future and improve the game even more so.
EU4 is a very different game.
Jacob Loyd Yeah I agree with you, going wide in EU4 is also better, but not the same degree.
There are more punishing mechanics that prevent you from going too wide too quickly in EU4: AE, coalitions, rebellions, WE, etc.
Civ6 does have some mechanics but they aren’t punishing at all: loyalty is too binary and too easy to manage thanks to governors, amenities might as well not exist because they get more prevalent each expansion, and Emergencies never seem to get used by the AI for some reason.
But most importantly, going wide in EU4 does not give you a tech advantage. Institution spread, coring costs and innovativeness prevent wide countries from getting too much of an advantage in exchange for better advisors. That and the soft cap on tech costs prevent any country of being 50 years ahead of their neighbours in tech; much less settling up space colonies while your neighbours just invented cannons.
I feel in Civ6 there needs to be some diminishing returns on your 3rd campus onwards, or higher tech costs while your neighbours are whole eras behind you...
Great comment
!!!
I would like to suggest a mode where you can build your own civ. What I mean by that is every civ and their rulers have their unique abilities units buildings etc. This mode enables you to cherry pick those and have completly new civ.For example having ''all roads lead to Rome'' as the civ ability but as the unit I pick mamluks and the building I pick Royal docks and so on.This mode should enable infinite amounts of unique gameplay(Which should be most fun in the multiplayer side of the game). Thought this would be a cool idea..
That would make certain “builds” ridiculously op. I can’t see that being balanced in any way whatsoever. This isn’t a game like stellaris where the game is balanced from the ground up for custom empires to be built. This idea is more suited to modding, it’s really more of a gag feature than anything.
@@Dadpai Just make a maximum number of points that your custom civ can have and give each UA, UU, UB, etc. a certain point value.
@@brianhum8765 imagine mamluks with scythias ability and genghis ability
@@toppenmlg8243 Yep and you could separate all the leader abilities in the game into lists and certain lists are really expensive and/or modify the cost of things on other lists. So, for example, People of the Steppe could double the cost of picking any of the good unique cavalry units in the game.
Other weaker choices (if you set it up to where you had to pick one UA, UU, UB, etc) could halve the cost of other choices allowing you to pick like a crappy UB and then the best UU and/or UA in the game. There's an infinite number of ways they could set it up to keep it balanced.
Brian Hum Sounds like an exceptionally tedious, time consuming feature to implement that would still be difficult to balance correctly, especially when they could be using that time to actually balance the civs as they currently are and make them all strong in their own ways, or work on more m interesting dlc. This just doesn’t sound like something logistical to do, it’s too niche for a game based on playing actual empires from history.

REPRESENTATION IN VIDEO GAMES
30:00 i love that the resource icons are MUCH SMALLER, looks much nicer to keep em permanently on.
PLEASE add an option to make the UNIT and CITY banner icons smaller too, without scaling the rest of the UI down.
There is so much Icon and City Banner clutter on this screen, please let us scale them down independently!
I'm really loving this series of videos. Civ VI is an awesome game! Congrats for all the good work, it has given us many hours of real pleasure!
Are there any plans on improving AI compared to the ongoing build? AI in CIV6 was always a problem - CIV5 is way more challenging when it comes to AI intellect and plays
They said they will do something but I guess it won't be a radical improvement. It's shiny features that sell the DLC, not an AI.
No better AI = Im not buying! I will be looking at the steam reviews. I just installed Civ5 again.
So glad they made the minimap follow land borders when painting civ colours. A small thing but it makes it way easier to read and a lot more eye-pleasing
I'm impressed that you made it so research labs use a lot of energy. You just made one fan very happy!
This is truly the Beyond The Sword of the Civ6 saga. Thank you so much, for continuing to improve upon your games until they are legendary. Any other dev would have given up after the first expansion and said "fuckit good enough".
Finally, I thought someone slipped with Dido's name and called her...something else.
Dido, you are missing an "L"
Die doe
"Phoenicia has ships, if you have coin."
i love civilization !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I see it, any attempt to take Phoenician costal cities using a navy would be near, if not, impossible. All she needs is to have a few fortified ships in her city and she is the epitome of an immovable object.
combine that with them being able to move their capital for a really hard to conquer civ. I think it's good though, as, at least in multiplayer, domination is way too strong
Dido has boats, if you have coin.
I always wonder where's the drug reference in civ VI
Probably the tobacco luxury resource.
There is also the wine resource
Coffee is a drug too xd
would be cool though if you had drugs, like luxury resources but that would punish if you ever stopped having them, e.g. you offer early on some opium to another civ that doesn't naturally have any, brings good amenity initially but if you refuse to renew the trade agreement they get withdrawal and negative amenity, would be an interesting mechanic.
@@ourorboros2 countries did peddle drugs to other countries opium should at least be a resource
Is it just me or does the colour scheme used by the developers match those of Asterix comics
If the base speed for the exoplanet expedition is the speed of light, then there would be no way to speed it up unless you used some sort of warp drive/sub space technology. You can't go faster than the speed of light with a solar sail lol.
Great changes and improvements! Will the Ai become better though?
No major AI improvement = Im not buying
Honestly tho make them smarter dont just give them crazy bonuses
Skeptic me says they had Carl play on King so they people could say "Yeah, Carl was crushing the AI, but that was on King" only to hide the fact that he'd crush the AI on Deity, too. Hopefully that could be a temporary situation between now and the release, but I'm not holding my breath.
Just play on a higher difficulty, they're way smarter.
Valamas They have said they made AI improvements.
do civs have have a different theme for the future era?
Yes
@@CoffeeSuccubus thats cool can't wait to hear them
I like how they play on king difficulty..really shows you why the AI is so easy to beat in this game.
Finally a multiplayer mode to replace PlayYourDamnTurn! I love playing with friends over the course of a month so this is most welcome!
I don't think it makes a lot of sense that you can build solar panels on tundra tiles. I think it would be much more sensible to allow windfarms to be built there. I also don't think unlocking offshore windfarms in the future era makes sense, as they already exist today. Maybe reserve the future era for a fusion reactor or something like that.
Mute windows notification sounds when streaming please. Most broadcast software does this automatically, or [Focus assist] is one button click away.
In regards what was said at 4:04, what about give her the unique ability to negotiate boats?
boats = naval units
around 14:50 The end of the classical era and I hear clearly a full orchestra what is more likely to be played from the industrial era...
Late game looks amazing, but it seems like the railroads need some more work graphically. They seem to be very fractal at the moment.
Hey I’m currently playing as Dido in my game and I was wondering about the advantage where all coastal cities on the capital’s continent get full loyalty. Does this Apply to cities that are conquered?
The turn times look very slow. Have they enabled debug logs or something to slow it down? I mean in the first 100 turns, on a small map, it was taking more than 10 seconds.
If you move your capital how does that affect colonial taxes and colonial offices policies?
yes. they explained that as one of the things you can exploit as phoenicia
Is that a ski resort at the roman town at Karl's border?
Does cows produce methane in civ?
I would find it it funny if global warming was at its final stage in the renaissance because there happened to be alot of cattle
Well everything came problematic with CAFO system and massive production in recent century.
Hi guys. I'm extremely excited about all the changes that are coming up in gathering storm. However there's one thing that really needs some very clever guys like You tinkering....AI units upgrading! Carl is using planes and you can see Rome still using legions. Please, Please, Please, Please do something about it. Kindest regards
Firstly; what's the issue? We have tanks in most first world nations but there are still tribes in jungles using bows and arrows and spears, just because one nation has advanced weaponry doesn't mean others did, think about the Zulu fighting the British or pretty much any other colonial engagement.
Secondly, were this a problem how would you fix? Just have all units upgrade automatically? It would cause massive balancing head aches, imagine purposefully holding back on a tech, building a massive army at cheaper production and then learn the tech and boom, ultra army.
@@ourorboros2 it would not be a problem if that was single civ that falls behind but here we have got more than that - pretty much everyone else Canada, Mali, Ottomans etc. I do agree with you that some civs fall behind others but not all of them at same time and additionally to that if you play against AI not only you fight against dated units but the decision making is also questionable
@@PinkCamoPanthers ah, I think I somewhat misunderstood your first comment, thought you had just ment that you didn't like that different civs could have different levels of tech, I agree wholeheartedly that the ai is so meh and increasing difficulty doesn't make the ai better just gives it bonuses. Yeah, so needs a big improvement...
I was thinking about a suggestion that I had:
Custom Civilizations. For example, I am writing a fantasy story, and I would love to be able to play as or against the kingdom from this story. I know that this kind of thing can be done using modding, but it would be really cool for people who can't code or mod (like me). If anyone from the Civ team sees this, can it be taken into consideration for a DLC (Gathering Storm or a specific one)?
At first I didn't assume it to be doable, but the more I thought, the more it made sense. The name of the Civ and leader could be written in (e.g. England: "England", "English" and "Victoria") and the symbol/colours chosen from a selection (e.g. England: Crown, Dark Red + White). A ruler could be created using a classic video game character creator. This could also include “attitude” for their poses and actions for animations. The perks, abilities and agendas could be chosen similarly to a religion's. An upgraded version of every unit could be given to choose from and name, the same going for districts. (e.g. England: Privateer -> "Sea Dog", Harbour -> "Royal Naval Dockyard") The look of cities and ethnicity of units could be chosen from another Civ, or from a selection. The "True Start Locations" could be chosen or random. Dialog options (delegations, denouncements, etc.) as well as city names and loading screen could be written.
I like how 30% of this video is them saying "uhm". ;-)
Thank god for the resource report
Dear team behind Civilization VI,
In all of your videos and streams are the tile improvements no matter when constructed, for example farms, displayed with ancient era farmhouse? Is this a bug or sadly in the new expansion anyways?
Please answer my question!
PS: I really like that in this axpansion (or maybe as a patch for all versions of Civilization VI) all units get a touch of colour depending on what Civ they are from.
2:50 what do you mean "not viable in multiplayer because the project takes a while"
Most people (sadly) play online games on the "online speed", which almost boils everything down to 1-2 turns (and wrecks the production cost balance of the entire game), heck 90% of youtube lets players play like that too.
If that project would EVER be able to complete fast enough for mid-siege usage, its in multiplayer games!
Please change the main menu screen
Will there be tsunamis?
with the cloud mode could you all be on and do turns normally then go back to cloud when someone has to leave?
Love the resource report
They keep deleting the comments about what happened at the end of the stream. (They cut it) You don't ignore the problem, you solve it, Firaxis.
😂 I remember that
What happened?
@@TheKuldi After a much shorter stream than the other civs, the cameras went out but the microphones didn't. One of them said "That was literally all we could talk about" showing that not much Thought was put into Dido and that they spent the majority of the stream talking about her Historically and little of her (limited and boring) gameplay. Adding to the general dislike of Phoenicia among the youtubers and that they said it was one of the first civs to be made for this expansion, it is disappointing to see our beloved Dido pull the shorter straw. Don't make leaders like Dido and Tamar when you are aware of their shortcoming and that you admit they are boring. We love Cilivization, the fans deserve as much.
@@KheiaMedcherKhaine wow thank you for the reply! Well yeah that was a little disappointing to hear. If they didn't know how to make her exciting they should just wait and make another one now. Ah.... There is no view "Wonder List" in Report... T.T How can I find specific Wonder of the World....? Please make Wonder List like Civ 2, 3, 4, 5.....
Will Egypt have a bonus where their farms don't get pillaged by floods? It would make sense if they did because of how they farmed
I think they gave a bonus to Egypt where floods increase food yields by more

If your space ship is already travelling at the speed of light, how can firing lasers at it speed it up? The light would never catch up!
I feel like the nuclear plant should be recommissioned with gold instead of production. It just doesn't feel right that the reactor provides production to its own recommissioning. I think it would be a nice touch to add a feature to theocracies where they can recommission their reactors with faith. LOL
Yeah i find it weird that a whole cities production goes to just a little maintenance on a power plant
Are there tier 4 government plaza buildings though

This will be my favourite Civ! .... until they hopefully release Austria with the third expansion :-)
It's cool that Carthage finally gets represented as Phoenicia, but when will Rome get treated the same way by being called Italy? Or the Ottomans as just Turkey?
While I agree with the Ottomans, Italy and Rome should be totally different, I don't see how Italy and Rome could be represented as one.
If Rome were to renamed to anything, it'd more likely be called "Latin Civilization"
Most likely neither will, since they were known as the Roman Empire and Ottoman Empire respectively...though you could go with it for the Ottomans as the Ottoman Turks.
@@zaklex3165 The Ottoman state has been called Turkey before, it isn't outlandish to call it the "Turkish" Civilization, which would lump in the modern republic, the Sultanate of Rum, the Beyliks, and perhaps even the Seljuks. However, it probably isn't likely
The first sentence is just 100% wrong except grammar.
Should'nt the alrenate roman colors be based in red given you know they wore it and their banners were red.

what if rome does not want you to see how much iron it has?
the game becoming even more transparent (in addition to the detailed points report) is a huge bummer in my opinion :(
but it is just a quicker way to see what is on their trade menu
So what happens to coastal cities, and especially civs based on coastal expansion, when the sea level rises and just swallows your city?
They will have an incentive to go green ASAP and force everyone else to do the same via UN. It's similar to real-life China whose main cities are located near the shore.
There will also be aquatic colonies (not sure how they will function though).
they are researching nanotechnology and there are swordsmen and archers running around on the map.....that can't be right

I’m gonna sound really lame but I kind like each Civ having unique, never-changing colors. It gives them personality and everything. Having Civ colors change based on who’s on the game just isn’t as fun :/
The other leader is usually just a reverse of the same colours
Yeah. But. Would you rather not be able to read the map?
Yeah, being able to see my borders trumps anything aesthetic.
how do you even know if it's more fun if you haven't personally experienced it yet?
I build my empire purely out of aesthetics. Ugly borders? Conquest until it looks better. Civ with similar colours? Conquest. Everything looks better with conquest
Imagine taking her cap and she's like haha and u have to take it again
For Domination victories, assuming that's what you're referring to, it counts original capitals; not current ones. Whichever is the first city she founds, that'l be the one you need.
