I was born and raised in Los Angeles and my mother has worked for JAL for nearly 30 years, so I grew up flying the LAX-NRT route on the 777-300ER every year in the summer to see family. Even though I've only ever flown economy, some of my happiest childhood memories are aboard this flight and it fostered the love of flying I have now as an adult. I'm a big buy (6'3" 250lbs), but I still get so excited whenever I fly long haul because it reminds me of the wonder I had as a kid. Despite the cramped fit, I love every second of it. One day I will save enough to be able to fly on JAL's first class on the NRT-LAX route! It will definitely be the happiest 10 hours of my life. But for now, I'll have to settle with these great videos. On a side note, my next flight is LAX-BKK via TPE on EVA Air later this month and I cannot wait!
Awe it sounds like a very meaningful and significant route for you. Luckily I can't imagine the route ever getting chopped so hope it remains for the rest of the time 🙌🏼
I just flew back to Japan from Chicago on First Class JAL. I love the bucket seats, very comfortable to sit and sleep in. The service was amazing with the three flight attendants. Nice Video
This is an outstanding review. No need to apologize for not having a window seat. It is both refreshing and informative to see a first class flight review that is not filmed from seat 1A. Also great to see the Japanese meal service instead of steak. Nice job.
I enjoyed your review once again. I saw the Oman 787 review last night, and although Oman First is now on my list of "have-to' do", I do have a JAL first class experience coming up at the end of this month, July, SFO to NAR. I wanted to revisit your trip to get my juices flowing. I can't wait to eat...I totally enjoy the mukbang.
Hope you enjoy your time on JAL F! I think they updated their amenity kit for a better hard case, so thats a plus! Try to see if they have any more unopened bottles of the Salon Champagne which are usually only available for Tokyo departures 😉
The JL first class lounge is also used by economy passengers. All one needs to get access is OneWorld Emerald status from any OneWorld airline and a valid ticket for same-day travel on any OneWorld airline. You can be traveling in economy on American Airlines and as long as you are Emerald, you can use the JL first class lounge.
You must give them a second try! Can't speak for the difference in the level of service compared to 20years ago, but service wise this one is on my top 3 amongst all my first class experiences till date 😉
@@TraverseFlightReview I no longer travel like I used to 20 years ago - Y2K project. But I enjoyed the fights & services. JAL were very accommodating our flights as well as our staff.
I must comment about my recent flight, a few weeks ago, JAL First SFO-NAR and NAR-SFO was wonderful. Highlight was the food and service onboard. Superlative. Low points are both lounges, although NAR not too bad really. Also, as you pointed out, the IFE was lacking and I found it awkward. The IFE didn't matter anyway as I was way too busy eating. I managed both the Japanese menu and the Western going both directions, plus a couple of stabs at the a la cart menu. yummy to the max. ☺
Nice video reli a full review of jal F but with critics too! But the first class will be better if they have screen door lol anyway JAL f and j food are the best!!!
Hi @traverse, just watching your trip vlog and i subscribed u directly after i watched it. So good to see air travel vlogger to seat on highest class 😋 hopefully i can sit on that seat someday in the future and maybe we could travel together and make some collab videos (?) hahaha ✌️
Very nice video indeed. My only complaint is the complaint about the business class passengers having to use the first class lounge. Why????? It looked almost empty! Be grateful that you can afford first class and don't be so snobby. I will still subscribe to your channel because you are good.
Oh no I didnt mean to sound snobbish at all 🙁 i just wanted to review and experience JAL's most premium services and products as they were designed to be. In hindsight it would be hard to expect them to offer that during such times as covid 😔.
@@TraverseFlightReview you weren't snobbish at all! I appreciate all the content u make and I'm sure alot of other people do aswell, keep up the great work!

@@TraverseFlightReview Hello to everyone, I really do appreciate your videos. I have actually subscribed as they are one of my favourite air travel videos. I particularly like the fact that there is only very quiet background music and I can hear all the airport/airplane sounds. Please carry on making more videos. I am probably just jealous. Have just travelled with Lufthansa and Swiss in Economy and queuing for everything was horrendous. So, sorry if I have upset you. ❤❤❤
I wish all flag carriers would make more effort to show to the passengers a taste of their culture and cuisine. It makes taking these flights that much more memorable 😉 thanks for your comment!
Would love if you add in more audio conversation with the cabin crew. Your ability to converse in Japanese which makes the interaction with the crew more happening as opposed to more robotic when converse in English (to be fair some of the crew English is damn good too)
My Japanese isn't that good but I tried with my limited skill to communicate with the fantastic crew 😛 I find speaking with the crew in their native language helps to be more friendly and comfortable for everyone 😁 i will try to learn more so I can have more dialogue in my future Japan flights! 👍
Excellent video as if I am also in your place during thr flight time . What do you mean that first class to Bangkok is sold as business class. All first class ammenities, seats, and food are given for a business class ticket? How about PJ for a 5 footer passenger?
They operate the same 777's to Bangkok. If you book business class, theres a chance you can snag one of these First Class seats, but of course you will be serviced in business class menus, amenities, etc. I think small should be fine for the pj's :) its a nice cotton fabric so it'll fit right in.
I tried asking but it was all no bueno :( the two sitting in row 2 were travelling together too! Im sure they would have enjoyed the middle seat more than me 🥺
Just saw this video as RUclips failed to notify me of this new upload for several days. A nice comprehensive review, as usual for your channel 👍. I thoroughly enjoy your videos as they are well thought out, interesting, informative and presented in such a calm and relaxing way. JAL First Class is to me, the epitome of what international First Class service should be. (Tied with SQ First Class). The unobtrusive yet caring and polite way the flight attendants provide their service is what makes this airline such a pleasure to fly on. Generally speaking, I tend to order the traditional meals of the country that the airline is from. It gives me a "taste" of their culture and is just fun to try something other than the regular Western fare that every airline offers. Having flown worldwide for many years I have become quite enamored with most Asian airlines as their on board service is so much superior to non Asian airlines. I believe it is because of their culture, work ethic and "politeness". I could tell you horror stories about the rude service that I have received from US flagged carriers over the years. I often tell friends that sometimes I think that a prerequisite for being a flight attendant on an "American" carrier is that they must have previously been employed as a "correctional officer" in a jail or prison 😱🤣. Thanks again for your review. I will be looking forward to your upcoming vlogs. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week. 👍💯❤️✈️🙏🌎
Thank you for your kind words John! And i LOL'd at your correctional officer joke 😂 my next review will be a transcontinental flight on Air Canada in their signature class, and boy you can notice the difference in the level of service compared to this review... stay tuned!
@@TraverseFlightReview I can just imagine receiving service from a "burned out FA" who obviously is "not amused or happy" being required to deal with any passengers on your flight. I do understand that the lack of manners, basic civilized behavior and a sense of entitlement of many of today's passengers has had a negative effect on flight attendants desire to do their jobs. There is a highly noticeable difference between "Western" cabin crews and "Asian" cabin crews in their willingness to be polite, personable and who seem to actually enjoy their jobs. Note to haters: this has nothing to do with "race" but with cultural behavior and education. I can't wait to see your review. 😊

In my experience, there is no business class by any airline that has the amount of room this cabin has. The seats are similar to Air France first class, although there are 8 rather than 4.
