This Bentley R-Type was supplied new in May 1954 to the Charles Attwood & Sons Ltd dealer organisation. In May 2003 the car landed up with the last owner. A month later the engine was completely overhauled. From late 2003 to mid 2005 a substantial restoration was undertaken. Cost nor effort was spared during this restoration, that took place in Germany. Documentation from the previous owner dating back to 1988 is also present. This Bentley has been restored using the same production process followed in 1954. It has the original Two-Tone ’Tudor Grey over Shell Grey’ finish. The car has a matching numbers engine.

It's great to see the engine bay nicely detailed as well, most cars are only restored on the outside, and the engine bay is a greasy mess with pealing paint. I noticed the orange "dot" sticker at 80mph, and the number 712 was on it, I know that's not rpm, what does the number stand for ?

Just a Mk.6 with minor improvements. Don't be tempted into paying over inflated prices. If all else is equal it's worth the same as a Mk.6.
The R type has a nicer boot than the Mk6, moving towards the S1 shape bit by bit.
The 4.5 litre engine in the R-Type was not just a minor improvement over the 4.25 litre engine in the MK VI. There were a few Mk VI's that had the 4.5 litre engine known as the big bore small boot cars.
