  • Welcome back to another Rodenberg Rocks Video. Today, we met up with Rob of Michigan Rocks on the beaches of Northern Minnesota to look for some Lake Superior Agates. It was a very windy, misty, and wavy day today but yet we prevailed to make sure that we made some finds. There wasn't nothing keeping us from finding those agates, but if the camera or noise is a little skewed, the weather made it a little challenging to record!
    Extremely grateful for this hunt and getting to meet up with Rob. Fun Fact, when Covid was at its height, I saw one of Rob's videos on RUclips and he ignited the spark to go try the rock hounding life and I have been hooked ever since. Kind of a cool full circle moment to meet up with him and be one of his pitstops on his big rock hunting road trip!
    Thanks for checking out the video and would appreciate any support in joining the channel and I look forward to seeing and hearing from you all throughout this adventure!

      @@nathanstrohkirch8503 There wouldn't be puddingstones up there, but there are other conglomerates. Sorry we ignored that one.

    Nice you and Rob got to do some rock hunting together. I tried hunting the north shore last September. My mom and I didn't have much luck. But we love Beaver Bay rock store and another one up there. The Thomsonite in the museum was amazing. We didn't have the best weather. First day was beautiful in Duluth. Loved watching the ships. Was hoping to find some porphyria rocks with feldspar. You have such a big variety there. Minnesota is a beautiful state.

      I stopped at that rock shop/museum in Beaver Bay too. Everything in the museum was just incredible.

      For the amount I love to see some agates, I have yet to go to the Beaver Bay rock shop but have heard nothing but great things about it! I guess Rob can attest to that!
      Minnesota is very beautiful indeed. We found a few pieces of porphyria but we ended up leaving them on the shore!

    Thats awesome you got to go hounding with Rob. Killer finds for the day. Nothing beats Minnesota LSA's. Beautiful colors and nice defined bands. What a great beach. I know what you mean about the game of recording when the waves are crazy. The lake giveth and taketh away. Great video!

    i've searched around Brighton Beach in Duluth with no luck. never found anything but splinters and shards. i've heard there's a place along the North Shore called agate beach, not sure if it's real or a tall tale. oh well, i'll keep looking :)

      The beaches by Tofte are supposed to be good but they get picked over. The gravel roads in the moose lake area are good.

      Brighton Beach is a fairly populous beach so I never have much luck up there either. I typically will try and get out of Duluth Atleast 15 minutes to the north. I have also heard of this famed agate beach but I have never made a journey to find it yet. Maybe one day…

      @@rodenbergrocks I've heard the gravel pits are picked over. My rockhound partner walked the roads by moose lake for 20 minutes and came back with a lot of agates. Some were good sized ones. The agate museum at Moose Lake state park is not to be missed.

    So cool that you got to meet up with Rob! I'm from the same area in Michigan as him and also got hooked on rocks from his videos. I would love to get up to the north shore! Hoping this will be my year to go... how long ago was this recorded?

    • @rodenbergrocks
      @rodenbergrocks  Год назад +1

      Hi Joolz! We met up the second week of May! The weather takes a bit longer to be nice in Northern MN! The north shore has lots of opportunities for rock hunting so I highly recommend it and wish you luck when you make it up here!

    It's so funny to read the names of others who have commented, "agate beauties" "tennessee rocks" "dustin finds rocks".
