Most of time its because of technical problems though, I believe when you sing exclusively your own songs several times per month it gets really hard to mess it up. Unless you have a really hard repertoire helped by professional recording programs to shape your voice like some talentless singers out there, you'll only mess it up when youre tired, sick or with technical problems.
i noticed sometimes the "easier" song is to sing, the tougher it is to sing, plus your diet is crucial, plus not every song is for everybody, are you tired, stressed out, in pain, so many things have to align for somebody to sound their best live, i wish more people understood this
