Reptile House was their best work by far. They started to get too polished after Ben Gunn left.
I really like these recordings. They feel very talented but somehow less produced and it allows for a certain roughness to shine through. Like being able to hear masterpieces played over lower quality equipment and it revisiting their character.
Stunning, Marks guitar and Craigs bass the stand outs for me.
My heartland heartland heartland My heartland heartland heartland ❤️
This was taped on March 6, 1983 and broadcast on March 10, 1983 for David/Kid Jensen on the BBC. I way prefer these versions to the studio ones released on "The Reptile House" and "Temple Of Love" EP's. Once the original band split Andrew never regained their greatness.

The lead guitar work on Burn is beautiful in terms of its timing and the sustain of the notes.
This. This is purley as good as music can be.
Picked this up on lp twenty years ago lol... My favorite is body electric. This singer is a poet.
I got it on a vinyl bootleg about 30 years ago, cost me £20 (a lot of money back then, enough to get a teenth, some baccy & skins, go to the cider bar, then Timepiece, a kebab and still have 50p for the electric meter).
@@ebobsmith9596 You were robbed. I got it around the same time for (the equivalent to) £12... and felt slightly bamboozled nonetheless!
Even so, that didn't stop me from buying 4 more bootleg LP's and about a dozen CD's (live recordings mostly) in a 2 or 3 year period in the late 80's and early 90's...
I really LOVED the Sisters back then and I dearly miss the many other ways they made me feel.
Less bad times!
Cheers.
Drums on this version of Heartland are great, really electro-y- like Drexciya or something
Sisters and Drexciya fan I see, respect :)
Yeah I was impressed too! How did they get this kind of cristal glass sound on the snare drum? Vocals are not that good though...
Great recordings. I don't think I have heard these before. Thanks!
!
GOOOOOOOSEBUMPS !!!!!! from head to feet
love " burn " and his huge rampant , bass sound !!!
dreamin' of lost times 😓
Yep, lost times that was the moment!
@@JIMHusky love it so much
Thanks for posting this NewXymoxWave! The sound is super HQ for a BBC radio live session... the songs they played in this 83 session are among the best work of The Sisters of Mercy! Gothic rules!!! And Eldritch is a dark goth soul...
I'd add I was gutted when the Reptile House ep came out - what happened to these songs!?
Valeu
A Giant and Wonderful recording. Thank youuu..
The lyrics on "Heartland" are much more clearly enunciated that on the 12" version!
Great versions, and awesome cover of Jolene, cheers!
Still sounds so so good 💓
Cracking set of some of their finest outings and tremendous quality. Thank you!
!Thank's.
Heartland/Reptile House/Valentine/Jolene (snippet). It's a bit tinny but it's gorgeous! So many thanks to you for sharing this...
Thanks for posting, never heard this before!
ya it not fair why do we not get this stuff what less have we not heard
THANKS for sharing, the sound is far better than on those old bootlegs.
Thanks!
Excelente!!!
Tons of art school bands started exactly like this.
The Sisters of Mercy is still my first place favorite band and then in second place is Midnight Oil. Thanks for sharing this with us.
This band is one of the best from this period along with the Cure, Joy Divison, Siouxsie. Too bad, they didn't last very long. The ones that gave this a thumbs down need help.
thanks
thx 😎
I went to this gig www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-sisters-of-mercy/1984/queen-margaret-union-glasgow-scotland-2bc69046.html and very good it was too. Then I was backstage, yapped away with Gary Marx for hours. Meet the Eldritch as well an a most rum fellow he was. The Sisters of Mercy were absolutely staggeringly great that night.
It's not a Peel Session though, it's a Richard Skinner session. It has nothing to do with John Peel.
Vibracobra23 ---I IDENTIFY IN THE DESCRIPTION WHETHER YOU FIND ANOTHER TITLE DISCLOSED TO US .
I think it's a David Jensen session for BBC Radio 1.

I'm curious to know what Andy thinks of Tavistock.
Love the mix, but description is wrong. There are 4 songs,#3 is Valentine and Jolene is #4
You are correct and its a great early Sisters session. But Eldritch was never a goth, hahaha

There's no song called "Reptile House" it's called Burn
great find, thanks for the download xymoxwave. As an old, origional 'wave' Goth I'm going to avoid any Eldritch controversy, but if your going to claim he wasn't a goth , in a 'goth' band and then Hussey and Adams jumped ship to forma distinctly 'not a goth' band.. mhhh. Anyway , nice to hear some early stuff, now if only someone has the earlier sessions with The Damage Done / Watch / Home Of The Hit-Me recorded, that would be amazing, or just downloaded their first single/e.p...
Well said Lee. Eldtritch fuelled the "Goth Image😉" even though St Nick (Nick Cave) perfected the big hair. No one and I mean no one beats the Nick Cave "Birthday Party " look. I was lucky enough to have the same hair as Cave and I often wore my Birthday Party t-shirt in these hot Australian summers. In winter most copied Eldtritch and the look from their 1985 Wake concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Later people copied the black motor bike jacket look with no shirt underneath, tattered tight black jeans and a scarf for a belt. Some people brought the huge Jim Morrison belt to go with the jeans. A good thing Eldtritch wasn't a goth. Ha ha ham
I am glad you cited the pre-First and Last & Always singles and EP's. They were painfully expensive here in Sydney, Australia as they were imported. I paid $20 for the Reptile House DO which only had the songs Reptile House/Fixx/Kiss the Carpet.
Thanks Frosted, and you'r Nick Cave gets forgotten, but shouldn't do, and we forgot how widespread the Sisters were, there's a good video here of their 1983 US tour. It's always great to hear from our Antipodean cousins, and your right about the price of the origional EP's, even in the UK at the time they cost £3.00 which was a lot back then!
!
Il Ye Aulde Goff time, I guess everone who was into guitar and not singing "happy, happy" was tagged as goff (To me, The Cult - even pre-subpar-AC/DC-clone are not goff, not things like Clayton Troupe) just like a few years before, if you had short hair, you were "punk" (Even Little Bob story was tgged as "punk" for a short while) Oh, bollocks, I'm old ! ;)
pateris I always thought the Cult were subpar Led Zep! Now Death Cult and Southern Death Cult, they had something
ponha o chapeu porque tem que se esconder
Who are the personnel on these recordings? Aside from Andrew and the drum machine, of course.
Gary Marx, Ben Gunn and Craig Adams. Level of assurance: 100%
Did they record these versions of the songs before the Reptile House EP came out? If they did, how could they have allowed the record to be released, it's so weak compared to this

🤔.....Azrael.
Denied Gothic. Very little more Gothic than the second track. Ok! Perhaps the 3rd track is more Gothic than the second track.
