5:50 PM - Alert #IMPD officers responding to a domestic call at 1115 Mount St are credited with successfully removing an uncooperative male (58) from his burning home after occupants say he intentionally set it on fire and barricaded himself inside. Officers, forcibly moved a dresser blocking the front door and entered the structure. Despite active fire in a nearby bedroom, the man refused to leave. Officers applied handcuffs to the man and pulled him out of the residence. He was placed under arrest. Officers also made an attempt to extinguish the blaze with a small extinguisher to no avail.
#IFD firefighters made an aggressive attack on both the structure and the vehicle and prevented it from communicating to an occupied structure next door. The blaze was marked under control in 20 minutes. Firefighters had to contend with multiple rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle going off. 1 firefighter sustained a slight injury and was transported to Methodist for check out. 2 adults were displaced from the home on fire.
IMPD District Officers along with the IFD/IMPD Fire Investigations unit continue to investigate the domestic incident and resulting arson.
