In the late 60's I was working at a gas station. Got a call from a guy that was changing his oil at home and had twisted the can off the flange. I towed it to the station, got it on. a lift and was able to get a bar on it and tap the bar until the base of the filter came loose. Probably the most expensive oil change he'd ever done at home.
My goodness, this man knows automobiles inside and out. Amazing watching how Scott works. I change a tire, I got to watch 27 RUclips videos then give up and ask my neighbor to do the job....
I have a 2002 Silverado 1500... It started it's life near Buffalo because it loved the Lake Effect Snow... and I bought it in 2013 and immediately replaced the rocker panels and then cavity waxed EVERYTHING. In 2015 I moved up here to Minneapolis... and every other year I went to a detailer and had the rust proofing treatment. Everything is still rusting. I love it... it runs great... but seriously, this road salt issue is a major problem! Doesn't seem to matter what you do...
Good to see the GMT800 back on the channel. That's a great deal on that bed. Here in SC you can't get one that cheap. Every time I've called a yard around here they say "Oh we sell all our beds to a guy in Canada who comes down and buys all we have" If you can find one they're $1000 That truck really turned out nice!
We have the same problem is Texas, Mexicans buy all the good fenders, doors, beds up and stack them on big trucks and take them across the border... Scott buys the rest of our nice Texas rust free trucks 🤨
I like the balljoint press for u-joints, great idea. My dad used a bench vise and sockets to press them out, same thing you said about messing up the needle bearings using a hammer. I've used his method since.
My Dad showed me how to use a large screwdriver to punch holes into the oil filter for removal, but I like your method. I've had 2 vehicles that needed the screwdriver method for oil filter removal. Both times it was the first oil change on new vehicles. I think the Jiffy Lube guys were working at the vehicle manufacturers installing oil filters! You did a good job. Nice looking vehicle!
I was once a shadow knome 45 years ago and I had I guy like you Scott that let me get my hands dirty which helped me learn a lot about cars. This project is so old I need to look back at the older videos to remember what it was like in the beginning. LOL Dirty I recall but maybe all red too. thanks Scott
Waiting for parts at the right price really does slow down projects. I am patient I can wait while waiting for my own parts. Have a great weekend. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for this series ! I have a 2000 Silverado 2500 extended cab that I’m restoring. Replacing the U joints and talk Goff the dash cover all all things I need to do. These videos have been very informative!! Keep on wrenching bud ! 👍👍🙌🙌
Thank you for ending it where you did, as I was starting to feel chest pains seeing so much dust and grime covering all your hard work on this truck. Great job so far ...
When you want to remove those plastic-injected u-joint retainers, just heat the saddle on the u-joint with a propane torch and the plastic will ooze out of the hole where it was injected slowly enough that you can then just whack the yoke with a ball pein hammer. Easy-peasy. I've done it that way for 50 years. You don't need to heat the yoke until it's cherry --- just hot enough to remove skin.
that was a steal for the bed. already assembly, all the parts from same bed. you are quite correct Scott, that front end and U joint will never see a grease gun again. Jiffy Lube's knuckle dragging 'techs' are lucky they remember to put the oil drain plug back in much less where grease fittings are. I gave up long ago spinning oil filters off by hand , I go right to the Jiffy Lube/Pepboys/FireStone oil filter removal method
Wow this is part 6. I better look the other 5. I know I’ve seen them because I do not miss the Friday matinee. Doesn’t matter it will turn out super. See you in the next installment.
As part of my job with an electrician, we have to service generators. Those filters must have a secret tank in them. No matter how many holes you make, they still have at least two quarts in them when you spin 'em off. lol I almost forgot about this truck. Glad to see it back.
Well this is a sign of the Apocalypses! Either the clean freaks got to Scott or he's an Alien! I mean both the Passenger and Driver windows were spotless!
Here we are again, literally to the 1% who's reading this, God bless you, and may your dreams come true, stay safe and have a wonderful and blessed day.😇
spent all day wrestling an oil filter of a renault last year, used every trick i had and it wouldnt move,it beat me so i had to take the front end off in the end to get to it
You poke fun about greasing, I have a new one for you. I found a fancy Jon Deere mower in the trash and grabbed it for fun. The front wheels were supposed to swivel. No dice. I took them apart, by the hardest I might say. Even with a grease zerk right out in front of everything they had never been greased. Not even by Deere John. Go figure. Great video sir.
Great Job Sir. If anyone reads this... If you have an Escalade, or a Yukon Denali, with full time AWD, you GOTTA change that front diff fluid... Like, often. 20k. It's super duper easy, as Scott says. Just change it!!! That front diff is expensive... 75w150 fluid is cheap..... Do the right thing...
Yep glass in the interior. All my vehicles come equipped with "poverty diamonds" or I install them myself. I did get myself a torque rag to put on oil filters. My Vulcan Death Grip is not what it used to be. Snap On torque rags are pricey....Harbor Freight for me. Thanks for the video.
You can fix that shedding hood liner with a layer of fiberglas resin over the area that's coming apart and if it looks real weak add a layer of fiberglas to reinforce it. ... F
Love all your video's. I'm looking at buying a wrecked 2013 Silverado that has blown seat belts and side curtain bags. I think I read that was the first year Chevy put in side curtain bags. Looks pretty straight forward - remove headliner and replace curtain bags. Anything special about that year truck to be aware of? Thanks
I bought my first and only pickle fork 35 years ago. I remember going to buy it and ask the store where there pickle forks were and they had no clue what I was asking for. They thought I was being a smart ass. I told them to look them up online and they realized I wasn't a tool.
Scott, whats your cool nickname, Boss Gnome? :) I like your oil filter wrench. We had one, it was a bicycle chain tool, it would wrap around all sizes and crunch down nice and tight to turn those things.
I'm not a clean freak, but watching you work under the truck with the grease, leaked oil, dirt and muck, even I would have power washed the underside. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Maryland.

Still safe still very functional. Agreed it's a stretch for a car or truck to last 40 years (new ones especially) but when you sell a vehicle it has the Scott's Good Housekeeping Seal of car/truck rebuilds and, from what I see is better where you have been than it was new. Your channel is in my top 5 for new content.I enjoy a good therapy session with the Good doctor of automotive rebuild at the Vehcor channel! Thanks for being consistent. Man I would love to find one of them reg cab short bed 4x4’s to restore but I’m not paying what they go for lol. Here in east Texas that would be a $10k truck easy…..
Scott that was very considerate of you to flatten those tires for the painting gnomes.

I'm glad you're resuming work on this truck. Been looking forward to it. You do great work.
Loctite on the oil filter, at 43:20. I love it. Thanks.

When you finish putting the truck together I think the Supervisor would like a ride. 😎😎😎

Scott, This attention to detail is why people beat a path to your website to buy these vehicles that you repair. Great work!!!
I've watched alot of your videos and from what I can see, it looks like the painting gnomes do good work.
