    My EV battery has a desiccant filter that needs to be changed once a year. The fluid in the final drive needs to be checked for contamination. The annual service/checks are about 1/8th the cost of my ICE vehicle of the same brand.

    I always take out a servicing package with a new car. The cost for a 3-year deal for my Hyundai IONIQ 5, including its first MOT, was a fraction of the cost of servicing my Mitsubishi PHEV over the same period. Plus, some manufacturers tie in annual servicing to the warranty conditions.

      You got an IONIQ5...jealous! Good point about the servicing tie-in! Thanks for the comment Chris!

    ICE Technicians are in high demand here in the US. For every graduating tech there are 5.3 jobs waiting to be filled. With more EVs hitting the road everyday how is the workforce going to be able to keep up?

    Hi Martin I just started watching your videos it's very enjoyable and very knowledgeable information. Talking specifically to servicing do you feel it's worth investing in the service contract for an EV. What are your thoughts. I'm in the process of buying an ionic 5.

    • @BestElectricVehicle
      @BestElectricVehicle  2 года назад +1

      That's hard to say, it'll really be down to personal choice. But there's so little to go wrong with EVs that it's really worth thinking about before signing up. Suppose it depends on whether or not having the service contract gives you peace of mind that's worth more than the cost of it. Thanks for the comment, and glad you enjoy the videos!

    Good Benefits all from the perspective of buying new within the warranty period.. once the warranty expires .. wonder how the Used EV market will fair.. since engines are sealed units could be costly.

    I would like to know over how many miles of normal driving can you expect to receive from the OEM tires that are on a well aligned electric vehicle.🤷🏼‍♂️

      I have just replaced the original front tyres on my Renault Zoe at 30,000 miles. The rear tyres still have plenty of tread and I expect to get 40,000 miles out of them, possibly more?

    • @garyclark6747
      @garyclark6747 3 года назад

      @@malcolmfowler8972 Thanks for the feed back. Do you have any comparison to an ICE vehicle of same size tire? I just don’t know how good the tire compounds have gotten for tread wear ratings while maintaining grip which are usually the two counter opposed ratings on a tire to the another. Get them too hard to last longer and they’ll squeal under the least bit of a turn.

    • @malcolmfowler8972
      @malcolmfowler8972 3 года назад +2

      @@garyclark6747 I always drove small hatchback ICE cars which had narrower tyres than my Zoe so I can't give a direct comparison.
      The Zoe tyres don't squeal (not when driven normally) and the grip seems fine. Despite reading that EV's wear out tyres faster than ICE cars I haven't found that to be the case. You just need to make sure tyres fitted to EV's are of the correct specification for the extra weight of an EV.

    • @BestElectricVehicle

      Good question Gary. One of the guys on the team here replaced front tyres of a LEAF 30 at about 60,000km and is still on the back originals at nearly 100,000km! All depends on how you drive I suppose!

      I have a retired certified tech work on my Tesla 3. He highly recommends 30K oil and filter changes on the drive units. Also says that the annual service is extremely important. While doing the brake caliper service he also checks the wear pattern on the tires and torques the suspension mounting bolts. He recommends a weighted wheel alignment primarily after the first year from new as it is his observation that the factory alignment has not been very precise. He feels that a lot of the early tire replacement has been due to alignment issues.

    I took my EV for its second service last week, it took them an hour and charged me £227.72, £187 was for labour? My first service on my EV was under £73! I queered the cost of my second service and asked why the labour was so high - That's the price of the service was their answer! My EV has only done 10.000 miles in just over 2 years, I drive my EV on eco, I stay within the speed limits, yet I received an advisory saying that my back brake pads and discs will need replaced within 6 months? EVs were meaning to help save the ozone/earth, but it will cost us EV owners, while others drive around in smelly fumed bangers! It isn't going too work!

      If any of that is true, what did they actually service. I have a 2015 Fiat 500e since 2018, no service, 1 alignment, no prob. Sounds like you did much more than the scheduled maintenance for most EVs, if even that's not a rip off. It sounds like you handed your wallet to the dealer and said do what you need to, or this is all made up. Even my BMW I3 dealer maintenance is cheaper
