@@welshtoro3256 not sure that’s the issue at hand here WT. the proof is in the pudding. In the US bourbon priced higher doesn’t become a secondary bottle despite quality other than Pappy Van Winkle which arguably is well priced at retail anyway. Therefore if Springbank was charging 350 for the 21 5 years ago and is now charging 500. I’d rather the inflation which allows for A) profits to go to the distiller rather than the secondary leech B) have the chance at a bottle due to roughly 35% mark up rather than it disappear immediately on retail and then have to pay 100-200% more on secondary to even get a sniff (whether I would or not).
Hazelburn and wonderful sherry is such magic. Clean is the way I describe this triple matured version. Dustin and I have been debating this bottle, not cheap... sounds worth it.
Don't you just love the fact that Springbank Distillery use the labels even though they are imperfect with missing ink normally along the top edge. For them it is all about the contents of the bottle. I really enjoyed this bottling.
Nice one I tried in a show in Paris & quite liked it, but not for the price asked for it now....and I'm not even talking about availibilty...Thanks for the review...
US retail for sure needs to chill; every single time my local store that stocks springbank gets a new batch they raise the prices across the board. I’m letting them collect dust at this point
Y'all so fresh and so clean! Haha, I grabbed a few Hazelburn 15 Oloroso CS, 54.2%, I gotta agree on the clarity and refinement of the Hazelburn expressions, I love going side by side with a Longrow Red and just goin' to funkytown. Cheers brothas!🥃
This sounds amazing. In May when I was in Scotland saw these bottles in shops. They didn't have a price placard next to them. One of those if you have to ask... 🤣 Didn't see one in a bar to have a dram of but did spend way too much in Milroys in London and The Malt Room in Inverness on some amazing drams that will probably never see again. Even more importantly I met up with a bunch of wonderful people that I have been chatting with on RUclips for years. Brought a bunch of samples from great K&L indi bottles that I handed off and brought back even more samples than I brought thanks to the generously of the community. Also brought a ECBP C917 bottle that I poured all over Scotland for everyone which was a lot of fun. Got the idea from Phil and Deepa as they did it in 2019. Cheers and merry Christmas guy's
I can still buy this bottle as well as Longrow 21 single cask in my local liquor store but for 575$ I was like no way. My friend even offered me 15% off but still it’s too much for a 21 year old expression at 46%. I remember buying both 19 and 20 release of Springbank 21 for under 400$ so have a hard time justifying the prices. Instead I bought 2 Hazelburn 15 Oloroso which is just amazing especially when you consider it’s cask strength and only 165$
This is a bottle that I got a couple ounces of and after trying it, couldn't justify the US prices for it, which is a shame since I love Hazelburn and was awaiting this one for years. I agree it was super clean, but it was so delicate and for me and missing that "it" factor. I wonder if Hazelburn at 46%, missing the extra complexity since its unpeated, and IMO missing the "funk" that often get aged out of many springbanks at 20+ years, will just result in a subdued dram... I'd like to see something at this age but 50%+ abv.
Sounds really delicious. But $500 for a 21 yr, 46 abv that's not a single barrel at cask strength. That's a bit expensive for me. I think I would rather go with a really nice Hazelburn 15 yr. Great review.
@@maltreviews In my 5 years at TW, I've never seen a Hazelburn 15. Only the SB 15 has come and far less often than 5 years ago. When they do come, its usually a bottle buy. Meaning, less than a case. Supply & demand.😡
cheapest I have seen that 21 in the U.S. was $700. Pacific Edge Imports is why J&A Mitchell stuff is so over priced in the U.S. they are charging as much as they can for it and striking while the iron is hot. 3 years ago Springbank 12 CS was $85 MSRP and it's now $130 and Kilkerran 12 was $55 and now it's $100. I saw the new Campeltown Loch at K&L and it was $80 and I passed. J&A Mitchell products should not be bought in the U.S. now
American Retailers are notorious for price gauging American customers … good old ‘American Greed’ … better to order from overseas and pay the shipping than support your local price gauging liquor store …
Pure clickbait for WT. I have no doubt that this is good whisky but that can be said of a lot of whisky that doesn't cost 500 bucks. I don't even have to taste it to know I don't think it's worth it. There are Health Food shops that sell small jars of Manuka honey in Britain that cost £75+. I don't know if the people that buy the stuff spread it on their arseholes for its curative properties but most folk eat very tasty honey on toast or in their yogurt. There's no need to spend more than £10 a jar/pot to find excellent honey. Why on earth is it necessary to spend $500 on a modern bottle of 21 year old whisky, only to conclude that it tastes very good? It sells for that money because the distillery know some folk just can't resist the lure of ownership. Macallan reached that conclusion a number of years ago and how do we feel about them? Springbank enjoy a cutesy-pie, craft distillery, image but their pricing and marketing is moving further and further away from that. They're just pitching at people with deep pockets Macallan style. (I have my own thoughts about the retailers but I'll save that for another day.) Great review guys. Price is a thing as it is in everything. I have a nifty Ford Fiesta Titanium car and I'm very happy with it. How happy would I be if it cost me £100,000? How happy would I be if my quality Spanish chorizo cost £20 instead of £4? If an excellent take away curry cost £150 instead of £20? You see where I'm going with this and the bottom line is that this kind of thing was way cheaper just a few years ago. Cheers guys. Welsh
Lol your making that honey sound really good WT. I hear you and Springbank is going to that Macallan direction here in the US. Stores were struggling to get Mac 18 last year and now its not selling so people eventually do stop when prices go too far. Oh and Ill take 2 of those Spanish chorizos my friend!! Cheers!
Love this whisky. I hate paying $500 for it though. That’s the only reason the 21+ year olds are somewhat available though.
Interesting logic Rob. Let's put up prices so we can all enjoy a bottle. 🤔
@@welshtoro3256 better to pay 30% more to the retailer/distillery than 300% more to the jerk on secondary a week after its release.
@@WhiskyInThe6 Something I would never do.

Really, Mike, at $500+? I can think of so many things I'd rather spend that money on.
For sure , its not cheap and I have a feeling the better value is the 15
Get it. Just get it.
Thanks 🙏 again gentlemen! A fine review. Ciao 👋 S.
most whisky prices need to chill the f*&k out and with a recession looming I think the tide will finally turn in respect to prices.
I really hope so. It's completely up its arse and I have no sympathy with the industry whatsoever.
I agree!!!

Hazelburn is not cask strength
I hear you. I am waiting on a bottle of that 15 which sounds like the better deal.
Hi guys I’m in New York City could you please recommend an auction site that you use if I recall I believe both of you were in California.

For sure and for all those reasons the $500 price tag is too high.
Thanks for another great review! On which auction sites do you buy whisky? It would be good to know.
We buy from all of them over the years. A couple trusted ones are whiskyauctioneer and scotchwhiskyauctions

I sympathise and agree. I wouldn't buy any of those bottles at those prices. It's virtually impossible to buy them at all in the U.K.
Yes its getting crazy and I do think people will stop buying if this trend continues as some of us are already giving it a pass
