The non-stream playthroughs are so peaceful and remind me of a podcast, especially with your small stories and comments inbetween gameplay related things. Thank you for posting this ^^ Today was kind of crappy and it was so nice to just lean back and relax and watch you play.
A lot of the gameplay in this actually kind of reminds me of the Monster Hunter series. You have a hub base, you go out and collect materials and then upgrade your stuff with it and repair.

I think it takes big balls to admit when you might have made a mistake or done something wrong or less than the best and then do it again. This is a HUGE improvement over the first stream. I hope you really do enjoy it now. I was sad to see you fight the game initially and am glad to see you come back with a fresh attitude and a better understanding of what its offering. Great vid. Yeah! Completely agree, it's a great way to do things.
I really dislike watching streamers that just skip hours of looting or driving, because it just doesn't feel like you're "experiencing" the game alongside them.
But at the same time, it is 'boring content' so it's a nice way of handling it

  • @Halfelfaedyn
    @Halfelfaedyn 7 месяцев назад +35

I'm finding the recording more fun than streaming for this game. I love that you don't have too much pressure on you to keep it fast-paced and new and can enjoy yourself collecting. The edits are fun. I'd be fine if you even just showed big cuts saying you scrapped it if it's easier on you. Thanks for playing!
About the game not being fully open world, I know a certain format becomes standard when it is well liked in a community, but video games are interactive storytelling and there's so many ways to do that. In some ways, pockets of open world lead to more of a completion feeling each time you're done with them.

    some feedback:
    - the scrapping and repairing compilations were super satisfying xD
    - the squares saying Log / Photo beside status of items you look at shows if you scanned them, you got a lot more to scan still :) as you say, some is useful for crafting
    - z or y autosorts inventories
    - holding tab will get you immediatly to the log entry of whatever you just scanned or also of what you look at currently
    - you can throw stuff / bunnies for example with right click, the longer you hold the farther you throw.
    - the crafting menu on the lower right side allows you to fast craft steel for example directly at the item that needs it. also down there is a display that shows you how many of something you have installed and in what state they are.

Some small tips: You can throw things with right click, you can throw the bunnies and they wont try to reattach to your car and get stuck where they land, alternatively you can just use your scrapper on them and they will give electronics. You can also use flares and the bunnies to distract some anomalies by throwing them. Chemicals are annoying to find and are required for some of the more important upgrades as well as for repair putty, so if you find a transmute station for them its definitely worth whatever it asks for.

And even when there are bike lanes in areas with slower speed limits it’s still dangerous. When I was in college I lucked out because I could use my bike to go to campus, a dollar store, and my apartment all on a protected bike lane. I got clipped by a truck with those long mirrors and it knocked me off my bike and he hit the wheel when I fell somehow because it was a little warped after that. It dislocated my shoulder and he just kept driving. I got his license plate and tried to report it, but the cops wouldn’t even file a report. They said it was a waste of time because they didn’t consider it a hit and run because “he probably didn’t realize he hit you” and they said to just use the side walk and walk. And I’m like, dude, I’ve got injured and there were witnesses and it was the bike lane. So even when it’s protected lanes, it’s dangerous, and the traffic cops aren’t guaranteed to even help you.

    • @jujijuman
      @jujijuman 7 месяцев назад +5

realistically. besides the big cities, its not worth it. The US alone is practically the size of Europe. Our states werent built with the same density of a european country. In cities, having a house is not really a thing so the utility that a car like an SUV or truck provides is not really necessary. outside the city, the odds of a person living or owning a home skyrockets. This is important because weather its furniture, materials for home repair, appliances or traveling with family, you'll want a bigger vehicle.

When I lived in Phoenix, Arizona, we didn't have a car and would just bike or walk everywhere. The place, like everywhere else in the US, is absolutely designed with cars in mind, but there was enough support for bikes that we could get around. The busses had a bike rack on the front that we would use. Even though it was a pain to have to bike or walk everywhere I enjoyed it thoroughly and would absolutely love if I lived in a more walking and biking friendly city. American urban planning and our obsession with cars is grating, to say the least.

Despite the silly things that can happen. Yesterday I got super lucky though. Scrapper was about to break, a new, perfect condition scrapper fell from the sky out of nowhere and resupplied me. Not gonna lie, that shit made me roll on the floor laughing. And yes, absolutely, get the Offroad tires. Most gateways are not on the roads anyways. So having those tires is a godsend. ;)

Hi there! I was born and raised here on the Olympic Penninsula. There are places where we can bike but they're mostly nature trails and dont go anywhere important. To get places you have to drive because walking and biking can be dangerous with narrow roads and sharp corners. Since theres not a lot of population, people often speed as well with no repercussions. Not to mention the constant rain and wind most of the year. Even driving can be dangerous.

Hey Insym, im from the UK and we have terrible bike infrastructure. You'd have to cycle on the road (with helmet ofc) at risk of drivers overtaking or potentially not respecting your space. There are a few good offroad tracks but they're more for leisure instead of transport. I know London has bikes to rent around the city, but not sure how Safe it is.

throw burning flares at the dummies to make them explode at safe distance, they sometime drop thermo crystals which are ultra rare hard to get and you need a LOT of them (or plasma if the electric ones), also its lot cheaper to replace crude and steel panels than it is to repair it.

    My drivers test was WILD.
I was afraid of the parking, so a few hours before my test my dad took me to the local highschool parking lot to practice. I could NOT PARK TO SAVE MY LIFE even after like two hours of extra practice. It was not my first time parking so idk what happened. My dad looked so disappointed, he basically told me to resign myself to failure as nicely as possible. I don't know how but that must have woken up something in me because when I got to the exam, I ACED the parking. The dude even told me I was one of the best parallel and rear parkers he had in a long time. I didn't have a fancy car with a camera or anything so I guess that helped. The look on my dads face in the rear view mirror was *priceless*. After a dog ran out in front of the car, I didn't understand a question he was asking me, and I was too stressed on the highway, I still passed. The guy was impressed with how I managed so many obstacles but little did he know I had been possessed by the parking demon that day lol.

I love the aesthetic of this game!!! It's like good grungy! Also, I'd say where I live (Utah, USA) is like Medium/High bike friendly, especially the city where I live. We have a big outdoorsy and active community (big big mountains) so there's normally a bike path or large shoulder for bikes and if not drivers are competent and friendly to bikers. I think the farther away from bigger cities the more people might look at you funny if you say it's your primary mode of transportation but overall pretty bike friendly.

In BC, Canada, getting your full license takes years. At 16, you can get your learners license, and 17 you can get your Novice license. You have to have your L for I think at least 3 months b4 taking your test. You have to have your N for 2 years before your able to take your class 5 (basic full license). classes 1-4 are different commercial licenses. The L test is basically a 20 question multiple choice test, and if you get 80%, you pass. With an L, you have to have a passenger with you who is a class 5 and I think at least 20 years old. You can't drive at night, and can only have 1 additional passenger. The N test and class 5 are the same though when you have an N you can only have 2 passengers. You go for a 45 minute drive around one of many set paths through a neighborhood nearby. You're tested on basically the majority of different road types, intersections, etc. They're super anal about how often you check your mirrors and blind spots. If you go a few km/hr over the speed limit for a moment, but correct it quickly it's fine. EXCEPT if you go over 30 in a school or park zone. That is an immediate fail.
There is driving school, but it's optional. Most people just get taught by their parents, so their shit driving practices rub off on their kids. My dad's a bus driver (class 2) so he was very knowledgeable and strict about the rules of the road, so I passed both tests on the first try. Given how intense this process is, you'd think people here would drive decently, but god no. It's the norm to go 20 over basically everywhere, and most people never fully stop at a stop sign. Proper following distance? who is she lol. I try to keep the proper following distance, but most of the time people see that as free real estate and cut me off. The closer to Vancouver you get, the worse it gets.
A funny thing though is you can tell who is a learner or novice, because they have to have an 'L' or 'N' magnet on the back of the car. Pure comedy when you see someone driving like a moron and you see a bright red L or green N on the car.

I will have to do another play through and see how much changes on the map between each one.

6:40 - I bike because I can't afford a car, even if someone gave me one for free. I prefer to bike anyway, but the biking infrastructure in my city is a barely an afterthought in most places. There are some good bike lanes and trails here and there, but most of the time you're relegated to trails that have inch-wide gaps every 20 feet, sidewalks nobody uses because everything's too far apart, or bike lanes that pop in and out of existence alongside 55 mph traffic.

Heya Insym, how ya doin’? Here in Sweden we have special bike/walking roads in our cities, how good they’re and how much they cover the city depends from city to city. In my town, approximately 120k citizens, you can bike almost anywhere on these roads, but you have to cross several normal roads now and then but the crossings often have some speed bumps and such to slow down the cars or they could also have traffic lights for both cars and bikes/pedestrians. I mostly drive as I need my car in my work going to costumers but my gf always uses one of her many bikes. Yeah, pluralis! Some girls has a lot of shoes, she has bikes! One for winter and snow (special tires etc), one for normal riding in non winter weather and a MTB for riding in the woods. She likes bikes and haven’t driven a car for years. My bike is … well our son borrowed my bike 1 year to ride from home to work. It was in very good shape before that … now … it looks like it’s been run over! It was such a nice bike, 7 speed Batavia city bike made in the Netherlands. I had been taking car of it, not letting it be out in the rain etc. It’s a mess now, partes gone, rust, crooked wheels so sad and I don’t think our bicycle repairman, even that he’s a super hero, can fix it! 😢

In America getting your driver's license completely depends on where you are. Even city to city the requirements change. But generally you have to know how to drive well enough to not cause a crash.

According to a friend I had who had a ridiculously bright coloured car. Apparently some insurers give you a cheaper quote because "it's a lot harder for other drivers to say they didn't see you"
So that's one reason you might want that "lovely" green irl

In the US we have a temp license for 6 months. Have to drive with someone over 25 then can take the test. But they have you drive and and do a movability test. Which was hard when I was a kid lol

There is absolutely no biking infrastructure where I live :) there aren’t even sidewalks. I live less than a mile from the grocery store but the walkable areas in between are fenced off so the only option would be to walk on the soft shoulder of a busy road. I have had the same experience living in three states. Most walkable/bikable places in the US are downtown areas of major cities.

I like the environmental terror games like this and Subnautic more than the straight up horror games (which I never realized how big the genre was). Definitely hope you continue this, and your offline playthroughs seem to have a bit more relaxed feel. To your credit as a steamer though, you usually make the trudgery parts look fast. I've spent literally days idly mining and exploring terraria and in 4 hours you do a lot more than I do in 12.
My biggest question for this series is why remove the anchors before you've fully explored a space?
Also respect for going more story focused map exploration. I would have explored every location between the base and the story marker.

This and Sons of the Forest both have an amazing interface for character items and equipment. Pacific Drive is just a bit more simplistic in it's presentation, but that kind of jibes with the importance of the vehicle over personal or base storage.

Here in Colorado, USA, there are plenty of places to bike if by biking you mean either on a trail or straight up IN THE STREET WITH THE CARS AND NOTHING TO PROTECT YOU FROM THEM. I would bike more but I moved here in my 20's and I can't figure out if it's the elevation (over 5000 feet above sea level) or what, but whenever I try to bike I CANNOT BREATHE. I kept having to stop every few minutes just to catch my breath, even after WEEKS of daily biking, so I stopped biking (note I do not smoke, and as far as I know my lungs are perfectly healthy). And as for the person who said they just "drove around the church 3 times" to get their driver's license, they must have been from a very rural area or something because any self-respecting state that issues driver's licenses in the US requires you to pass a driving test and you have to have logged like 40 or so hours of driving, a proportion of which have to be at night. I totally lied about how many hours I did (definitely did nowhere close to 40) but I passed my driver's test on the second attempt, then I basically never drove again because I find it terrifying and I have public transit here that gets me almost anywhere, I can't afford a car, etc. I drove a moving van to move myself a couple times in the past few years and it went ok but I'm still afraid to drive and I absolutely cannot remember the method I was taught to perfectly parallel park so oops.
