Squall and Rinoa's romance is what makes this game good for me, it's not a love at first sight between, they got to know each other, started off pretty rocky, but as the game progressed they got to know each other and their bond strengthened
As introverted and reserved as Squall is, it's really touching how he goes out of his way for Rinoa when he realizes he's fallen in love with her. Opposites do bring out the best in each other.
Squall will likely always be my favourite protagonist in a Final Fantasy game. His development is simple. He goes from an introvert to someone who is forced to take responsibility as a leader and grows to genuinely care about Rinoa and his team members. The fact people think he is just a clone of Cloud is a disgrace
Everyone has different ways to show their love. Squall got really scared about losing Rinoa, and if you really love someone, you would understand Squall's act in this scene, trust me.

I loved how he never really showed any sign of feeling anything for Rinoa just little by little, but Rinoa was always the affectionate one and caring, then this happened and Squall couldn't be without her...even though there was no guarantee there was a little chance, and that was enough to travel all that way just to hear her voice.. its such a pretty story line.

I wonder why ppl are complaining that Squall left Rinoa by the train tracks ... since 17 years (the time Esthar cut every bond to the outer world) no trains are running to this country or out of it. So I don't think it's that dangerous ^^
Squall betrays everything he believes in when he does this. Hes always practical and closed off... This is the first time in the game where he's open and acts when the odds of success hardly exist at all.
I got to this scene by accident when I was playing. I was gonna go to the upper deck to go to Esthar but I decided "why not just check Rinoa out for a second" Then I got this scene which surprise me o.o I kept screaming at the TV saying "No!, I didn't want to kidnap her!" "Stop it Squall, put her back down!" But then I was like "Awww, Squall"
Oh I agree. This is the scene where Squall opens himself up to Rinoa, even though she's not conscious and cannot hear him. He tells her how he feels about himself and the way people perceive him. Then, she's able to see his love for her when he goes and rescues her from the Sorceress Memorial. The title of this song is 'Love Grows' and i made a video of it, if anyone wants to check it out. I think Squall and Rinoa are the best couple in the whole FF series (with Yuna/Tidus in 2nd place).
Nope. You trippin'. Cloud has more story to him than Squall, but all everyone remembers Cloud for is the freakin' emo movie version. Cloud has emotions, people! Play both games again! You'll see that Cloud has more personality than you remember.
I am also introverted and fairly anti-social. I was apprached by 2 girls during my school life. It was mostly akward, as I had no idea how to act in front of them. My voice shook up a little even when I tried to constantly talk normally. Even after seeing all that, they still wanted to be close to me. Too bad, the first girl transfered somewhere I had no idea about. The second time, it was me who transferred away. There goes the romance of my life up till now :p

FFVIII is my personal favorite FF. Great story, great characters (except for Zell) and great gameplay. Hey Square Enix, how about a HD Remaster or Remake??? Instead we're getting FFVII...
Every time I played Final Fantasy 8 and X/X-2, a part of me wishes I could be in love with a girl. It is a bit difficult because as much as I’m beloved by people around me, I kinda struggle with socializing sometimes as well and many of my friends have move on and are in a relationship with others they love. It can be tough dealing with those feelings of wanting love since some of the scenes with Squall and Rinoa and how Squall talks to Rinoa is now I would approach a girl but a part of me wants to give up and remain on my own. This game and FFX/X-2 still has one of the best love stories

That's what I like about FF8. Squall is the guy I can most identify with. He does everything exactly the way I would have done. And Rinoa... If I met a girl like her in real life, I would probably be scared to death and run away from her and be insanely in love with her at the same time. Relationships are scary. And beautiful. I wish there were happy endings in life as there are in the game. Well, that's why it's called Fantasy, final or not..
FFVIII has a much more personal story than most other Final Fantasy main series entries, in much the fashion Silent Hill 2 was the most personal game in that franchise; probably a big part of why I love both of them so much. I feel like many of the reviewers who bashed on this game never made it this far in, or fully grasped the multi-layered writing & complex, yet largely open ended game mechanics.
Very nice and everything, but the only thing I hate about this part is that Rinoa gets locked from the the party through all this segment. And she is my favorite character in the game.

How long would you say realistically did it take to walk across half of the Horizon Bridge scaled in real life? A month? Or is Esthar and Galbadia just 30 miles apart like the north and south shore of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway that inspired this bridge?
We like him because we know his story, and because he is the main character, so he is most probably not a bad person :p But if you meet someone like this in real life, you know nothing of them, whether they're really aholes or just bad at talking. In general, I think people like him will be more liked if people actually take the time to know them better, provides that this kind of people is actually kind on the inside and not totally jackasses.
That whole bridge, even though it still has electricity and well maintained considering......hasn't been used in 17 years. Even the Fisherman's Horizon railroad station is abandoned.

The game hinted it why Squall ended up that way because he got abandonment issue first he abandon by his father (which is Laguna) and second time by his 'Sis' (which is Ellone) when he was in orphanage which lead him to believe one day people will eventually leave him and after his second time that he got abandon he don't want to go through that feeling again hence why he become introverted and emotionless as he grew up (being in SeeD doesn't help either)

I tear up at this scene.
Every time I played Final Fantasy 8 and X/X-2, a part of me wishes I could be in love with a girl. Squall know Ellione can send consciousness to see the past so he want Ellione to send him to Rinoa's past to know the cause of the coma and the cure.

I think this is one of the most powerful moments in FF history, with being the same resemblance of FF6 epic gameness.

Yeah ff 8 had a bad battle system but it's the best romance story of all final fantasy games for me. next to it is ff IX
