    In defence of MAC, I totally understand why it’s quietly still so successful. I still use Fix +, a few of their lipsticks, the Pro Longwear concealer and the Painterly Paint Pot. It was the first makeup company that used drag queens, celebs of all sizes, colours, styles and had nine million shades of everything wayyyyy before that was expected of companies. When you went into their stores, there was something for everyone and everyone felt included. Not to mention, the solid products people love and repurchase rarely get discontinued or reformulated.

      They have a blush that I love! There is no other brand that makes that blush color and its called Gingerly, its in between a peachy pink and a brown. Brown blushes and peachy blushes look really harsh on my skin, but the combination in Gingerly. . .chef's kiss!!

      @romana.in.wonderland 2 года назад +1

      @@Jessie12N oh, Gingerly! I used and loved it years ago. Thank you for reminding me of this great colour!
      I use and repurchase the contour palette for two decades and their concealers are great. And I will own Club (eyeshadow) forever. The essence of the 90ties in a tiny pot.

    I am right there with you! I agree with Guerlain and Chanel. I have some of the 6 color Ecrin palettes from Guerlian. I love them but they have been discontinued. I have yet to try the new ones. I think I just will. But the Meteorites and Terracotta lines are by far my favorites lines of all. I also love the expanded Rouge G line. Innovation has made them so feminine and fun. And I collect Guerlain perfume. I have so many I cannot count them all. Probably around 50. LOL!
    Chanel....that is a love story of mine. I worked as Heart of the Store for the Waikiki and Ala Moana boutiques while in college. I got to meet Karl while there and travelled to Paris numerous times. He was so abrasive yet fun. He believed in his Chanel family so much. It was a lot smaller back then. RIP sweet Godfather of Fashion. My mother is a huge Chanel woman with the Clothes, her flap bag collection and No.19 parfum being her things mostly. Big bucks. I love Coco and that is where my love started. I have a small chain night bag and some wardrobe pieces too. I have worn their makeup since I could buy it for myself. I have very old eyeshadow palettes I no longer use but I hold onto them for nostalgia. I was dissappointed with the Tweed palettes too. Mediterranean and Instensite are my favorites right now. I also have almost all their women's fragrances. I am a huge frag head so....
    Lancome I love Definicils the most. I have tried others but I also go back to it. Absolue Rouge is awesome as well. Yes please do Dior and YSL. Maybe Chantecaille if you can. Great video. I Love your channel and style. Best! M

    This was a fun video to watch. I pretty much agree with all of your rankings. Specially with rare beauty. I work in a Kohls Sephora and 99% of our customers come in because of tik tok right now and that's no exaggeration. Super annoying because we run out of products so quickly. I can tell when they run right to section that we are out of. I wish people could just come in and try brands for themselves. Keep up the great content. 💃

    So fun! Totally agree with most of your categories, except maybe for Gucci, along with their amazing bronzers and blushes and lipsticks, I also love their powder eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, and just haven’t tried their other products yet. But so far I’ve really loved everything. Haha, so true about Smashbox! I only own one product from Smashbox but it is totally a holy grail….I’ve repurchased it four times - the Cali Contour palette. If I’m going away for a weekend or longer, it’s all I need to do my face & even quick easy eyeshadow. The contour in that palette is perfect too, I use this palette almost daily, highly recommend! Otherwise ya, this brand is a sleeper for me too :) Thanks for your thoughts, great idea!

    That's pretty fun and interesting, my favourites that I always buy from are Huda for lips, Natasha Denona for palettes, Nars for complexion including both liquid and powder products, Fenty for the blushes and highlighters. I also like ABH for a lot of things like brows, palettes and concealer. I agree that Rare beauty is overhyped.I only liked the tinted moisturiser, liquid blush and powder highlighter. I did not like any of the lip or eye products though, especially compared to my other favourites. I don't like using the super luxury stuff like Chanel, YSL, Gucci, Givenchy etc due to the crazy amount of fragrance they use. Minor brands like makeup by mario and kosas don't really sell much of stuff in the uk and are hard to get a hold of here

  • @nicolefretwell6109

    Really enjoyed this video @Sofia! I pretty much agree with all the rankings. I used to love UD back in the day (had all the Naked palettes!!) but then once I tried true luxury eyeshadows the game changed. Nowadays I am much more selective about the brands I buy - quality over quantity. At 48 I feel I’m not the target demographic for brands like rare beauty, fenty and I don’t consider them luxury to be honest. So, I’m not going to try them. Also, when brands are so slow to even launch in Australia or are really hard to get I lose interest and figure I won’t miss what I don’t try.
    I do have some CT products (LOVE the setting spray) but in general the colours are too warm and run brown/red on me so most of her products are a pass. Also the colours are NEVER anything like the photos on the website. Apart from CT my “hello lover” brands from this video are the same PLUS I have a few more brands I would include in that category too - as I’m sure you do too!! Really looking forward to the next instalment of this “series” 😊 So much fun!!!

    • @SofiaSeesBeauty
      @SofiaSeesBeauty  2 года назад +1

      Yes I know what you mean. I’m almost 32 and even I feel like I’m not the demographic for some of the popular brands 😅 that’s a good point about CT. She doesn’t have cool toned palettes and from what I’ve seen my subbies really love a sophisticated cool toned brown look

    I enjoyed this video and I agree with your rankings for the most part, except for Charlotte Tilbury (find most their shades too reddish brown). Most interesting to note that after Estee Lauder acquired Bobbi Brown, MAC, Smashbox, Too Faced; these brands just became boring and fell off the radar. Not a good sign for Tom Ford which Estee Lauder bought last November. In sum, I think the industry is just oversaturated with brands offering lackluster themes and products.

      Excellent point about the EL take over. All creativity seems to be thrown out the window. Makes no sense that EL tames them. They tend to do it to the perfumes they acquire too. Frederic Malle is a case in point.

    Needless to say, Chanel is my Ride Or Die. Consistently good, solid products and always so elegant.
    Tickles My Fancy Big Time is Burberry. The eye palette released recently is superb. The fact Isamaya Ffrench is/was creative director has me very interested in trying more.
    15 min of Warhol Fame goes to Bobbi Brown. Was good, probably is still good, however, the era is over.
    Dark Horse Without Enough Recognition has to be an Aussie brand called Eye of Horus. Everything I've tried has been solid. Nothing ground breaking, but excellent quality, reasonably priced and reliable. The velvet lipsticks are beautiful to wear and the brown Goddess mascara is flawless.
    I'd love to hear your take on Sisley, Hermés, Dior, Isamaya (I think we all know where that sits! 😬) and Estee Lauder.
    Guerlain's makeup is lovely. If it were easier to buy in Australia, I'd surely have it beside my beloved Chanel.

    Wow, you hit these brands spot on with your categories and the whys. I never ever got into Mac because it was intimidating, so I stuck to to her brands. The only things I use and have used for years is their Mac lipglass in spite and their fix plus. I think brands like Mac, Bobbi Brown, etc that fall under Estée Lauder are being kept afloat because they are under that global umbrella. Awww Nars. I am so bored with their orgasm line, it’s a bit of overkill. I agree that although CT is beating the pillow talk vibe to death, overall her brand is one of my favorites. Fenty, Mario, and Rare Beauty are all overhyped. They are all just average and nothing special. I have truly forgotten about ABH since the insertion of her daughter into the mix and her vision seems to overshadow what we all loved about Anastasia. Now if she released their Mario palette/Kim K collab, I’d rush to buy it. 😂
    Sadly, UD hasn’t been able to launch products that are intriguing. When I first discovered UD, it was edgy and cool, which fit perfect with my vibe in my 20s. Like us all, they grew up and now instead of Urban Decay they are more like Suburban Rot😂 They have become insignificant, which is sad. Now of all the newer brands, Danessa Myricks is the Queen! She is innovative and her products are long lasting and high quality. I’m excited with everything she releases.
    Brands like Lancôme, Clinique, Estée Lauder, Mac, Bobbi Brown are brands once popular in department stores long before we had Sephora in our malls. They led the makeup industry due to the customers they catered to and those same customers still probably buy their products.
    I’ve been a lifelong Tartelette. I started following the brand after 09/11, which coincided with me graduating from college and getting my first job. One of the many tragedies out of 09/11 was a focus story on the owner of Tarte who lost her husband that day and she had started Tarte out of their home and was considering shutting it down. Instead she persevered and kept it going, which pulled at my heart strings and I started buying her products. Yes they release a ton of products but they have some staples I stick by even after 20 years. It’s like breaking up with a childhood best friend. They haven’t done anything wrong but you’ve grown apart YET a when you’re in town, you visit and it is soul nourishing to reconnect. That’s Tarte and me😂
    Oh I’ve used Chanel for the same time I’ve used UD and Tarte and how I love the brand.
    Great video!!! ❤

    tried sydney grace for the first time this year and i will stick to my high end brands. their shimmers are ok, but their mattes are not, especially knowing what mattes from pat mcgrath, natasha denona, dior, tom ford, and chanel are like. i feel you can tell whether a brand is high end/luxury or not from their mattes.
    but sydney grace is good for something more affordable - definitely better than colourpop. (sorry colourpop - like sofia i gave away my stone cold fox palette which i was so excited for but ended up being disappointed with the quality, especially the mattes.)

    I think Colourpop is fun and they have a wide range of products. I was 😮 I’m your last video when you bashed the heart blushes and highlights. The packaging is really good quality on those and I love hearts all year round. Sometimes luxury brands don’t seem as fun to me.

    Here’s where Urban Decay got me: their Naked Palettes 1, 2 (the best), and 3 (never bought it but very pretty!). Here us where they lost me: they stopped making ‘naked’ palettes that were actually naked and started making naked palettes that had nothing to do with nude colors but were just being called naked-naked cherry, western, heat, none of these are what I think of naked. I hope they keep trying and become an it brand again. I still love their eyeliners

      Ouch nars & fenty 😂 and I’m so here for the the urban decay shade . I agree with Mac , smashbox and Bobbi brown. I noticed that smashbox counters have disappeared from smaller boots here in England. My unpopular opinion is tarte is a no from me dawg but I’m much darker then you so my experience with tarte is bad

    And what about Dior? Dior is my favorite makeup brand among ALL! Guerlain - beautiful packaging! The products themselves are not always TOP (their lipsticks are always so dry on the lips :( . Chanel - I actually love their nail polishes the most: beautiful colors! The brand to which I trust my skin is Shiseido. To me Shiseido is a brand which is underestimated. Their lip glosses are a dream! And the packaging is so simple, one can easily overlook them.

      Shiseido was the brand to end all brands when Serge Luten was creative director. The packaging was super lux, almost avant garde, yet incredibly user friendly and elegant. The products were beautifully coherent, divine to wear and the SAs were always, without fail, the most helpful, well trained and pushed comfort zones. I really miss the glory days of Shiseido. It really was the best makeup brand. Sigh...

      @@kateaye3506 I think the formulas are still good, especially the skin care products. The make up products seem very often not attractive to me, not only the packaging which is too simple for the price, but especially the colors: the colors look very weird, I don’t want to wear them at all LOL

    I use mostly fude, but heard good things about the Smashbox Buildable Cheek brush, so I got that and the Sheer Powder brush for 50% off during Black Friday. While the brushes are great, I find their makeup underwhelming.
